FWIW, RPI-TV will be streaming the games from Atlantic City http://board.uscho.com/showthread.php?99736-ECAC-Championship-Weekend&p=5385404&viewfull=1#post5385404.

Edit: The games won't be televised. :-(

That is good news, albeit a small consolation prize for the games not being televised.

First time in my recollection that the games won't be televised somewhere. Rather pathetic.

CBS college sports network, who had the games last year, is instead having 11 hours of "full court press", which I assume will be in/out looks of the NC$$ squeakball games.

Is RPI-TV just for RPI students or can anyone access it? How can they stream when presumably B2/America One has the PPV internet rights?

My understanding is that RPI-TV is producing the show, and B2/America One is distributing it.  Therefore, it is available to all - for B2's normal fee; presumably $9 per game or perhaps per day.

Exactly. The games will be available after the fact on RPI-TV's website. It is indeed sad that the games apparently won't be available on any TV channel.

upprdeck

too bad they didnt actually offer it as a PPV to the Sats or cable if they are actually going to produce a decent quality product. $9 to watch on the computer vs $15-20 to watch on my Sat box..

While I think it's ridiculous that the games aren't on tv, I'd rather the games be offered on an internet stream* available to anyone with a connection than exclusively on some channel like ESPN75 that is only available in 3 markets in the country.

*- provided that stream is good quality, reliable and offered for a reasonable price.

While it might have been the case 6 years ago, the channels that would be likely to carry the game aren't exactly niche players anymore.  CBS Sports Network is available in 98 million households; ~85% using Nielsen's estimate of 114 million U.S. TV households. ESPNU was in 72+ million households at the end of 2010.

Of course, the growing availability and popularity of these networks is probably part of the reason why they no longer need to broadcast the ECAC tournament.

My experiences with B2/America One this season (used it for some away Cornell games) have been a welcome relief from Redcast, including all the features you describe - though opinions will naturally vary on the $9 price.

It looks good next to the gas for a 700 mile round trip, admission to the arena, $8 beers, $100/night for a hotel room, and using up an extra vacation day.

All valid points but it's nevertheless frustrating when a game is carried on one of these networks and your cable company won't offer it in any tier or at any price and because the game is on the network, it's not available online.  (it may no longer be the case but when I lived one town over from ESPN headquarters Comcast would not let me pay any sum of money to get ESPNU to watch hockey and lacrosse).

The networks may be less niche but the sport still is and it remains an exercise in frustration to get a restaurant or bar to dedicate a screen for the one person who cares more about hockey than march madness. I shudder to think that the next step for the ECAC might be to move the conference tourney to WED/THUR or some such thing just to be on TV like minor conference basketball.
