Re: Great Schafer Interview (Topher Scott confirmed as 2nd Assistant) - 12 years ago
It was also interesting that Coach Schafer offered some very high praise for Athletic Director Andy Noel.by min - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Yale postgame - 13 years ago
They say that a 4-seed is a 4-seed is a 4-seed. But why does this year's 4th place finish feel very different from that 4th place finish back in 1996, during Coach Schafer's first season? Why do I still feel depressed?by min - Hockey
Coach Schafer's Game Recaps - 13 years ago
I'm sure many of you receive these emails from Coach Schafer during the hockey season as well, but I was wondering whether the author of these emails is really him. I ask because sometimes the game recaps do not sound like him at ll. Witness the first two paragraphs of this week's email: UNH 7, CORNELL 4 RIT 5, CORNELL 3 Obviously, this was not the way we wanted to begin the season. Mby min - Hockey
Re: The (Kentucky) Empire Strikes Back - 14 years ago
I don't mean to open a can of worms, but can someone remind me again why Cornell and the other Ivies don't offer athletic scholarships? It can't all be about academics and student standards. Other "smart" schools (Stanford, Cal, Duke, Michigan, you name it) offer them, and I don't believe their academic reputations have suffered one iota (at least in the minds of the general public) asby min - Other Sports
Re: 2010 NCAA Tournament selections - 14 years ago
The amount of manipulation is obviously in the eye of the beholder, but my concern is more about precedence setting. As many of you have pointed out, for the first time in years (maybe ever) the committee has ZERO intra-conference games in the first round, and what did they do? They had to mess with it. So we have #8 plays #12, #5 plays #9, and etc.by min - Hockey

Re: Opinion Piece: A Little Perspective - 14 years ago
Josh '99 Jeff Hopkins '82 nshapiroSounds like you are describing 1980. Underperformed all year...squeaked into ECAC playoffs (when 8 out of 17 made playoffs)...Won ECAC Tourney, and lost NCAA semi-final and consolation (when NCAAs had 4 teams). That's what I thought of, too. But for me, that playoff run reminds me of harassing Bob Gaudet. In Boston, he tried to wing a puck at us during warby min - Hockey
Re: Other Scores, Sunday 3/7 - 14 years ago
Trotsky For anyone unaware, the Cornell women beat Clarkson in overtime tonight to win their first ECAC championship. Thanks for the lead. I don't follow the women's game, but looking at the box scores of both SF and F gave me pause. In both instances Cornell gave up 3 unanswered goals late in the game: in the SF, that allowed RPI to cut Cornell's lead to one goal, and in the final, that allby min - Hockey

Re: Miami 3, BU 4, Final - 15 years ago
billhoward Miami's appearance in the final four is a reminder of how hard it will be for Cornell to win that third NCAA hockey title. what's the over/under (in number of years) before that happens? anybody got a reliable crystal ball, or a mathematical model that works?by min - Hockey
Re: Speed Game - 15 years ago
srg1The Cornell team overall is a poor skating team and pretty short on talent. Is poor skating one of the team's problems? Doesn't Cornell own one of those few skating treadmills in the country? (I seem to remember watching a video about it). In any case, I'm not disagreeing with you, but was just wondering.by min - Hockey
Re: NCAA Regional Final: Cornell (1) vs. Bemidji (4) - FINAL - 15 years ago
very disappointing end to the season. it's like last week's ECAC games all over again. i realize that the team has problem scoring, but why can't cornell play consistently for two nights in a row?by min - Hockey
Re: Good Luck, Cornell! - 15 years ago
Thanks for the good wishes, too. I hope that the two schools can arrange a home-and-home series in the future. I have no proof, but I think there is enough good will and/or interest among the fans of both schools. According to the records kept by our de facto historian (TBRW), Wisconsin has never visited Lynah, and Cornell never returned to Madison after two NC games in Dec 86. Did somethingby min - Hockey
Re: Bemidji State - 15 years ago
Bemidji's KRACH rating is 83.81, while Cornell's is 210.4. So using this method, Cornell is expected to win about 70% of the time in a one-game series (please double check math). BSU isn't even figured in the Pairwise tables. Given so many "upsets" in the tournament this year, I am not sure if this is useful information. BTW, the upsets that weren't really upsets according to KRACby min - Hockey

abmarksminNeedless to say, someone please (please!) post the last two goals on the internet! I was one of those justin.tv casualties who missed the entire 3rd period and had to listen to those awful NU announcers... Thank God it was worth it. Re: Northeastern - 15 years ago
I am no coach, but I am guessing that Northeastern will try its best NOT to play Cornell's style of hockey when the two teams meet on Saturday. It's pretty obvious that every team from here on out will try to play Cornell the way Yale did in the ECAC final. Let's hope that coach Schafer has made the necessary defensive rearrangements and that our players are mentally and physically prepared comeby min - Hockey

As an eternal infracaninophile in neutral games, I wanted Notre Dame to upset Michigan. But after watching how the Wolverines fought back from 0-3 to 3-3, I find it hard not to like their team play and spirit. It's tied 4-4 after three periods. update: Notre Dame wins in OT.by min - Hockey
