Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - polls 4/22 - 7 days ago
BearLover Cornell hockey won the ECAC and qualified for the NCAAs this season in large part because they didn’t have to beat anybody especially good on their way to the title. So what. We'd have had a better shot at winning the whole thing if we'd learned from (and beat).much better teams. You want a lottery ticket. I'd rather have a much stronger chance of winning the rhing5by abmarks - Other Sports

Bearlover: since he got the job, I think your question about why Princeton but not Cornell HC is a good, and relevant one. Be interesting to see if any info slips out on this over time. Or maybe when Adam said syer would not be a Cornell HC, he already knew just how likely syer was to land the Princeton job. That seems the most likely explanation of Adam's emphatic statement.by abmarks - Hockey

BearLover abmarks chimpfood CHN has syer as a finalist for the Princeton head coaching job. Leave a link next time? For those of you looking, its at Also, it doesn't exactly say he's a finalist. It says " Among those who have interviewed, or were expected to, are Cornell assistant Ben Syer, Michigan assistant Rob Rassey, and Arizona State assistant Dana Borges" Re: bearloby abmarks - Hockey

BearLover pjd8 jtwcornell91 Trotsky I knew about the 5th year. But I thought it had to do time lost to COVID. Not counting time played during COVID is seriously weird to me. I may just have mentally blocked it out as absurd, like MLB extra innings a d professional allowed in the Olympics. I did not know that either, but then I've paid less attention to college hockey in the past few years.by abmarks - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 28 days ago
Trotsky I did not know that. Yikes. Due respect man, but how the F did you not know that?* Meme posts and crank aside, you're pretty knowledgeable and lucid (most of the time). *Possible exception if your browser extension that blocks you from seeing any bearlover posts just broke down, and this is the first time the 5th year rant got throughby abmarks - Hockey

Couple of related items from the athletic. From an article listing the top potential free agents. Broken down into categories by potential impact in NHL. In the category of "Long shot to play games" 27. Dalton Bancroft, RW, Cornell-ECAC Bancroft is a strong-skating winger with a decent-sized frame. Re: NCAA QF - Denver - 28 days ago
Trotsky DLOne bad penalty and one shitty call while playing a side stuffed with talent is probably all that separates any quality team on any given year from taking the crown. I would add one puck bounce. So many games are decided by fluke events. Great teams can only put themselves into position where those events cut their leads rather than costing them their leads. This!!! Winning aby abmarks - Hockey

RichH But those memories are often washed out and faded deeply by the heartbreak and gut-punches that all happened a day or two later. But we had good times there for the regional stay. Frustrating that the feeling is always so fleeting. This quote needs to be held at the ready for these eventual situations: Next time we finally win a QF game and then lose the Semi. Except the heartbreak andby abmarks - Hockey

BearLover Dafatone BearLover I guess I’m just kind of tired of it. “The future is bright.” “This freshman class is gonna be really special.” “Cornell will be the favorite in the ECAC next season.” That’s all well and good but at some point you actually have to win. It took a crazy series of events for us to end up in the NCAA quarterfinals with a great chance to win, but we DID end up there, andby abmarks - Hockey

ugarte scoop85 On the DU goal the puck skittered past a couple of our guys near the blue line and their guy got off a great wrister. I still liked our game.i agree with RichH that it took us a few minutes to get going but we had the better of that period. we are ruining their structure on offense and they don't seem comfortable with the pressure we're putting on their defense. lot of hockey to plby abmarks - Hockey

Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 5 weeks ago
for all this talk of smaller rinks wanting regionals more, if memory serves, there's been decent to excellent ticket historically for regionals in Manchester, Providence and Worcester, all of which are well north of the 5k seat mark. Granted attendance would vary depending upon how many of the local schools are playing there, but those have to be better venue choices than 3k-5k seat rinks, andby abmarks - Hockey

Trotsky jtwcornell91Now that they're doing the regionals on Thursday-Saturday and Friday-Sunday, couldn't one site bid to host both regionals? This is actually brilliant. Only downsides I can imagine would be finding enough practice facilities for 8 teams plus enough hotel blocksby abmarks - Hockey

Swampy Iceberg I find it crazy that the committee or whoever is responsible couldn't find another site in the midwestern US. There has to be a ton of better arenas willing to do this event at a tolerable cost. I think it has to do with who the host(s) is (are). In this case, the Midwest Regional is hosted by Lindenwood University and the St. Louis Sports Commission. What's even more surprisiby abmarks - Hockey
