As someone who pretends to have Dutch heritage, I am offended by Union's use of "Dutchmen" as their team name. I demand that they follow Hofstra's lead (they switched from the Flying Dutchmen to the Pride) and change their name to one of the seven deadly sins. I think Envy would work well for Union, seeing as how they are likely envious of the historical success of other ECAC teams.

As someone who pretends to have Dutch heritage, I am offended by Union's use of "Dutchmen" as their team name. I demand that they follow Hofstra's lead (they switched from the Flying Dutchmen to the Pride) and change their name to one of the seven deadly sins. I think Envy would work well for Union, seeing as how they are likely envious of the historical success of other ECAC teams.

Since there are several groups that lay claim to the term "Dutch," I resent the fact that you have appointed yourself and your group spokesperson for all of them, and I will note that the following groups fully support Union College's use of the name "Dutchmen" for their athletics programs:

The Pennsylvania Dutch
Dutch Oven Manufacturers Association
Dutch Boy Paint Co.
The town of Dutch Harbor, Alaska
Ed O'Neill, star of the 1991 film "Dutch"
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Library

Union will therefore continue to use this nickname until there is unanimity on the issue.

I would like to point out that the Pennsylvania Dutch are actually of German descent and Ronald Reagan was of English, Irish, and Scottish descent. Since they only pretend to be Dutch and are not actually Dutch, they have no credibility on this issue. (Please ignore the inconvenient fact that I have already admitted to not actually being Dutch either).

Although the local "Dutchies" here in PA say "If you ain't Dutch, you ain't much" I'd have to say that they tend to be backwards farmers.
