Good Article! I am not sure I agree with all of it though. Schafer has done great things for the program but I doubt that the "Schafer System" with it's absolute premium on grind it out defense will ever take the program to the next level. Year after year I watch the same so so power play and offensive system. (shoot for the perimeter and hope for a garbage goal). I don't think the &quby Towerroad - Hockey

I agree the IOC should take the stick out. If they want to punish the team then the doddering old fools should put on skates and embarrass the Canadian Women at their own game. I would pay real good money to see that. The IOC is just trying to protect its commercial interests that is all. I will raise a beer to the Canadian women tonight and a finger to the IOC.by Towerroad - Other Sports

RichH Towerroad My favorite moment is always the Alma Maters. Sucks and both their fans read the theirs from the Jumbotron and then 1000 Cornellians stand and sing. Their band has moved playing "Fair Harvard" to the 2nd intermission. In past years, they would only play it to close down the empty building at the end of the game. They still did that last night, but playing it for theby Towerroad - Hockey

I got to my first game in person this year and it was a solid win over Sucks. I try to go to the Sucks game every year. The team came out strong in the first period and had a number of quality chances but could not finish. The power play is the same one that I have seen for the last 5 or 6 years. Move the puck around the perimeter a little bit, take a slap shot from the point and watch it bounceby Towerroad - Hockey

From my perspective Cornell Men’s Hockey, with its great traditions and the best fans in college hockey will over the long haul be ranked at the end of the season #10 with a standard error of +/-3. This means that we will make the NCAA tournament most years and on a rare occasion the Frozen 4 but, like Moses, the Promised Land will elude us. For the sake of this discussion take the above as gby Towerroad - Hockey

Why back in my day we had to walk 5 miles up hill to and from a game and we counted ourselves lucky if the team didn't drown in Beebe Lake. (Well to tell the truth we kind of hoped for it when we played Sucks) If students have more choices that is a good thing. During my stay on the hill the Basketball team was a joke. With the cost of a CU education crossing the $200k line I suspect that a loby Towerroad - Hockey
Re: Yale 2 at Cornell 1 (OT) postgame - 14 years ago
I think we will pretty quickly get to a Chicken and Egg discussion but if Coach Schafers claim to fame is being able to develop players then why do they all become defense experts? How can we take that talent and move it to the other side of the ice? Put another way. You are a hot shot 5'10 175 lb forward who is fast, has good hands, excellent stick work, a sniper eye and academically qualifieby Towerroad - Hockey

This is my first post, but I have been reading and following Big Red Hockey on and off since the 60's. I can't fault the players for the Yale performance. They were recruited to play a certain style of hockey and they have been playing the game they were coached to play. The "Schafer System" consistently builds teams that are as good as any hockey team in college hockey on defenby Towerroad - Hockey
