Re: Cornell Football 2021 - 2 years ago
Same in lacrosse-they made a great hire when they lured the long time Notre Dame defensive coordinator Gerry Byrne to Cambridge.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Football 2021 - 2 years ago
Was expecting much more this season because of momentum of 2019 and the super seniors. The defense just can't get off the field (Allowing too many 3rd down conversions and a key 4th down) and a mistake-prone offense. Watched the Harvard Holy Cross highlights-Harvard looks scary good.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Football 2021 - 2 years ago
One looks back a bit and the only coaches who have sustained success were Maxie Baughan, Jack Musick, and some limited success with Jim Hofher. Baughan recruiting pretty but also go transfers from other programs like the late Tom McHale (Unfortunately a case study in advocating against football) and some others. I would think that by looking at the transfer portal Archer might be able to upgradeby rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2021 - 3 years ago
According to Very Rusty Red on the Fanlax forum there are 3 of last year's seniors besides Teat coming back. He raised the query does anyone know who they are? Anyone on the Elynah site know?by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell's men's basketball recruits - 3 years ago
Agreed-The issue is that teams the last few years have been able drive the ball inside. Without size it is tough to have good interior defense. I am sure Earl and staff have tried to address it recruiting-wise but without much success.by rss77 - Other Sports

Does Cornell save money by putting the interim tag on the position?by rss77 - Other Sports

Petro probably not coming back. Rumor was that his wife did not care too much for Ithaca when he took the Hopkins job.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2020 - 4 years ago
Starting to see a split in Ivy lacrosse. Shay at Yale isn't going anywhere and neither is Gerry Byrne at Harvard-two excellent coaches. Maybe upgrade Stevens to head coach to keep some consistency in program?by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2020 - 4 years ago
Advantage: 12.6 fte athletic scholarships, higher pay, tv appearances, and less restrictive conference rules. Disadvantage: A toxic fanbase with huge expectations All in All hoping Milliman does not leave. Cornell has great lacrosse tradition but a mediocre coach like Kerwickby rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Indoor Practice Facility - 4 years ago
As per Andy's announcement Darmouth's facility is only 75 yards long. Cornell's will contain a full football field and it will also be able to hold regular season men's and women's lacrosse games.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Men's basketball 2019-20 - 4 years ago
Pretty surprising win at Princeton. They bring back some pieces back year like McBride, Boeheim, Knapp, and Dickson and maybe can get to 10-12 wins at best. Earl will be in his 5th year-make or break?by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Men's basketball 2019-20 - 4 years ago
When Brian Earl was hired I was very hopeful that he could get Cornell back to a winning program. Inability to recruit strength up front up front has hampered their efforts. Continuing recent trends point production has come from Knapp and McBride at the guard position with inconsistent point production from the front line.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2020 - 4 years ago
Yes and No- Harvard was able to get Gerry Byrne, the former Notre Dame defensive coordinator-Other teams had been after him for years. Yale has been able to keep Andy Shay despite other schools coming after him (His contract was just renewed last year). Point is not every Ivy coach is not looking to ACC or Big Ten.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Men's Basketball 2020-21 - 4 years ago
Jeckle Hyde team-pretty decent at home and at times dreadful on the road. The young players show some promise. Size up front is still an issue.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Football 2019 - 20 at Dartmouth 17 - 4 years ago
Cornell-Columbia- One of the best efforts on both sides of the ball that I have seen from a Cornell football team in years. Cornell's offense was not cited for any penalties and the defense was very solid. Archer has gradually upgraded the level of talent so that athletically they were competitive. IMO Cornell was undone on several occasions due to mental mistakes this season-untimely intercby rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Football 2019 - Princeton @ Cornell - 4 years ago
It was 21-7 but the difference was in execution of plays. Teams like Princeton always seem to have better talent and they don't beat themselves with dumb decisions on offense. The defense on the other played to Max potential as they kept Cornell in the game-comps to Defensive Coordinator Jared Backus.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Football 2019 - 4 years ago
Despite the game Cornell falls short again. Cornell for years has what I would call "spotty" talent. Certainly some excellent players but not enough good talent across the board and it limits Cornell's efforts to win. Today in a number of cases we saw poor execution especially on the part of the offense. Good players make good plays and Cornell does not have enough.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Football 2019 - 4 years ago
His transfer might be related to financial aid. At Cornell I do not they extend financial aid beyond 4 years.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Ivy League lacrosse tournament [& NCAAs 2019] finals - 4 years ago
Credit Yale for coming up with the money to keep Shay at Yale and they are doing the same with basketball coach James Jones. Jones before the contract extension was rumored to be paid around $500,000.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Ivy League lacrosse tournament 5/3 5/5/19 - NCAA pairings - 4 years ago
Not surprised that CU did not make it in. Annoyed at Selection Committee for potential pairing of Yale and Penn in quarters though. Would argue that those two are playing as high a level as any team in the country.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell-Syracuse lacrosse game thread - 5 years ago
The rules committee has attempted to reduce the importance of a dominant FOGO over the years through rules adjustments. It hasn't worked out as a good FOGO can always make adjustments. To address Cornell's issues their wing play on faceoffs has been a weak point also.by rss77 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell-Syracuse lacrosse game thread - 5 years ago
Ironically John Desko the SU coach has been a long time proponent of getting rid of the faceoff.by rss77 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell-Penn lacrosse thread - 5 years ago
What Teat did at end was what Charles Barkley calls "hero ball". He's a great player but does not have "Pannell type strength" to back into defenders. Did not expect the defense to look this bad because only major loss was Pulver.by rss77 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell-Yale Lacrosse - 5 years ago
Defense getting gassed-a potent offensive team with possessions is a formula for success. Faceoffs truly this team's kryptonite-couldn't believe Cornell ranked 72 out of 73 in D 1 on faceoffs.by rss77 - Other Sports
