Wow, no one posts. Oh I see, we lose to PU. When will we learn? I thought about adding a poll on the coach, but thought better of it.

Princeton is an awful team, and we couldn't even beat them.  I think you can guess my vote on your "thought-better-of" poll, Jim.

We went to the Princeton game and there were several positives: It was easy to park close to the stadium, Princeton seemed so desperate for fans (the 7100 claimed attendance seemed more like 2100), they didn't check our bags thoroughly and would have found a forbidden plastic bottle of Cornell-labeled water, the sun sort of broke through for a few minutes, and the Big Red Marching Band was head and shoulders above the Princeton band (whose uniforms did look appropriate on this one day of the year).

This was a hearbreaker on the field. It felt as if Cornell had a good chance to win and didn't. Our running game looked potent on the cutback plays by Randy Barbour but there wasn't much passing to complement. The defense looked pretty good and still gave up big plays. We missed a chip shot of a field goal. For those who care about Cornell football and haven't yet been grumbling about the fate of the team, Princeton seemed to be the tipping point.

Just wait til they close out the season with blow out losses to Columbia and @Penn.

Sad to say there aren't many positives about the football program right now -- we appear to be below even the usual mediocre that has characterized the team over the past many decades.

I don't know any of the players on the team, but it seems like this year the coaches have asked for a larger investment of their time and emotion.  They thought they needed to "change their culture" to win.  If these things are true, then I suspect they must feel especially lousy at 2-5 this year versus the 3-4 last year after 7 games.  If you listen to coach Knowles' interviews, he always says after losses that they don't allow for "finger pointing in the locker room," so if, say, the offensive coordinator really sucked, players couldn't criticize him.

"Changing their offense" might have been smarter.  Three touchdowns by the offense in four Ivy games.  Lucky to have the one Ivy win.

Would take a lot of selling, I would think, to get someone with his stats to come to a school where the offense scores a whopping four touchdowns in five league games, and where the primary passing play is to a receiver at the line of scrimmage who dives forward to gain two or three yards.  I would think Tim Murphy or Al Bagnoli or Phil Estes could win that recruiting battle with a thirty-second phone call.

Unless, of course, he has a thing for victory bells.

I think the clearest evidence we aren't going to get him is the sadness that seeps through the page when his coach talks about the lone offer from Cornell. Some other school is going to lose out on the QB that they wanted and will make a late offer to this kid and he will go to that school.

It comes across as desperation on the order of "well, the world needs ditch diggers too..."
