Matt Buckles is headed to Cornell in 2013, according to the Big Red Puckhead.

Buckles is a highly regarded '95 from the Toronto area.

Also, Cornell got a commitment from Gavin Stoick, 6'3", 215lb USNTDP defenseman from Oregon. He was recruited by BU, Michigan, Yale, Harvard and Cornell.

Nice.  Always great to add a forward who can score, and it's doubtful that any team will have a deeper and more talented roster of defensemen than what Schafer is compiling.

Can't wait to watch these guys wearing a Cornell sweater!

Cool beans.  The last OR player to make an impact in the ECAC wasn't too shabby (Derek Gustafson).

Correct me if I'm wrong (on this list, do I really need to say that?), but I believe the last Cornell defenseman to move there from being a forward was named Lodboa. Not too shabby on this score either.

Harry Orr, Bruce Pattison, and Steve Giuliani were also moved from forward to defense by Ned...in addition to Lodboa.  All except Giuliani became first-team All-Americans.  Three of the four regular defensemen (played two defense pairings in those days, with an occasional respite) on the great 1968-9 team were converted forwards (Lodboa, Pattison, and Giuliani).  That team averaged 6.55 goals per game.

IIRC, Joakim Ryan was moved back from forward by his previous team.

OK you guys, I guess I'm going to have to quit working if I'm ever going to be able to post about Lodboa. Not fair.::cry::

But no, his stats weren't too shabby:

        GP       G       A      Pts     PIM
1969 29 16 21 37 40
1970 29 24 37 61 40

From TBRW, thanks.

The most recent player who converted from F to D is Kevin Marvin McLeod.

I don't think that this is correct.  Joakim played D in the USHL and he played D for the Devils in the Atlantic Youth Hockey League (Joakim Ryan - Atlantic Youth Stats/Bio).

I'm not aware that he ever played forward.

I'm sure you're right.  My rapidly-fading memory told me somebody in the current mix got moved back to the blueline, and Ryan seemed like the obvious one.
