Re: How good are the Patriots? - 19 years ago
The Eagles aren't modeled after the Patriots at all, and the only thing about the Patriots that the Eagles want to become is that they are defending Super Bowl champs. The Eagles actually have been in the playoffs each of the past five seasons; the Pats have only made it in three of those seasons. So by that measure, you could say that the Eagles have been successful longer than the Patriots haveby cornelldavy - Hockey

Red Man Wrote: They might be trying to become the Patriots but they are not there. Not even close. Um, wouldn't the fact that they're playing the Patriots in the Super Bowl indicate that they are at least close? And say what you will about end zone celebrations, but the Eagles have exhibited great team football all season. Since there's already a thread about hockey in California, I might as well give my team a plug... If you're in the Bay Area, UCLA is playing Stanford on Friday and Saturday night at 8:00 at Belmont Iceland, 815 Old County Road, Belmont, CA 94002. If you go, root for UCLA...there's a Cornell grad on the team.by cornelldavy - Hockey
Everblades in Philly - 19 years ago
Sorry everyone, I know this kind of thread has been beaten to death, but is anyone watching the game or does anyone want to get together to watch the game in Philly? In my area, Comcast doesn't have CSTV so a bar with DirecTV is the only option. -Alexby cornelldavy - Hockey

Greg Hornby was picked up by the Florida Everblades and played his first professional game last night...the Everblades lost to Idaho, 3-2, and Hornby was -1 with 2 SOG...but more importantly, he picked up a pair of fighting majors...nice to see he hasn't skipped a beat.by cornelldavy - Hockey

As I said, the point wasn't to make excuses or defend the quality of The Sun. Everyone associated with the paper wants it to be better than it is. The point was just to show (and yes, perhaps to vent some frustration about) that The Sun's sports section only gets noticed here when something isn't right. True, maybe I do take it a little too personally. Maybe I should just be satisfied with the maby cornelldavy - Hockey

Suggesting that the sports editors are paid for their time, while technically true, is completely misleading. They make $500 a year while working roughly 30 hours a week. Over the course of a year, it probably averages out to less than a dollar per hour of work. On top of that, they don't see any of that money until at least a couple months after the school year ends. Good point...I guess I was thinking of when I dressed in there for campus tournament games, pe class, intramurals, etc...and in those occasions, we didn't have a full 20-man roster of 6-foot-plus guys...I was always tempted to leave a message on the chalkboard in there after skating on Saturday morning.by cornelldavy - Hockey
Re: Penn hockey history on USCHO - 19 years ago
Growing up 15 minutes from Penn, my high school hockey team used to practice at Class of '23 rink, and as far as rinks in the Philly area go, it's pretty decent. I can't think of another nearby rink offhand (not counting the Wachovia Center and Spectrum) that seats more, and as a player, I appreciated that the locker rooms are nice and big (way bigger than the visitors' room at Lynah).
