I think he not-quite-as-awesome given name is Woodruff Hudson. I bet his attitude towards his English nickname is the opposite of Douglas Murray's.

Quote from: TrotskyAFAIK, Hudson will be the first black player in Cornell hockey history.

Warren Fields. One game during the 1983-84 season. Too lazy to look up which one.

Quote from: SnapperIs Rochester a hotbed for hockey?

I don't know if greater Rochester is a hockey hotbed, but Cole Bardreau is from Fairport, and Ryan Callahan, Rangers' captain, is from Hilton and Brian Gionta, Les Canadiens' captain (capitaine?), is from Greece, now better known as the home of cruel and crude teenage boys and a newly wealthy school bus monitor.

And Mark McCutcheon played up in the Rochester area after Brian took over the Rochester Redwings after leaving Ithaca.

Brian coached the Americans, the hockey team, not the Red Wings, the baseball team.

Other recent Cornell players from the Rochester area that I can recall off the top of my head are Jason Dailey '98 (Pittsford), and Larry Pierce '01 (Mendon)..

There are 4 AAA franchises for youth in the Upstate NY area that I'm aware of, the Syracuse Nationals, Buffalo Regals, Buffalo Saints and Rochester Alliance.  These teams aren't great, more middle of the pack for most birth years.  See AAA Hockey Rankings - 1999.

Even on a mediocre AAA team there can be some standouts.  I was at the NAPS tourney in Buffalo this past weekend and I saw two Upstate area kids who have a shot to be D1 players, Michael Peca's son (on one of the Buffalo teams) and a left defenseman named Farrance who I think plays for Syracuse.  There are probably more.

P.S.  I forgot the West Seneca Wings and Perinton Blades!! Make it 6 area teams.

I think there's a few more in the Buffalo area -- Wheatfield Blades, Amherst Knights & Hamburg Hawks, as well as the Monarchs and Jr. Americans in the Rochester area. When you get to the U16 group in Buffalo there are two more options -- the Jr. Sabres and the Red Raiders. In Rochester, Maksymum has an U18 team.

Each city also has a Jr. A & B option.

Well, there's a video I can't ever not watch.

I just wish that clip was a second or two longer so you could read Coach's lips when he says what I'm nearly certain is "What a f**king game!" Makes me chuckle when I see that.

USA Hockey has invited 40 top U.S. hockey players eligible for the 2013 NHL Draft to participate in the inaugural All-American Prospects game Sept. 29 in Buffalo.
