Is this lack of TV coverage::flipd::,  like moving the playoffs to Atlantic City, another fail by Commissioner Hagwell?

Quote from: ursusminorFWIW, RPI-TV will be streaming the games from Atlantic City http://board.uscho.com/showthread.php?99736-ECAC-Championship-Weekend&p=5385404&viewfull=1#post5385404.

Edit: The games won't be televised. :-(

That is good news, albeit a small consolation prize for the games not being televised.

First time in my recollection that the games won't be televised somewhere. Rather pathetic.

CBS college sports network, who had the games last year, is instead having 11 hours of "full court press", which I assume will be in/out looks of the NC$$ squeakball games.

Is RPI-TV just for RPI students or can anyone access it? How can they stream when presumably B2/America One has the PPV internet rights?
My understanding is that RPI-TV is producing the show, and B2/America One is distributing it.  Therefore, it is available to all - for B2's normal fee; presumably $9 per game or perhaps per day.

Exactly. The games will be available after the fact on RPI-TV's website. It is indeed sad that the games apparently won't be available on any TV channel.

While I think it's ridiculous that the games aren't on tv, I'd rather the games be offered on an internet stream* available to anyone with a connection than exclusively on some channel like ESPN75 that is only available in 3 markets in the country.

*- provided that stream is good quality, reliable and offered for a reasonable price.

I don't think it's unreasonable to have both though.  (I'm not saying you disagree with me, I just think the point needs to be repeated.)  Both have their advantages; streaming can be done regardless of location and cable providers availble; cable has the advantage of not being at the mercy of lag and streaming quality.  And it's not like we want it on ESPN or anything, just some podunk regional channel that some bar nearby with a good package has a chance of getting.

But to not have both, frankly, is another thing that is turning the ECAC into an also-ran.  It's a piss poor performance by those in charge of the conference.

I agree and sent an email to Steve Hagwell indicating how this "sucks", especially to those who can't make it to "centrally isolated" Atlantic City. Maybe if he got a few more emails from other pissed off people who thinks the lack of TV coverage makes the ECAC seem like a lower tier hockey conference won't make me seem like such a crazy person.

Likewise anyone in the country with a reasonable satellite package.  That was what bugged me about the years where TWCS televised it; if you didn't happen to live in the right Time Warner market, you had no way to watch the game.

Maybe they're related.  No TV as an attempt to boost attendance?  1950's thinking?

I doubt it... I think he just couldn't find anybody who wanted to carry it.  I guess in the largest sense that's his "fault" since it speaks to the attractiveness of his product, but at least in the immediate view that's not Shaggy, it's the market.

AC was thinking outside the box -- a noble effort, even if it fails.  And it was a check, which the ECAC probably can't afford to turn down right now.

If the conference gets desperate they could always go to best-of-three home site SF and F.  I mean, if they're actually losing money on the tournament...

I was thinking they might be related, but in the opposite direction: they're losing their shirts on the lack of attendance at the game, so they can't afford to pay to put the games on TV.

Could be. Is the ECACHL a completely separate entity from Mother ECAC (which is ginormous and may be flush)?

Johnny 5

O.K., but in case I missed it....is any internet feed carrying the games, or is it a complete shutout??

You did miss it.  As I posted 5 days ago, "B2/America One is distributing it. Therefore, it is available to all - for B2's normal fee; presumably $9 per game or perhaps per day."
