Cornell lawyers stopped the candy throwing. Jan/2005

Robb

Well, the polls will be interesting tomorrow.  The machinations of all the results jumped us from tied for 10 to #6 in the PWR (and with Union and Ferris each having just one more comparison win than we have).  I somehow doubt the pollsters will be quite as impressed by our two 1-goal wins (one in OT) over Yale and Brown. Yet, we are getting to the point in the season when the pollsters seem to keep an eye on the PWR , too...  I'm guessing we'll come in around #8 in the polls and only move up to #6 if we can hang there for another week.
Let's Go RED!

No losses in the new year (4-0-2) and ~9 games unbeaten. No January swoon this time around. Even if it's not true that we have a terrible January every year in the past, it has seemed that way.

Didn't we address this last year?  No matter how much you keep repeating it, we don't have any kind of a tendency toward January swoons.

We're 9th in USCHO, back in the top ten for the first time since November 5, 2012 (who remembered we were actually 4th at any time last year?)

Don't change anything but whenever I see the cut-off at 16 teams with an AQ falling way below the line, I always think "why isn't the cut-off at 15?"

And of course 15, 14, etc. will not make it if dark horses win the major conference tourneys.

I read through Adam's "Bracket ABC's" article and am still trying to calibrate myself to thinking in terms of the new selection criteria. Now that it's apparent that RPI is clearly the most significant influencing factor in determining comparisons, I'll pose the usual question about using KRACH. It feels like this is the closest we've ever been to making that switch now that the PWR comparisons have been so simplified.  Adam points out the very minor differences around the bubble between PWR and RPI rankings.

And since they want to give a road-win bonus, we can even use KASA (KRACH Adjusted for Site Advantage).

Don't change anything but whenever I see the cut-off at 16 teams with an AQ falling way below the line, I always think "why isn't the cut-off at 15?"

You're correct, the #16 team is not going to make it.
And of course 15, 14, etc. will not make it if dark horses win the major conference tourneys.
Sure, but that is more speculative. As it stands, no matter who wins the Atlantic, they bump Notre Dame.

Of course.  Just saying there's no real magic number until it's all done, so truncating will always give somewhat of a false sense (not to mention that listing the next 4 or so teams gives an idea of who is a threat to overtake teams on the bubble).

None of this matters, since the links list everybody.

Quote from: RichHI read through Adam's "Bracket ABC's" article and am still trying to calibrate myself to thinking in terms of the new selection criteria.

Who makes the determination?  Natural cynicism would suggest the NC$$ isn't up to the task of comparing metrics on rational grounds, but it does seem like there's been somebody with at least a couple functioning brain cells nudging them slowly towards reason.

Agreed, I'm just saying they usually draw a line under 16, denoting the "cut", when the true cut is - at best - 15. That's why I made clear that I wasn't expecting Jim to do anything different, because I'm being exactly the kind of person that I usually roll my eyes at.
