Re: Cornell-Yale Lacrosse - 5 years ago
Defense getting gassed-a potent offensive team with possessions is a formula for success. Faceoffs truly this team's kryptonite-couldn't believe Cornell ranked 72 out of 73 in D 1 on faceoffs.by rss77 - Other Sports

Would like to see us create a new thread for each game. The Cornell lacrosse thread is getting way too long.by rss77 - Other Sports

See that the FOGO Andrews had only one faceoff. Not sure whyby rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2019 - 5 years ago
Was impressed with Andrews at faceoff X. He is tough and fast. Albany was winning faceoffs with wing play. Cornell's wings just couldn't seem to come up with ground balls on a consistent basis.by rss77 - Other Sports

To get to playoffs Boeheim and others will have to start putting more points in the basket. They are playing good defense which has kept them in games. The rest of the season teams will do what Penn did which was sagging off other players and double teaming Morgan. Going forward I hope Earl can bring some point producers into the fold.by rss77 - Other Sports

The closeness of the games reflects the strength of the league in all 8 teams. The game tonight will turn on how well Julian can defend Miya Oni and at the same time stay out of foul trouble.by rss77 - Other Sports

Financial aid is pretty subjective. Would Getting's financial package been the same at the other Ivies given his sister's graduation-hard to say. On the resources that Gettings has been given at Arizona-much of that comes from the TV revenues the Power 5 schools get. It brings what Mike Shafer said at a sports luncheon:. Michigan State's traveling had 40 people wherein Cornell when it goes onby rss77 - Other Sports

Yale beat Syracuse in a scrimmage today 18-14. Yale lead 12-4 at half. All this info courtesy of Syracuse lax message boardby rss77 - Other Sports

Yes Great win but the Cornell Sun has no coverage of game.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Indoor Practice Facility - 5 years ago
Was told by an insider a couple of years ago that an indoor practice facility would facilitate playing February and early March lax games inside rather than brave the unpredictable Ithaca weather.by rss77 - Other Sports

Lack of height and nobody has picked up Getting 's point production. Does not bode well for Ivies.by rss77 - Other Sports

Guess I should watch I say-good showing for the Red. Morgan is a special athlete. Must say that Yale looks really good-beatinghe "U" down in Miami.by rss77 - Other Sports

Today is the annual trouncing. For all the kvetching on this board when Cornell played Delaware in football (Princeton. Dartmouth, and Colgate were all better than Delaware) this is a game I do not forward to. With an undersized team that I do not Project to make Ivy playoffs (maybe 6th place) it will be ugly in the Done.by rss77 - Other Sports

Supposedly the Ivy football title is the THING.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell football 2018 - 5 years ago
Not in favor of changing coaches-The team lost their running quarterback, Catanese, 4 games in. Chris Walker their best running back was our early on. Cornell has been a constant churn of coaches over the years.by rss77 - Other Sports

Looking at the lineup out there at times outside of Boeheim or Morgan who else can put points up? Prognosis even in league play looks pretty grim.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell football 2018 - 5 years ago
Look-The team is giving their best effort out there but if you look at the history of Cornell football since the formalization of the Ivy League the program has been at best mediocre with the exception of the Marinaro and Maxie Baughan years. Was kind of sad being at the game yesterday and watching the 1988 team being honored for their Ivy co-championship. 1990 was the last co-championship-30 yeaby rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Yale over Cornell 30-24 - 5 years ago
My observation Cornell's defensive scheme with a lot of blitzing leaves the corners and safeties on 1 on 1 coverages and vulnerable on the pass plays. Credit to Yale's o-line for picking up the blitzes.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell football 2018 - Delaware 27-10 - 5 years ago
That's why I couldn't understand all the hand wringing on this board about playing Delaware. I daresay Colgate is pretty much on the same level as the Hens.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2018 - 6 years ago
The Cornell job pays reasonably well. I think they wanted a change of venue. BTW lacrosse has a long history at Penn State-hardly a newish program. Glen Thiel was their head coach for years. Tambroni has not done badly but has not achieved down there what he did at Cornell. There is something to be said for tradition and competing against Maryland and Hopkins is like pushing a big rock up a hiby rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2018 - 6 years ago
2 things I would like rules makers to tweak:. 1. The faceoff-Would like to see it more of a scramble. As others have suggested setting the faceoff guys farther apart. Too much of possession rests on one player. 2. The timeout-In no other sport are timeouts used like they are in lacrosse. That sideline scramble where Albany called timeout-I did not see clear possession. Let the playersby rss77 - Other Sports

Back to the Colgate game: Colgate came in pretty banged up from their 1st 4 games playing without several starters and still beat CU. I don't care whether you are playing Colgate or Little Sisters of the Poor-games are not won when you keep losing the turnover battle as in the 1st 3 games. Watching from the start of the game Banks did not look crisp on his passes or handoffs. The offensiveby rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Sun's Glossary of Cornell Sports Terms - 6 years ago
Ithaca College had a varsity ice hockey team back in the 1960s and 1970s and played at Lynah Rink. They dropped the sport back sometime in mid-70s. I remember an acquaintance of mine at Cornell showing me the article in the Cornell Sun of IC's decision (He played on the ice hockey team at IC and transferred to Cornell for academic reasons as he did not play on CU's team). Rumor had that at oneby rss77 - Other Sports

Not sure what UConn sees in Onourah. He was not a good player at the Ivy League level and really did not evolve as a player during his time at Cornell. Wish him well thoughby rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Football 2016 - 6 years ago
From what I understand the Indoor Practice Facility was a priority under the late President Garrett. Her untimely death and Rawlings being a temporary President kind of put the brakes on the project. Hopefully now that a new President is in place it is an opportunity to resuscitate the projectby rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball (2016-17) - 7 years ago
I was frustrated by the poor defense in the UMass Lowell game. It goes back to the last couple of years since Shonn Miller graduated (Thank you Ivy League for your silly obsolete rules that punish players who get season ending injuries and force them to use their eligibility elsewhere)-that Cornell struggles to get stops on defense. It was a game where there was no height advantage for either tby rss77 - Other Sports

Losing Zach Mayes has truly hurt special teams. It is noted that long kickoff returns have occurred especially in the last two games since Mayes left school. Nick Nulle's foot not quite as strong. Would like to see a better mix of pass and run on offense.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Lax vs Syracuse, 2016 April 12 - 8 years ago
See Cornell hanging tough with SU but coming 5 or 6 goals shy. Cornell has not established a consistent interior offense Too many shots coming from outside and helping opposing goalie save %. Attribute the turnover issues in part to youth.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Lax @ UVA 03/12/16 - 8 years ago
One of the big positives I drew from the game was the rotation of the offensive midfield lines. It was good to see the 2nd offensive midfield line alternating with the first. Makes me hopeful for the season. One of the things that bothered me during the last 10 years was the tendency to play the first offensive line for it seemed like 9/10ths of the time on offense. Players have only so manyby rss77 - Other Sports
