Re: Not a goal? - 12 years ago
I don't know, I guess I didn't mind the passes I saw. A lot creativity than past seasons, and a lot of nice, short passes in the neutral zone to keep players moving with speed. BU did a nice job on the forecheck, but the majority of breakouts were pretty clean because of the short passing. I noticed a lot less in the way of haphazard firing of the puck into the neutral zone or into marked skatersby oceanst41 - Hockey
Re: Not a goal? - 12 years ago
It is unfortunate, but I heard the whistle in the arena as well. It was pretty clear from the reactions of all on the ice that nobody had any clue where the puck was, and it was as the players began to let up that the ref came out blowing the whistle and pointing up, assuming the puck must have ended up in the net. You could also see the surprise as the puck then ended up in the net, which promptby oceanst41 - Hockey

Re: North Dakota Postgame 1/23 - 14 years ago
Jim Hyla No it was not a clean pick. Terrible no call. The whole rink, Cornell bench and coaches were in uproar over it. I'm going to look at the Redcast, but a terrible way to end a good game. Yes, again they outplayed us, they have better players than we do; but to take the wind out of our sails that way was terrible. I have not taken a look at a replay yet, but at first blush it appeared toby oceanst41 - Hockey

sah67 Byron Bitz is a scratch for the first time in a while tonight. Probably had to do with the insertion of new acquisition Miroslav Satan into the lineup and the return of Milan Lucic. The Globe beat writer is saying it's because of a back injury, and he likely won't play Saturday despite Savard being out now too. Though Sobotka certainly has been playing well enough of late to at least queby oceanst41 - Hockey

ftyuv What the heck is there to not stand about Thomas? The guy's awesome. As a Bruins fan I love the guy, but I can definitely understand how easy it would be to root against him if he played for the other team. He's gotten better, but the punk in him comes out every once and a while (see Winter Classic).by oceanst41 - Hockey

RatushnyFan ftyuv What the heck is there to not stand about Thomas? The guy's awesome.I agree. The guy gutted it out in the minors for years. NHL allegiances aside, it's hard to understand why anyone would despise guys like Parise, Langenbrunner and Komisarek. Parise in particular plays every shift with lot of intensity, his willpower is off the charts in my book. Let's go USA! The best way Iby oceanst41 - Hockey

Good forecheck by Bitz leads to a Hunwick shot from the point that Bitz tips in as he headed back to the front of the net. Not a bad way to end the month (and year).by oceanst41 - Hockey
Re: CC 4, Cornell 2 (Florida Classic) postgame - 14 years ago
It sure looked like a holiday hangover. They really didn't skate with CC at all, and as a result took so awful penalties. Lots of "reaching" for checks from a trailing position. A couple of the trips looked like a case of tangled feet rather than stick-to-skate, but they originated from being out of position in the first place. The wosrt one I can think of was D'Agostino hooking theby oceanst41 - Hockey
Re: Colorado College 3 Cornell 1, 2nd Period - Florida Game 1 - 14 years ago
"If this is the best team in the east, I hope Colorado College gets sent out east." Nice editorial from the play by play guy for CC. Though Cornell isn't doing much to make a case otherwise.by oceanst41 - Hockey

Re: Alumni in the Pros - December 2009 - 14 years ago
Not good news for Bitzy. Bruins Blog Looks like the Byron Bitz experiment might be over. Bitz couldn't bury a fabulous scoring chance in the first, and didn't have much offensive presence otherwise. Tough to criticize a grinder for not scoring, but as noted before, Bitz doesn't have the finish to have playing time alongside Marc Savard. Rita Matt picked up his 15th goal of the season towards the end of the 2nd period. Game tied at 2-2, 3rd period underway. Moulson has killed the Bruins this year. I believe that was his 3rd goal in 3 games.by oceanst41 - Hockey

jtwcornell91 phillysportsfan I am heading up to Syracuse for the game and wanted to know if anybody knew any good cheap places to eat in Syracuse? It probably doesn't qualify as cheap, but if you haven't been to Dinosaur Bar-B-Que you should go. Seconded.by oceanst41 - Other Sports

Scersk '97 HockeyManI really had a feeling we would tie it in those final frantic minutes. I felt the same. I don't like what makes the comebacks necessary, but I have the feeling that this team can come back on anybody and from any (reasonable) deficit. I think this means we have a team that has a shot to continue the trend of falling behind 2-0, only to win 3-2 in the NCAAs.by oceanst41 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2 Yale 3 ( 3rd period) - 14 years ago
Al DeFlorio Cornell recovered fairly nicely after that horrific first period, but managed few good scoring chances. Yale's winning goal seemed too easy, but I'd need to see a replay to really say. Seems to me we fiddly-farted around too much on the 5x3 and again on the last power play. It sure looked like there was no "plan" on that 5X3, just a lot of excited passing and running aroby oceanst41 - Hockey

Re: Cornell vs. Niagara Postgame - 14 years ago
ugarte HockeyMan Obviously, it takes genuine talent and years of hard training to get to this level. But your insistence that the players are therefore all the same in this regard, that we should never differentiate among them re their intensity/effort/heart/desire/focus, is just plain silly. The point is not that some people don't care more or less than others. The point is that you have no earby oceanst41 - Hockey

profudgeredice and RichH, I agree - I miss the FM away game broadcasts and I am near top of hill about 20 miles south of Ithaca. AM is impossible to listen to most evenings. French RageThis season's keys to success: 1) Riley Nash needs to be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine. 2) Whenever Riley Nash is not on the ice, all the other players should be asking "Where's Riley?". Well I don't know about louder and angrier, but he definitely looks bigger and stronger on the puck.by oceanst41 - Hockey
Re: Alumni In The Pros - October 2009 - 14 years ago
The Bruins have now lost Savard for 4-6 weeks (in addition to Lucic), and traded away Kobasew. They got Paille to fill one of those slots, and while Bitz hasn't played much, if any, center in the NHL I think he may get a few looks on one of the top 3 lines. He already got a start on the second line (with Krejci and Wheeler) when Lucic first went down. I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen agaiby oceanst41 - Hockey

ftyuvBitz is on the second PK line. I can't remember if he was there in the last game. I was thinking the same thing. I don't remember him getting much PK time in the first game, but he sure spent a lot of time there last night. Had two grade A scoring chances too - the best one coming on a wrap around that had Leighton out of position. However, it looked like his stick broke as he was trying tby oceanst41 - Hockey

Re: Alumni In The Pros - September 2009 - 14 years ago
RatushnyFanWhat line is Bitz on? He's earmarked as a fixture on the 4th line? Pretty much. He'll play with Shawn Thornton and Steve Begin to start the season, with Vlady Sobotka waiting down in Providence to step in for injuries or poor play. By all accounts the coaching staff loves him. Julien has said early this year that the fans have yet to see Bitz's full potential. He also showed someby oceanst41 - Hockey
