Discussions about sports other than hockey
Re: ECAC 2024 Discussion Thread - 2 months ago
chimpfood Nothing against sever or student athletes in general, I know how hard it is to balance sports and school, but it’s kinda funny that a 3.5 gpa wins scholar athlete of the year for the whole league. 3.5 in Engineering is like a 3.8 in another school though I think.by BearLover - Hockey

upprdeck This weeks games to help us. ND splitting with Mich would be nice trying to keep umass and NH behind us so maybe a split there St Cloud/WMU. ST cloud jumps them ahead of us but puts WMU behind us. A split moves ST cloud down. A WMU sweep knocks them back a good chunk CC/Omaha CC winning or splitting doesnt do much for us, IMAH sweeping knocks CC back and moves up a small amby BearLover - Hockey

Dafatone arugula with the players on the Pens pp, how is that even possible? Cornell's PP is too passive and too content to shuffle the puck around the umbrella, but I don't fault them for not shooting enough. Firing a shot into a defender's shins from the point is bad. We need to have more motion away from the puck and work the puck down low to generate chances, and for the love of god do somethby BearLover - Hockey

Swampy sah67 Jacob MacDonald was profiled by a San Jose fan site as a model for the future of "position-less hockey" due to his versatility in shifting back and forth between forward and defenseman, even during a single game. Lots of good quotes from his coach (David Quinn) on that role as well: The subsequent waiving of JMD aside, it seems to me that, against Yale and Brown, Robinsby BearLover - Hockey

arugula BC 5 Massachusetts 4 late third. Great game. Jack Malone playing on both PP and PK and getting a lot of playing time in general. Plus I think I saw an “A” on his jersey. Frankly, it feels extra unfair that a fifth year senior from Cornell goes to play for BC. Watching this game, BC looks like the most talented team in the country. I’m sure Malone would have played his fifth year at Cornelby BearLover - Hockey

arugula Cc won and we go up. I don’t get it. Don’t pay too much attention to our exact rank. Instead, look at how many teams are bunched around us in RPI (which basically determines PWR). What’s important here is that another team that prior to this weekend was far behind us in the PWR (CC) has now jumped ahead of us. Going into this weekend, it looked like there were 6 teams fighting for ~2-4 aby BearLover - Hockey

marty BearLover CC has tied NoDak 2-2 through two periods despite being badly outshot. Time to !!!!PANIC!!!! Not sure if I'll panic but if I do I'll PANIC!!. Using six extra exclamation points is inexcusable and I'm considering the same punishment that you meted out in Grady last night. CC up 5-2 now. That warrants eight exclamation point, at minimum. Actually, though, this is pretty bad. We aby BearLover - Hockey

Dafatone chimpfood Mixed emotions. Love to see them win the Ivy championship but that really hurts our chance at the tourney. It's fine. We didn't drop that far in RPI. We're just in a tight pack of teams. If we keep playing well, we will have a good shot. We didn’t drop far, but things are so tight that marginal changes aren’t so marginal anymore. Cornell held Yale to 12 shots in regulatioby BearLover - Hockey

ER That seems to be all anyone cares about. We haven’t lost a game since December 2. What other team can say that? Can we just enjoy the ride and not worry so much about all that other crap, seeing as we are fans and have zero control over anything? Cornell has been great this year and I’m proud of them. Mostly just frustrating to not see that get rewarded in the Pairwise.by BearLover - Hockey

Big Dingus What a terrible game. Can’t believe I flew up from NOLA for this You complain too much.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Yale at Cornell, 2/17 - 3 months ago
Dafatone One of my more inane opinions is that the end of the game should extend by the length of the ongoing power play if it's tied or if the team up a man is down one. That’s not inane. It’s only fair. A penalty committed with 10 seconds remaining is basically not penalized at all. A penalty committed with one minute remaining is only half as costly as one committed with two or morning minutesby BearLover - Hockey

Re: Yale at Cornell, 2/17 - 3 months ago
Iceberg Yale obviously trying to pressure as much as they can on the forecheck. They were caught on the tying goal, but this is clearly not the same opponent as yesterday We had a lot of trouble with them earlier this year too.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Brown vs. Cornell 2/16 - 3 months ago
DL BearLover Why is Grady talking about crowd size with 2 minutes to go and Brown’s goalie pulled??????? He has been a lot better lately with the tangents but this one was inexcusable. At least Grady's tangents are short and hardly detract. I'll take anything he cares to mention about any day of the week over Tim "No Doubt About It" Vanini's drawn-out, repetitive ramblings that almost nby BearLover - Hockey

VIEWfromK Trotsky Play our game, stay outta the box. Back. At. The GRIND. There continues to be a complete dedication to earning the puck in every zone from the bottom of the lineup to the top. There might have been one legitimate hit last night (Bancroft leveling that guy behind the net) but they use their strength and size to take advantage of every situation. CC incoming…they have the 16th best RPI and they’re about to beat #2 NoDak. So now we are going to have to contend with them, too.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Brown vs. Cornell 2/16 - 3 months ago
Good crowd and dominant win tonight. Should have been at least 5-0. This team is really firing on all cylinders (I’m sure they’ll lose to Yale tomorrow now that I’ve said that). PP looked a little better; at least we’re willing to shoot it on net now. And it was nice running into BigDingus in the bathroom. Always fun to see a BigDingus in the bathroom.by BearLover - Hockey

Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 3 months ago
Getting no help from Minn-Duluth. They are already down 2-0 to Denver. (We played UMD twice so we care about them for SOS, plus if they sweep Denver it opens up a very outside chance that Denver goes into a tailspin and drops below us in the rankings.)by BearLover - Hockey

dbilmes According to an email sent out earlier today by the Athletics Department, the Yale game is a sellout but there are still tickets available for the Brown game tonight. Cornell has two home basketball games this weekend which conflict with the hockey games. Hopefully that doesn’t impact attendance too much.by BearLover - Hockey

ugarte BL annoys me less than a lot of people on here even when i disagree with him. He's got strong opinions and way too much of the Need To Argue Pedantically about the same issues like he's got a calendar tickler, but the structure of eLF has too many windows for people to be throwing stones around. I clearly suffer from too much Need To Argue Pedantically about stuff, which I acknowledge andby BearLover - Hockey

adamw BearLover adamw BearLover adamw BearLover—Cornell has only 2 seniors, one of whom is the third string goalie. They do not have enough experience to compete for a national title this year. My best guess is the finish in the 20s in the Pairwise. Pghas We seem to be bouncing back and forth between threads a bit here…hope this is the right one. Had the opportunity last night to watch Gio DeGiulian play. He’s going to be a great player for us. Wheels, wheels, wheels and great hands. Not sure if he is playing juniors after Kent or maybe just comes straight to Cornell? Anyway, he was the best player on the ice ( I thought).
