Re: ECACs Lake Placid roll call 2014 - 10 years ago
Trotsky Beeeej nyc94 Not sure where else to put this: USCHO Union is looking to become the first back-to-back-to-back Whitelaw Cup-winner since Boston University won it four times in a row, between 1974-77. I rushed right over to USCHO and was just about to post my usual snark-filled correction, until I noticed the third "back" in there. Whew. Yep, it is indeed a correct staby kingpin248 - Hockey

Per a tweet from CHN, next year's championship weekend in Lake Placid will have three games instead of four (or five - ugh), as ECAC comes into line with the other leagues: ECAC decides to finally officially do away with Consolation game. Jordan 04 Is there any objective criteria for stall warnings? Short answer: no. Rule 6, section 11: The rule book SECTION 11. a. It shall be the responsibility of the team in possession to try and create a scoring opportunity. Exception: If the offensive team has the ball in the attack area and the defensive team is not playing the ball, no stall warning will be issued until either (1) the defeby kingpin248 - Other Sports

billhoward Jim HylaCorrect, they use a margin of victory which has scoring margin and home/away as part of the mix. Isn't there a cap on MOV to collapse the effect of the early 19-11, 11-6, 19-3, 18-7 runaways? 10 goals.by kingpin248 - Other Sports

ursusminor marty ursusminor RPI is losing Nick Bailen whom the powerplay was centered around. The powerplay will need to be reconstructed. He will be replaced on the roster by Parker Reno who was a finalist for Minnesota's Mr. Hockey award and is expected to be drafted this year, but he is not the offensive force (and often defensive liability) that Bailen has been. Besides for him, RPI is indeby kingpin248 - Hockey

New polls out; Cornell back up to no. 2 in both, behind Maryland. Media gives the Big Red 3 of 23 first-place votes (the remainder going to Maryland). Coaches give the Big Red 3 of 9 first-place votes (five to Maryland, one to North Carolina). Re: NCAA Tournament - 11 years ago
Swampy BearLover Not sure why people here want Yale to keep winning. It doesn't actually do Cornell any bit of good because the rankings are computerized, and I don't want Cornell to no longer be the team that has gotten the farthest in the NCAA tourney in recent memory. Nonetheless, it's official: Yale is better than Cornell at hockey right now. I don't mean this current team, I mean theby kingpin248 - Hockey

Trotsky Oh, I'd call this a sweet, sweet challenge either to John or somebody of similar skill. Doesn't have quite the visual flair, but here are the Bradley-Terry based probabilities for the Sweet 16. Re: Conference Tournaments / NCAA Bubble - 11 years ago
Rita Trotsky There is a comment on the USCHO game thread that attendance looked to be "about one quarter of a game at Meehan." Brown's mean attendance is listed on CHN as 1264. That would make last night's attendance 316. 316 sounds about right. Families of the players and the school bands should be good for about ~ 75/people per team. The updated box score claims 3145 ticketsby kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Conference Tournaments / NCAA Bubble - 11 years ago
Trotsky Union wins 5-zip. The ECAC will get its three reps. Somehow appropriate that this upside down ECAC season - with Cornell, Harvard, and Clarkson finishing in the bottom four, and none of those three in the tournament semifinals for only the second time ever - ends with two long-time doormats playing for the Whitelaw Trophy.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Conference Tournaments / NCAA Bubble - 11 years ago
Jim Hyla Trotsky It's the quietest rink I've ever heard. Brown must think it's a home game. Not that it's accurate (they probably don't want to publish the real number), but from the boxscore: Attendance: 0 I recall this happening last year. Since it's a single ticket for both games, possibly they won't have the number until after the second game?by kingpin248 - Hockey

Re: Quarterfinal rooting interests - 11 years ago
Trotsky 20 combined ECAC final four appearances among this year's teams: Brown (9), Yale (6), Union (3), Quinnipiac (2). AC attendance is likely to be... sparse. 3 combined ECAC titles. To put that in perspective, BU has 5 ECAC titles and their last one was 2 months after Jimmy Carter's inauguration. Since RPI last made it to championship weekend, the venue has changed three times (incluby kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: ECAC Playoff Series on the Road - 11 years ago
snert1288 I know in 2008, 2010, and 2011 the #1 seed lost in the QF. So, it has not been uncommon in recent memory. Those are the only three occasions. The #2 seed, on the other hand, is 9-1, with the sole loss coming in 2004 (us, to Clarkson). Overall, teams with a bye through the first round are 31-9 in their quarterfinal series under the current format.by kingpin248 - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Princeton - 11 years ago
ajh258 By my count, if scores hold (Brown and SLU moves on), we'll be playing Yale if Harvard wins, and Union if Harvard loses... Another reason to cheer against Harvard If Brown and SLU hold on: Dartmouth wins Sunday -- 5/6/7/9 advance; we get Quinnipiac. Harvard wins Sunday -- 6/7/9/12 advance; we get Rensselaer.by kingpin248 - Hockey
