Re: Recruits 2024 and Beyond - 29 days ago
If the hockey gods came to me with an offer to make the ECAC mediocre for all eternity, I think I would accept. Take this year for example: —great shot at another piece of hardware (ECAC championship) and automatic bid —no signs whatsoever that a weak ECAC impeded our ability to play with the best (we played two of our best games of the season in the NCAAs against the #5 and #3 teams in the couby BearLover - Hockey

Dafatone BearLover I guess I’m just kind of tired of it. “The future is bright.” “This freshman class is gonna be really special.” “Cornell will be the favorite in the ECAC next season.” That’s all well and good but at some point you actually have to win. It took a crazy series of events for us to end up in the NCAA quarterfinals with a great chance to win, but we DID end up there, and we DIDN’Tby BearLover - Hockey

My point isn’t that this was not a strong year. It was a great year. The ECAC championship was awesome. I will look back on it fondly for a long time. My point is that all of this is meaningless in the context of today’s game. These tropes make us feel better about the crushing loss, but they don’t mean it’s not a crushing loss. Like, we could tell ourselves it was a great year in one month, or yby BearLover - Hockey

Sorry, but please spare me with how we had a great year, how we were playing with house money, how fortunate we were to get here, how good a team Denver is, how bright the future is. This isn’t intended as a snipe at the posters on here, all of whom I respect, with few exceptions, like blackwidow, who is a loser, and abmarks, who has been stalking me for several years now. Re: NCAA Tournament 2024 - 30 days ago
imafrshmn For the ticket counters out there: reported attendance for yesterday's Missouri regional games (MSU-WMU,NoDak-UMich) was a COMBINED 3148, which would be about 63% of capacity). So what happened to the other 37% of tickets? Weren’t tickets going for $2000?by BearLover - Hockey

Re: NCAA Tournament 2024 - 4 weeks ago
I’m confused. Wasn’t there all this talk about demand for the Maryland Heights regional greatly outstripping the supply (2,500 seats)? But 2/3 of the seats are empty for UMich-NoDak.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament 2024 - 4 weeks ago
Quinnipiac winning would typically really blow. Especially since I was really hoping BC got upset, but now I’ll have to root for them next round. Despite all this, the damage was already done when Q won last year. Can’t go back on that now. Diminishing marginal pain from Q winning again.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament 2024 - 4 weeks ago
ugarte Beeeej Announcers in the Q-Wisco game just name-checked/praised Schafer for being such a good coach that Tupker and Malone have been able to fit in so well and contribute so effectively on Quinnipiac and BC respectively.*the world's longest sigh* meanwhile Q about to start a PP after a beautiful pass set up a shot at an open net and the purest clang off the post i think i've ever heardby BearLover - Hockey

Maine had two Nadeau brothers. Denver, for all intents and purposes, has eight. (However, one of their best forwards, Massimo Rizzo, missed the first round with an injury.)by BearLover - Hockey
Re: NCAA Round 1 - Maine - 4 weeks ago
Larry72 chimpfood Man we’ve got a real winnable game up next too. Denver didn’t look good against UMass, will be gassed from double OT, and we beat them last year. Let’s get Schafer his frozen four that he deserves. Remember that Denver is playing essentially at sea level instead of 5000"+, they have a day off, and they all are in great shape (as is Cornell)! Re: NCAA Round 1 - Maine - 4 weeks ago
That was the first time Cornell looked this way the entire season. I’m not sure if it was partially the superior broadcast quality or if Cornell really did just reach another defensive gear tonight. The first period was dicey but after that the defense and compete level were off the charts.by BearLover - Hockey

cth95 I was a dairy farmer and always worked when I was sick. I would want to play. The difference is, I was helping people by getting my chores done so they didn't have to do extra work. On a team in an important game, you would be hurting your teammates if you tired quickly and your reflexes were slower than normal. Re: Recruits 2024 and Beyond - 4 weeks ago
Al DeFlorio Cornell would be better prepared for tomorrow night's game if we had played a Hockey East schedule this year. Four HEA teams made the NCAAs this year. Had Q won the ECACs, there would have been one ECAC team, and it wouldn't have been Cornell, despite a twenty win season. I don't buy your self-serving logic, BearLover, one bit. Winning the ECACs was much more satisfying when Cby BearLover - Hockey

Pghas pjd8 BearLover RichH BearLover I’ll get yelled at for saying this, but…turns out having five draft picks in your freshman class (maybe six, if Robertson gets picked this year) is a good thing. And, in another one of BearLover’s Classic Takes, the conference being weak this year helped us too…to win a championship, the teams we had to beat were ranked 50th, 29th, and 43rd in the PWR… Ah, bby BearLover - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 4 weeks ago
Iceberg chimpfood On the CHN podcast today Adam said that he supports teams being able to host regionals in their own rinks but should only play there if they are a one or two seed. To me, this makes no sense to not just do home games for the first two rounds. Firstly, it shows that he has no issue with schools hosting NCAA games in their home rink and this system doesn’t eliminate home advantageby BearLover - Hockey
