Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
LynahFaithful Swampy LynahFaithful redice I'd like to see him stay & continue to direct the program..... But, I do believe it's time to make sweeping changes to the assistant coaching. Replacing everyone BUT Schafer would bring some new ideas into the program while maintaining that steady hand on the controls.... I think you're right - the system he has built (defense rooted) has hadby Towerroad - Hockey
Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
LynahFaithful redice Again, I pose the question: Is it coaching, play style, lack of chemistry among players, etc? Isn't there one person who is ultimately responsible for all of these? Maybe not at Cornell.by Towerroad - Hockey
Re: Should He Stay or Should He Go - Lax Coach - 9 years ago
Jim Hyla phillysportsfan Well on the bright side, no Final 4 for Syracuse To continue the thread drift, I could never understand why people have such negative feelings about other schools. To me it's like the gay marriage idea, how does another school doing well adversely affect your like for your school? I generally agree but can we make an exception for Harvard?by Towerroad - Other Sports
Re: Should He Stay or Should He Go - Lax Coach - 9 years ago
phillysportsfan I think he should get another year but there is no comparision with Saban. It doesnt matter what we think anyway, too patient Andy didnt let Bill Courtney go, Kerwick's here for another 5 years either way as long as Andy is still in charge I think you are right. For better or worse (I hope for better but expect worse) the AD can't can the Lax coach as long as he stays on the straiby Towerroad - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Men's Lacrosse 2015 - 9 years ago
CU77 First of all, Tambroni is not ever returning to Cornell. Why would he leave PSU, which will let him stay until he retires as long as the results are not truly miserable, to return to a school that has many more restrictions on recruiting, and that fired his hand-picked successor a few years later, just after he'd gotten the team to the Final Four? None of us on the outside know what happenedby Towerroad - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Men's Lacrosse 2015 - post mortem - 9 years ago
billhoward Jeff Tambroni has not found Cornell-like success in Happy Valley: 40-33 overall, high water mark in 2013, one NCAA tournament. 2011 7-7 2012 9-6 2013 12-5 2014 7-6 2015 5-9 Does that suggest that you would not like to see him return to Cornell?by Towerroad - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Men's Lacrosse 2015 - post mortem - 9 years ago
billhoward So 2016 could be a rebuilding year. But the freshmen who get more playing time will be awesome the three years after that. Maybe Matt Kerwick can learn and grow further into his position. This is, or was, one of the preeminant programs in the country. This is not a program where the coach learns now to coach on the job. It is a program where a proven coach takes things to the next leby Towerroad - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Men's Lacrosse 2015 - post mortem - 9 years ago
billhoward 2015 was the year of the missing children. Ben DeLuca was dismissed fall 2013, giving Class of 2018 recruits, this year's freshmen, time to commit elsewhere. IIRC, a couple times on broadcasts I heard that so-and-so new at, say, Notre Dame had planned on Cornell. Cornell definitely underperformed the second half of the season. Big Red snag a talented Moscow native with great finishing and skillset.— Over The Boards (@OTBPuckWatch) April 26, 2015 Did I read the tweet correctly to say that he's a "great finishing" forward? Ken711 upprdeck It would a nice thing for the SuN to get an explanation on why the Ivy still does not let the fball teams go to the ncaa when all the other sports can now.. low level football or not having something to play for would probably help all the ivy teams recruit and play at a better level and increase attendance. That has been discussed numerous times here. The Ivy Presidents wonby Towerroad - Other Sports

Trotsky billhowardEven now, football provides a fabric for fall activities by students and alumni five times each fall. No. Unless things have dramatically changed since I was a student, 97% of the students could not care less. The bandies had to be there and the frats did their cute frat stuff, but otherwise nobody gave a shit. Hockey was unique in that interesting students actually careby Towerroad - Other Sports

Ken711 Scersk '97 Ken711 Scersk '97 No argument here. Why did Jim Hofher leave, again? It was his choice. He wanted to return to coaching at the D1 level, hoping to advance his coaching career at a higher level program. Perhaps if we'd been to show him a bit more green, or some facility upgrades? CAS Football 1-9. Only win over Columbia. Columbia recently hired Al Bagnoli, winner of 9 Ivy titles at Penn. Basketball 5-9 in Ivies w/senior dominated team. Winner of one third of its games in 5 years under Bill Courtney. Steve Donahue, who won 3 consecutive Ivy titles preceding Courtney's hiring, is now coaching Penn. Hockey 11-14. 7th in ECAC. Trotsky jtwcornell91 I think the time has come to post this again: video: Yes, well. The thing is, if you assured me Cornell would create something with that degree of humor and insanity, I'd at least waver. But we've all seen what's come out of Cornell the last 50 years. Kyle Rose KeithK... and fenway are the best places in MLB to watch a ballgame precisely because of the old school "features" (drawbacks to some). Yeah, Fenway is awesome if you like looking at support posts and craning your head 70 degrees to the left to see the infield if you didn't pay a ton for your seats. jkahn Trotsky dbilmes Will Jack Eichel be there as well? If he turns pro after being most likely the No. 2 pick in the upcoming NHL draft, he will never have experienced the thrill of Red Hot Hockey! KeithK Kyle Rose Agreed, but why do people care so much in the first place? I'm sure the highest-minded English teacher nowadays would sound like an uneducated bumpkin to Victorian elites. Re: 2015-16 - 9 years ago
KeithK I look at this data and see a powerhouse squad from 2002 to 2003 which scored a lot (relatively speaking) followed by a trend that is pretty cose to that for the ECAC average from 2004 through 2014, then finally an out of family low value in 2015. Is it fair to only look at 2004-2014 to assess the overall trend instead of 2002-2015? Or 1996-2015? *shrug* There's so much variability herby Towerroad - Hockey

Trotsky TowerroadProjections are a tricky business but we could be in real trouble in 20 years or so.When we're scoring -2.5 goals per game? If you believe the trend will persist, then in 20 years we would be scoring 1.4 to 1.8 fewer goals per game than we are now. So to summarize so far About 1/4 of the respondents are not interested in a change. About 1/3 would like to make a change The balance are willing to stick it out at least another season but are willing to consider a change One telling statistic is the N. To date we have only had 70 respondents vs 123 last year and 94 the prior year. The voting is still active but it looks like fewer peoplby Towerroad - Hockey
