Re: Harvard @ Cornell Saturday - 6 weeks ago
adamw ACM adamw Just going to chime in with my usual old man two cents - but I agree with just about everything written here - especially Trotsky's request to bring back the striptease. What a loss. And when did the post-quarters flood the ice tradition end? Covid? That's a massive shame. When the high glass was installed, making it impossible to go on the ice by climbing over the glass. Trotsky Jeff Hopkins '82 I remember "Go start the bus", too. Unless we played Army ("Go start the tank" or Sucks ("Go staht the cahr". I think the whole "Hey goalie...your _____ Called" is uninteresting. Nobody can hear anything but You suck". I despise the tubas "Over There". Manly because the cheers don't fit the rhythm. Re: Harvard @ Cornell Saturday - 6 weeks ago
sah67 BearLover But the question still remains—what’s wrong with Gary Glitter? The students have been dropping F-bombs during that song for 20 years. And the ushers have been tossing some of them out for that to “make an example” off and on over the last 20 years (although they do seem to have chilled out on the ejections during the last few years). Maybe it was an Andy Noel thing, and the neby BearLover - Hockey

sah67 BearLover They’ve also been chanting “Fuck you, Harvard!” for a long time now. What changed Friday night? It definitely wasn’t a “thing” 20 years ago when I was in the student section, and in my last 12 years of being a season-ticket holder on the townie side, I’ve only heard it become noticeable during the “COVID era.” Fair enough. It’s been going on for a few years at least, though.by BearLover - Hockey

Chris '03 andyw2100 Dunc What the fuck. They kicked me out cuz for starting Garry glitter due to “swears”.. in my last Cornell hockey game… I’m literally crying….- That's ridiculous! I'm guessing the band didn't play it because they somehow thought Schafer didn't want them to? I really don't think that was his intention. Iceberg I don't think chimpfood's post is totally without merit, although I won't comment on whether the drug story is true or not. I meant to post about this at some point and the mention of Howe jogged my memory. Within the past year, I met a recent alumnus who was on one of the other athletic teams on campus and was somewhat close with enough of the guys on the hockey team in the 2021-22 seby BearLover - Hockey

scoop85 chimpfood I heard that some guys were kicked off for doing coke at a party, tupker transferred after his junior year, hence Zach being here alone for a season. Hey Chimbrain, enough with your uninformed nonsense. Ever hear of defamation of character? Probably 10-20% of Cornell students, and 75+% of members of certain frats/sororities, “do coke at a party” at some point. Also, a number oby BearLover - Hockey

adamw It's not impossible, or else Cornell wouldn't show up here with >0% odds whatever you think of the methodology for picking winners for each game - it proves it's possible to happen. Yup—thanks. It probably involves UMD and Cornell both losing in their conference finals, at a minimum. I’m not sure how else Cornell gains enough RPI to overtake that many teams.by BearLover - Hockey

If Cornell had hung on vs Clarkson (or if Schafer had challenged the hand pass) or beaten Union, we’d have a good shot at an at-large bid. As it stands, we have almost no shot. To have a realistic shot at an at-large bid, we needed tonight to go extremely well. I didn’t. Sickness or no sickness, things just…fell apart at the end. At this point, I’m resigned to the likely reality we need to win thby BearLover - Hockey
Re: New athletic director Nicki Moore - 7 weeks ago
billhoward Chris '03 Nothing did more to make Moore look good than two decades of Andy Noel. Unfounded and uncalled for. Presumes that Cornell sports suffered more under the previous AD than in years previous. Basketball got to the Sweet Sixteen under Noel, lacrosse has been to multiple final fours, women's ane men's hockey are thriving, wrestling is perennial top ten, soccer is doing well. Re: Cornell v Union - 7 weeks ago
upprdeck IF cornell only wins Union or Clarkson the PWR doesn't change much. Winning both would jump them to 12th The point is that Cornell would be the *favorite* to receive an at-large bid by the end of the season, not that they would receive one if the season ended today. Most of the teams ahead of them will likely lose one or more times before the end of their conference tournaments.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Cornell v Union - 7 weeks ago
If Schafer challenges the Clarkson tying goal for a hand pass and it gets overturned, we’d be favorites for an at-large bid. Or if we beat Union, of course.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Cornell v Union - 8 weeks ago
scoop85 blackwidow Goodbye ncaa Holy crap—you realize if we win the ECACs we’ll get a bid, right? I know it sucks right now but we have a team good enough to win the league. It is true that we can still get into the NCAAs if we win the ECAC, yes. It is also true that Colgate, Dartmouth, and the rest of our league can do the same. Cornell is not special in this regard. Re: Cornell @ Clarkson, 2/23 - 2 months ago
upprdeck it all matters but if we had won the game in Reg we would still be in 16th though closer to 15. the same for Sat nights game. Win both nights though we would be in 11th The goal is to get an at-large bid by the end of the season. Thus, the difference in RPI for winning/losing is what matters, not whether we are 15 or 16 in a particular weekend before the end of the season. For examplby BearLover - Hockey
