Re: Yale 3 @ Cornell 2, 2nd Period - 15 years ago
DisplacedCornellianWell...Yale didn't score...so that's a plus RitaI was just glad we didn't give up a shg. That was quite ugly. And this is the only part of that powerplay I liked.by oceanst41 - Hockey

Re: Scrivens for Hobey? - 15 years ago
Hopefully the Hobey websites has more up to date images than USCHO. When is the last time Scrivens wore the all white helmet anyway?by oceanst41 - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros, January 2009 - 15 years ago
I'd say Bitz had his best game since his debut last night vs. the Leafs. He was strong on the boards, had a nice cycling shift that that led to a long possession and a goal for the next line, and nearly scored his first NHL goal (Toskela robbed him with a two pad stack). He played 11:46 too, which is his highest game total. Julien is big on rewarding good play with ice time, and his last three gaby oceanst41 - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros, January 2009 - 15 years ago
dargasonoceanst41 Yes he did. He took his regular shifts in the third. My bad, I wasn't watching...just read the game blog afterwards. Glad he's ok. I wish I hadn't watched. I don't buy the call that essentially ended the game, there was contact with the puck above the crossbar and it should've been a no goal. I'm going to relax with a beer now, and take some aspirin for the headache tby oceanst41 - Hockey

Re: Cornell 4 Union 1 Postgame - 15 years ago
Larry72 The not so good: - CU is taking too many penalties - some of the dumb variety. - Defensive zone turnovers - more than Schafer would like to see. Not as many in the neutral zone which is good. - Still need to finish and drive the net. Nice goal by Collins by doing just that! Dumb and lazy. It's one thing to be a physical team that takes a lot of roughing, charging, et al. penby oceanst41 - Hockey

Trotskyoceanst41jaybertapparently we gave up 7 goals to #1 Notre Dame So that means we also beat them 2-1 then right? No, that was against Norsk Dysmeliforenings Ungdom (Norwegian Dysmelia Youth Association). Re: Bitz playing for Boston right now! - 15 years ago
Thornton gave him props in the postgame too, saying he did an "unbelievable" job coming up and playing so well on short notice. He really did play a solid game. He had a few big hits, an assit, but ended up even thanks to a deflection that went in to the back of the net in slo-mo. And I had almost forgot how well he skated for a big guy. As well as the Bruins are playing, injurby oceanst41 - Hockey
Re: UMass-Amherst Roll Call - 15 years ago
jputterman24I'll be there with 3 others. Anyone know if the band will make it? I have general admission tickets...any idea which section cornell fans will be in? The Mullins Center is pretty big, and with the students on break I'm guessing moving around to sit with other Big Red fans won't be a problem.by oceanst41 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 SCSU 2 (3rd) - 15 years ago
sah67Wow, the SCSU color guy pulls the Facetimer routine and starts with the "SHOOOT, SHOOOOT!"...unbelievable. Maybe it's just me, but I was getting a pretty good laugh out of those guys. Especially when the color guy started up with the, "shooot, shoot!" And I thought the broadcast was more of a Roe lovefest, but Lasch was a close second. Just making it back to Minneapolis after leaving Grand Forks this morning. Rather than post in both postgame threads, I'll just but some weekend thoughts here. I think I saw it mentioned, and know I discussed with those who traveled, that Friday night Cornell got suckered into playing NoDak's game, whereas Saturday night Cornell dictated the style of play. Re: Cornell football ambivalence - 15 years ago
I think you have to really love football and/or really love the tradition of Ivy football to sit through these games. There are just too many reasons for the casual fan to not give a damn about the football team, whether it be style of play, quality of the team, lack of a postseason, etc. I went to games because I love football and love Cornell, some people need more than that.by oceanst41 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell to play two @ North Dakota - 15 years ago
JDeafvApparently we got bumped from the schedule and UND is now playing a small liberal arts school in Iowa. Quality reporting. I'll be driving through Cedar Rapids tomorrow on my way to Minneapolis, so I'll be sure to let them know they need to get a team to Grand Forks on the double.by oceanst41 - Hockey

JDeafvoceanst41Do you mean Nickerson/Varteressian? I didn't want to attempt to spell Varteressian and was too lazy to look it up, but that's the only one I remember. I thought about that the second I hit "post" - and sure enough it's a double s. So fixed our posts.by oceanst41 - Hockey
Re: North Dakota Sioux are DIRTY!! Why are we going to their house? - 15 years ago
Chris '03JDeafv In the 10 years I've been watching Cornell hockey, I can only think of 1. In two seconds I can think of Nickerson/Gleed '04 and Colgate/Cornell '00. I'm sure there have been others even if you don't include Red/White a few years ago. I also have a clear memory of NoDak getting into it at Yale in November '02. Cornell11at the end of the video, howie rose says that o'byrne has been catching a lot of heat in montreal. i know firsthand that those are some of the most bloodthirsty fans out there, and this definitely isn't going to make him any more popular. I kind of agree that Kennedy2 and Jillson have been buzzing the past few games. I also think that Greening and Nash can create space for Barlow to use his great shot (now if only the posts would stop getting in the way).by oceanst41 - Hockey

Robbsah67From today's IJ: Ithaca Journal Ross was injured in the third period on a collision with forechecking Dartmouth winger Rob Pitchard. No penalty was called on the play, but Schafer said the video tells a different story. “We'll send it in (to the league office) for supplemental discipline,” he said. “It was definitely knee-to-knee contact. We'll see what happens.” Ross returned tby oceanst41 - Hockey
Re: Signs/Cheers/Chants for North Dakota - 15 years ago
We get to leave! At least South Dakota has Mt. Rushmore South Dakota (Canada, Montana, etc.) called, and they said you suck (you're boring?) There could also be a play on the (Big)Red River that runs through Grand Forks. Any good material from Fargo? I know the name Fargo was about all North Dakota contributed to that movie, but there's got to be something in there.by oceanst41 - Hockey

Re: Cornell 2 Harvard 1 - 15 years ago
scoop85Will be interesting to see how they come out of the gate tomorrow. Given Dartmouth's early season success, no reason there should be a letdown. Especially considering that last year's sweep of DC is more the exception than the rule in recent years. They usually come to play tough against Cornell.by oceanst41 - Hockey
Re: Cornell to play two @ North Dakota - 15 years ago
Trotskyoceanst41Well the team has one game left that they should not overlook tomorrow night, but for the rest of us it's one week left until game one at UND.Where by "the rest of us" you mean you.
