Re: Should He Stay or Should He Go? - 9 years ago
This is the third season that I have run some version of this poll. Previous seasons: March 2014 N=123 Stay=96,78% Go=9, 7% Unsure=18,15% March 2013 N=94 Stay=87,93% Go=7,7% If the results continue as they have so far, I think it is safe to say, that at least for this population, there has been a change in attitude about the Coach.by Towerroad - Hockey
Re: ECAC Prelims - 9 years ago
BearLover Icy Mike's comments: "...I have to go back to what I really believe in..." So Schafer's plan is to scrap whatever new ideas he had and go back to the previous system. To me this says he has no clue how to change/adapt. I have no faith that things are going to improve. I think the reality is that he tried something new because what he was doing no longer worked as well aby Towerroad - Hockey

KeithK Roy 82 KeithK Jim Hyla BearLover This team hasn't had a 4-point weekend since November. I don't think we have to worry about any byes. Nobody's worrying, but this thread is labeled "possibilities ". It's more fun to dream of unlikely possibilities (like twelve game winning streaks) than to just write off the team as a lousy .500 squad and look forward to November. I happen tby Towerroad - Hockey

djk26 Trotsky Trivia contest on the Harvard hockey site. In other news, there's a Harvard hockey site. I answered the questions. One of them was, "What is the date of the game against Cornell?" If "when's the game" qualifies as a trivia question, then that is not a sign of an engaged fanbase. Then again, I understand that home crowds at Lynah haven't exactly been setby Towerroad - Hockey

Re: Lynah East roll call - 9 years ago
RichH CowbellGuy Was planning on it but I don't know if the weather will cooperate. Yeah, the National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Watch (not a Warning yet) starting at 7pm Saturday. Given the already poor conditions everywhere around Boston, I wouldn't be shocked to see the game postponed, but we'll see. It will probably keep both Sucks fans away unless their servants can shovel a paby Towerroad - Hockey
Re: What a difference one goal makes - 9 years ago
andyw2100 I get frustrated when I read posts stating outright or even just implying that it's time for Schafer to move on or that it soon may be. In my opinion, Coach Schafer has earned the right to coach Cornell as long as he likes, and personally I hope that it's a good, long time longer. For starters, what makes any of you believe there's anyone out there who could do any better? When I heby Towerroad - Hockey

Re: What a difference one goal makes - 9 years ago
Trotsky marty Trotsky I'm still firmly in the Schafer is God camp. However, Yale is valid evidence that an Ivy can play firewagon hockey and win a title -- a thing I would have not believed before they did it. From what I understand, Schafer based The System on the 3-time NCAA champion Lake Superior State teams of the late 80's and early 90's. Those teams were built from the net out, thoughby Towerroad - Hockey

Re: What a difference one goal makes - 9 years ago
The logic I keep hearing on these pages goes something like this. 1. The instinct for finding the back of the net is somthing that a player brings with him. Coaching can help but if it is not there all the coaching in the world will not make a huge difference. 2. The Systemtm is built from the crease out and is focused on defense. 3. The Systemtm makes Cornell less desireable home for pby Towerroad - Hockey

RichH Johnny 5 Curious. Terrible in what way? Attitude? Attendance? I did notice that they were throwing cheaper types of fish this year. I thought it was worth typing up the quote: The atmosphere Harvard is always electric. I wish our fans would show up for the games like that all the time. Re: Gillam nominated for Hobey Baker Award . . . - 9 years ago
KeithK steveb I just voted for him. Aside from impressive stats in net, he's only six points behind Lowry as team scoring leader. If only Schafer would stop designing the offense to revolve around Gillam... What is this offense thing you speak of?by Towerroad - Hockey

Re: Florida hockey tournement - 9 years ago
TimV I have a suggestion. When Ned was the lacrosse coach, he wouldn't let anybody shoot in practice standing still. You had to be moving, and the closer to full speed the better. Set up the skating treadmill so that it's a medium distance from a goal- maybe the same distance as the top of the faceoff circles at most, and the slot hashmarks at the least, maybe 10 feet or so to one side or theby Towerroad - Hockey

Dafatone I'm also surprised. I guess we're only at .500, but we started the season ranked, and it's odd to see any benefit of the doubt from that vanish and then not return. The bottom 3 teams on the list were all over .500 so I think we need to win a few more games before we climb out of the primordial ooze.by Towerroad - Hockey
