Re: WSJ Article 1/27/2010 - 14 years ago
RichH Kornheiser just hyped HU-CU on PTI as the most intriguing CBB game this weekend, and then started the whole "if Cornell doesn't get the auto-bid, they should go at-large" train moving. Wilbon picked his Northwestern game, continuing the proud homer tradition that PTI has. Hey, when you are a Cornellian or an Northwestern grad you take every opportunity to hype your alma mater wby peterg - Other Sports

Re: Lacrosse Recruiting at Cornell - 14 years ago
I was told (double hearsay) AJ had 5 saves in each half. Gabe Mendola, a junior and future Harvard enrollee, apparently won every face-off against a very good WG face-off man.by peterg - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse Recruiting at Cornell - 14 years ago
A note on one of CU's recruits, this evening Ithaca High School, with future Cornellian AJ Fiore in goal, defeated West Genesee HS 6-2 in a NYS Tournament Quarter-final game. Great win for IHS after years of frustration in the state tournament having to face WG.by peterg - Other Sports

Re: NC$$ games Saturday 3/28/09 - 15 years ago
CowbellGuySeriously, can we get back to the issue of the puck magically passing through the net, at an angle without any significant loss in energy? It didn't slow down at all after, as you all claim, it passed through the net. I still maintain that there's no way a puck at any speed could deform the netting (or the puck) enough to pass through without putting a hole in it, or dissipating enoughby peterg - Hockey
Re: ECAC SF#2: Cornell 4 Princeton 3 - Postgame Thread - 15 years ago
GermThis has to be one of our biggest comebacks in the ECAC tourney doesn't it? The only game bigger that I can remember was our comeback against Harvard in '03. I think it was '03. One of the biggest, yes, but for the biggest, though it was a "different" ECAC, I still have to go with Providence.by peterg - Hockey
Re: CU @ Duke lax - 15 years ago
There are benefits, other than just an SOS boost, from these mid-week games far from Ithaca during spring break. It's an opportunity to take the team on the road to a good weather site, getting a LOT of outdoor practice time, getting a big time game in, AND doing some team building during the trips down and back and when they're all together without other distractions. Add that it usually happeby peterg - Other Sports

Cornell and Johns Hopkins scimmaged in Baltimore today, ending up, to the extent it's meaningful, in a 9-9 tie. Some notes for both teams are at this link - Cornell-Hopkinsby peterg - Other Sports
Re: Ivy grants Glynn another year of eligibility - 15 years ago
The Ithaca Journal reported in early April that AJ Fiore, a HS All-American (I believe) from Ithaca High School, who started as the CNY Empire goalie (a very BIG deal in lacrosse recruiting) as a sophomore, has committed to Cornell for the fall of 2009. Supposedly, he turned down the rest of the Ivy's and Hopkins, among others, to commit to CU. Of course, there's that pesky admissions process..by peterg - Other Sports
Hobart Lacrosse to drop to Division III - 16 years ago
According to posts on Laxpower, Hobart's Board of Trustees has made the decision to have the lacrosse program drop to D-III. Among other results, of course, that will end the oldest rivalry in college lacrosse (Cornell - Hobart) and end the competition between Syracuse and Hobart for the Crouse-Simmons trophy. Re: Lax 2008 - 16 years ago
Multiple games is typical of fall ball events. Two years ago CU played Hobart and Hofstra at Hofstra. Last year I think it was three abreviated games (LeMoyne, Hobart and Syracuse) at the Greaat Pumpkin Stick-Out in Syracuse. It's exhibition season and with 40+ players the coaches want as much game action as they can get and pack it in on those fall "tourney" days. The fall "seby peterg - Other Sports
Re: Football: Battle of the 'nells - 16 years ago
Kite Hill was "sold out" for tailgating passes well before game time - at least I was told it was sold out when I got there about an hour before kickoff. The Kite Hill scene was as good as I have seen it in years (leaving aside the wonderful crowds for lacrosse last spring), with parties all over the lot. Re: Lax 2008 - 16 years ago
I'm not sure if it is still the case, but the NCAA changed the face-off rules for colleges three seasons ago (if I am remembering right), but high school rules were not changed at the same time. Hot-shot high school face-off men have not been using the same rules as the college boys, so not only is there all that a freshman has to deal with playing against opponents 3, 4, or in the case of pby peterg - Other Sports
