Cornell playing HS-school sloppy lax, horrible turnovers, but Virginia isn't very crisp either, 2-1 Virginia lead on two Pannell (James) goal at end of Q1. Nice goaltending by Cornell {edit add: freshman Christian Knight).

4-2 Virgina midway in the second. Cornell has 13 turnovers. Color man Tom LaFalce worries that Cornell may wear itself out. Cornell cuts from 5-2 to 5-4 with 2:25 to play -- 2 goals in 5 seconds after Virginia scores. If pipes count as half goals, Cornell would be up 7-5. Buczek ties it at 5 with :30 to play in half. Donovan's second with :16 to play completes 4-goal run, makes it 6-5 Cornell. Halftime.

Who'd have thought?

Cornell runs off 5 more in the third, 9 total since the first half, then Virginia gets 1 late. Cornell 10-6. We rolled up the goals Virginia like this in 2009 and they couldn't come back. That was in the 2009 NCAA semis when we in the title game when we got a decent lead on Syr -- I can't go on, the memories are still so horrible.

Cornell survives a 3:00 no-release penalty, holds on to win 12-9. Amazing. If we're 15th, Virginia is 2nd, this has to move both teams up. Michigan must feel pretty good about the OT loss to Cornell last week in a relative sense.

Box score: http://www.cornellbigred.com/documents/2014/3/8/VirginiaBox_030814.pdf?id=5940
Lintner 3G (season: 18)
Buczek 3G
Donovan 2G - 3A
Christian Knight 15 saves for Cornell

We had slightly more shots and ground balls, faceoffs were even, neither was deadly on EMO (Virginia 1x4 and failed on a 3:00 non-release foul in the fourth, Cornell 2x7). This was interesting:
Turnovers
VIR  8 3 3 3 -- 17
COR 11 2 2 5 20

... that and our going 6x10 on first quarter clears (15x21 the entire game). That helped Virginia get that early first quarter lead and outscore us 3-1 in the fourth. It looked as if we throwing the game away at first, but both teams had 9 TOs each the final 3 quarters.

Virginia's pressure has something to do with the TO's, but a lot have been unforced.

Freshman GK Knight has been excellent for the Red.

It's the direct feed from the stadium scoreboard.

Looks like they gave the crowd Waldo toques as a gift.

1:42 remaining, looks like 12-8 (but scoreboard is nearly unreadable)

Larger margin of victory than last year, too.  FWIW.

I thought I had a bad new HDMI cable. But no, I switched cables and found that some segments it was HD-sharp and others it was like the very first color monitor (320 pixels across). If you had it, too, might it be something to do with Cornell's end of things. I also saw shooting flames on the Goal! graphic but I think that was intentional. Lord help us.

Yep.  And FWIW, I think this UVA team is better than last year's team.

Knight was fantastic.

That's one beautiful stat.

50% on FOs and +50% on ground balls is also pretty darn good.
