Re: Football: Cornell 28 Dartmouth 25 (4th quarter) - 17 years ago
scoop85Also, it sounds like there are more Dartmouth fans in the stands. Very sad. There probably was not 75 Dartmouth fans plus their band. The reason it sounded like that is because they were all in the west stands which is now the domain of the visitors. The Crescent actually had a very good turn-out of Cornell fans given that it was a very chilly day and the forecast was not good.by peterg - Other Sports

Re: New Lynah Photo Slideshow - 17 years ago
jtwcornell91Of course, I still sort of miss the days when we had one big penalty box with players from both teams in it and one poor off-ice offical to keep them separated. As the poor old off-ice official who was blessed to have that job for a long, long time, I can tell you that it was absolutely the best seat in the house. You really felt like you were all but in the game. I miss it, notwiby peterg - Hockey
Re: New Lynah Photo Slideshow - 17 years ago
David HardingIt is very reassuring to see ice! I hadn't grasped that the tunnel emptied into the Cornell bench. Does that means the visitors use the old locker rooms at the west end? If they haven't done anything to the old lockers yet, all the teams could keep using them until the new ones are ready. I'd wager that the premium/box seating shown in the first photo consists of two rows of chby peterg - Hockey
Re: New Lynah Photo Slideshow - 17 years ago
Walking through, I thought that the new walkways were considerably wider than the old ones. Plus they will not be partially blocked up by standees holding their places on the rail. It IS different inside. The biggest change in atmosphere I sensed was that you now enter the building AND must then separately enter the arena. You cannot see the ice as you walk around the building. Re: New Lynah Photo Slideshow - 17 years ago
upperdeckwhere does arthur and crew sit now? i see a bump above the scoreboard? and if so how do they connect with the penalty box crew to make sure the correct things happen? I believe the scorer's table will be moved to the north side of the rink. The old visitor's bench will remain as it was. The p-box and scorer's area will be over near the red line, north side.by peterg - Hockey

TrotskyIt's also nice to see that the ridiculous plastic butt-printed seats in C have been taken up. I'm very hopeful that this allows more seats per row in that section, which in turn will mean Anne's and my seats will still exist to the left of the vomitorium. Otherwise, we've hovering in mid-air. The red plastic "seats" are, I believe, still there. I don't know if the plan isby peterg - Hockey
Re: New Lynah Photo Slideshow - 17 years ago
billhowardThat can't be the final mesh that covers the west end gallery. I'm sure the photgrapher snapped the picture just as a workman passed in front of the camera carrying wire mesh reinforcing material for one of the concrete pours. No, that is the mesh that is up all along the west end walkway. It is VERY distracting to look at the ice through it. Maybe it will disappear when watching aby peterg - Hockey
Re: Lynah Rink Renovation Blog - today's Sun - 17 years ago
Traffic will be cut off at the top of A-E. The old outside wall is now the inside wall of a closed corridor outside the rink. Where the old walkway was at the top of the stands is now seating. Standing students will have no problem seeing the entire ice. Where you used to be able to walk around the rink and see the ice surface, you will now exit the arena on both sides into hallways that dby peterg - Hockey

Re: Season Ticket Term Limits - 18 years ago
Liz '05Peter, if I lived in/near Ithaca, or even in CT, I'd be finding tickets to Lynah all the time, but I won't be living anywhere near enough to Ithaca to make it to Lynah regularly while I'm in the Navy (hence the reference to a dozen-ish years). Sadly. Ah, I thought it was the list that was the issue. It's the distance...and that you're likely to be pretty darned busy elsewhere. At leasby peterg - Hockey
Re: Season Ticket Term Limits - 18 years ago
Liz '05I think what I'm taking away from this thread is that even though I won't be able to go to games at Lynah regularly for, oh, the next dozen years or so, at least, I should put my name on the list now. You may not be able to get season tickets for a long time, but you can expect to go to games "regularly." There are always tickets available.by peterg - Hockey
Lacrosse vs Brown - Sea of Red - 18 years ago
Just a quick note to those of you who will be in attendance this Saturday for the Men's lacrosse game against Brown. For the third year in a row, lacrosse alumni have taken the initiative to create a "sea of red" in the stands with special Cornell lacrosse t-shirts to be available at the game. As Coach Tambroni has said "Any one who has attended one of our past two Quarter finalby peterg - Other Sports
Re: Lax 4 @ Princeton 3 - postgame - 18 years ago
DeltaOne81billhowardPrinceton's goalie-out defense was pretty good the last two minutes when Cornell was on attack. And Cornell showed class with an open net in the last 10 seconds and just kept passing around the box rather than roll up the score to 5-3. While it may have been class in part, its also good strategy. The shot could always freakishly go wide or slip out of your stick and go to tby peterg - Other Sports

Re: USA Hockey National Championships - 18 years ago
You know I hesitate to comment on where the Canadian programs go. I've always had a hard time sorting out what is what with the Canadian programs. The USA Hockey "rankings" seem right. Note that in youth hockey there are Tier I, Tier II, A, AA, AAA B, C programs (and probably a few other letters other than X that I can't think of at this point). As I mentioned, though, the youthby peterg - Other Sports
Re: USA Hockey National Championships - 18 years ago
RitaIIRC the "tier I" and "tier II" distinguishes betweeen different levels of competition, with tier I being at a higher level. I couldn't find on the website the criteria for being classified as tier I v. tier II. I had some involvement over the years with the New York State Amateur Hockey Association and more recently USA Hockey insofar as the youth programs go. These daby peterg - Other Sports

Re: Cornell at Duke lacrosse - quality of radio broadcast - 18 years ago
billhowardThe announcers -- Barry Leonard, Howie Borkin -- seemed breathless at times, they were dropping notes and forgetting their places, they didn't get the time on all the goals (guess they couldn't see the scoreboard and the weather was raw), the line quality was mediocre, the engineer working the pots back in Ithaca was slow on the uptake ... but it was still great to be able to listenby peterg - Other Sports
Re: Cornell at Duke lacrosse - 18 years ago
I believe there is radio coverage in Ithaca. I believe that Barry Leonard and Howie Borkan are working the game. If that's wrong, it's a change from what I heard after the Army game.by peterg - Other Sports

Re: Army @ MLax - 18 years ago
RichH8-1. Apparently, Army's Walker isn't playing. Walker played the first quarter and left the game limping. He was on the sidelines throughout and was noticeably limping after the game. Face-offs ended 10-7 in favor of CU. Tommy Schmicker is improving with experience. I believe he took all the face offs but the last which was the first appearance of freshman Pat Kirwan who has been outby peterg - Other Sports
Re: M Lax @ ND (in Chicago) - 18 years ago
Freshman Pat Kirwan should help when he gets healthy - plus remember that we have freshmen taking the f/o and, I believe, they are just getting used to the NCAA rules. My understanding is that, incredibly, when the NCAA changed, high schools did not.by peterg - Other Sports

Pete GodenschwagerTrotskyGreat. According to the CU announcer, Davenport and Seminoff are both playing through the flu. I'm actually surprised the players don't get flu shots. It would make sense. All CU athletes are offered flu shots in the fall.by peterg - Hockey
