Re: Goalie size? - 18 years ago
Actually I've sometimes wondered... is there any sort of restriction at all? Like, does the goalie have to be able to skate without help? Cause every once in a while we see these 600 lb guys on Jerry Springer or whatever who can't even get out of their bed without help. I wonder if there'd be anything wrong (from rule standpoint, ethics and all that aside) from having the team just drag them iby ftyuv - Hockey
Re: NC game - 18 years ago
jy3ftyuvThat last post hit would make me cry if I were a BC fan/player. A cm to the left, it would have gone in. Half a cm, it would have bounced enough towards the center to bounce off Elliott's back and go in. As far as sports go, I don't think tough breaks get much tougher than that. well having a goal that was a true goal not called a goal is tougher. wow, that was an interesting sentencby ftyuv - Hockey

Re: Attendance - 18 years ago
KeithKftyuvGames that go on during break don't look sold out. Other than that, considering that there's always people outside Lynah trying to buy spare tickets, I'd guess the 100% figure is pretty much on.But the break games are listed as sellouts. the attendance stats show perfect attendance for the season (tickets sold anyway). Or, right before the coaches come out, just put a clipboard on the bench with a note stuck on, "Throw me. It helps." Is there any sort of rule against that?by ftyuv - Hockey
Re: Captains / Assistants For Next year?? - 18 years ago
I agree with those picks (I could see switching Bitz and McC, but I don't really know enough to argue the point), and I'll also add that I think next year's leadership is going to be really good. We have a number of high-energy, inspirational people, especially on the offense. Hopefully it'll lead to a few more creative plays (especially on the PP) and better finishings. Re: How crazy would this have been? - 18 years ago
And also, how much experience with a regular stick does he have? If it's not much, as I suspect, that could lead to him missing a lot of passes, which in turn would mean a lot of turnovers, which in turn would mean our players would have to spend a lot more time chasing UW down the ice and getting even more tired. So even from a freshness point of view, it could backfire. Now, if Schafer madby ftyuv - Hockey
Re: Anyone going to the FF? (committee stupidity) - 18 years ago
I thought they're allowed to futz around with things a little bit, as long as they keep the same 16 teams and in more or less the right order. Like, if they want to bump up attendance or something, I thought they're allowed that wiggle room.by ftyuv - Hockey
Re: Don't worry, Harvard still... - 18 years ago
Another way of saying the same thing: Harvard made their ECAC tourney win look like a fluke; We made our loss seem like a fluke and redeemed ourselves against the nation's top-ranked team. I think many of us seem to be in agreement that, even though we lost this last game, we ended our season on probably our best note. That's the taste that's going to linger (mmm mixed metaphors), and it's thby ftyuv - Hockey

Re: Cornell-Harvard ECAC title post-game thread - 18 years ago
From what I saw on TV, it looked like Harvard was just playing a much cleaner, more efficient, machine-like game. When they passed the puck, it always landed on someone's stick, and that person would take it up without a pause. Whenever we passed it, the catcher almost always looked like he had to reach to even get to the puck, then had to stickhandle for a bit to get control of it. It cost usby ftyuv - Hockey

Re: NYC viewing? - 18 years ago
Yikes, the idea of a minimum drink cover doesn't appeal to me -- I'm just a lowly undergrad trying to save money. Anyway if other people plan to be there and there's not a high cover (including minimum drinks), I'll be there. I'd rather not be the one to set something up, though, cause I suck at negotiations (in case we'd need to).by ftyuv - Hockey
Re: NYC viewing? - 18 years ago
Sorry for the bump, but... did any viewing parties end up happening? I just got into the city, and there's a good chance I'll be free tomorrow evening. I'd love to sit down at some bar with some fellow Cornellians to watch the game. I'm a proud Masshole, so Red Sox-friendly bars are okay by me LGR!by ftyuv - Hockey

BigRedBrouhahalas224What a terrible article. First of all, I can't believe how much he rips on Olivia (new sports editor). At the risk of sounding like a crazy feminist, I can't believe there was discussion of her not being a good choice just because she's female. And second... he plays sprint football and then says that we're wasting our time reading eLynah? I can't believe this guy waby ftyuv - Hockey

Re: Disappointment with faithful? - 18 years ago
Given how we tend to play against bad teams, I'm not even sure if we want that top seeding . But yeah, I think people were thinking more about how Sucks sucks than about how the rankings play out. Then again, if it means that we're already psyched up for tomorrow, maybe it's a good thing. Re: OT: speed skating - 18 years ago
Are we really sure that's true though? After all, on skis there's more than just simple friction stuff going on. As the skis press down on the snow, they melt it a bit (actually, I think I read a study that claims it's not exactly melted; the atoms bounce up-down more than side-side, whereas in a liquid they'd move around randomly). Although the total normal force you exert down is the same,by ftyuv - Hockey
Re: XX Olympic Games - Curling TV Schedule - 18 years ago
I was going to start a thread about this, but I'll just sneak it in here. I just saw a bit of curling on the TV, and I'm not sure I understand why there are separate men's and women's team. For many sports, I understand the basic idea -- guys can get bigger and stronger than girls, generally, so it'd be unfair to match them together. But from what I can tell of curling, it's a game that dealsby ftyuv - Other Sports

To be fair, we regularly swear (see ya asshole, you goon... fuck 'em up, let's go red, bullshit, etc) and get away with it en masse, one or two unfortunate quota-victims aside. I think there's a bit of pot-kettle-black with us telling another group of fans (and I include bands in that) how to act well. Re: illegal ticket sale on ebay - 18 years ago
Ken '70: I'm no lawyer, but it seems to me that the problem with your analysis is that it simply doesn't apply with respect to Cornell taking any action. They can -- and it's written in plain English on the back of the tickets -- take away your ticket for any reason they want. So if they don't like this ebay dude scalping, they have the right to ask eBay to cancel the sale -- and I don't knowby ftyuv - Hockey
Re: illegal ticket sale on ebay - 18 years ago
I believe GWB and his unary executive theory have made it clear that activist judges should have no role in interpreting laws or the constitution. So unless Bush signs an order to send the scalper to Gitmo, the sale is as legal as, say, the surveillance by which Bush would have heard about it.by ftyuv - Hockey

Re: THIS HAS GOT TO BE ADDED TO OUR STAPLE CHEERS - 18 years ago
I don't have the history a lot of people on this board do, but in my short couple years here, I've come to look forward to Colgate games as some of my favorites. Their team is good and seems to play a pretty clean, hard game. Throw in that they're travel partners and have been good over the last couple years, and they've got this newbie/facetimer's vote for a fun rivalry. I think if Harvard weby ftyuv - Hockey
Re: Lynah: Cornell 4 Colgate 1 Postgame - 18 years ago
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I'm a little relieved about Colgate's goal. Sure, a shutout would have been nice; but we have an annoying habit of kicking ass one night and then going into the next night assuming a win and then losing. Hopefully the Colgate goal will shake our guys up enough to help them realize that just cause they won, doesn't mean they can't go out tomorrowby ftyuv - Hockey
