Re: Opponent News 19-20 - 4 years ago
Interesting: Tonight in HEA and B10, the PWR favorites went 0-5-1, including losses by #5 BC, #6 OSU, #8 UMass, and #9 PSU. The only favorite not to lose was #49 Merrimack tying #50 UVM.by Robb - Hockey

Re: Polls 2019-20 - 4 years ago
Well, this will be an interesting test case. Assuming that today’s ASU/Brown game doesn’t somehow cost us more than .0033 in RPI, we’ll be #1 in PWR when this week’s ballots are submitted. We sure didn’t pick up any style points, though (dropped to 3rd in KRACH) so I think we’ll learn something about how many voters (if any) just vote straight PWR.by Robb - Hockey

Not sure where else to put this, but just perusing the stats this morning, and I continue to be in awe of Cornell's D. 19 goals allowed this season in 14 games - but 11 of those were power play goals against. 8 even-strength goals allowed in 14 games is ridiculous. That's darn near allowing an even strength goal only once every other game. And sure, it's not been against that hardest SOS,by Robb - Hockey

While we're at it, thanks for putting up KRACH, even though Cornell is shown with an infinite rating. When did Whelan give up on the fictitious games? I know I've had discussions with him in the past where he vociferously defended including it, even up to the end of the season when the sample size is merely tiny and not infinitesimal. Just curious.by Robb - Hockey

JasonN95 For lack of a better place to put this, I’ll add it here: This weekend was a bloodbath for the league. 2-8-1 in non-conference games versus non-conference foes by my count (the other win was Q over UMass Amherst). We (the ECAC) also are now the proud owners of 6 of the bottom 9 slots is USCHO’s KRACH. I was wondering who was tempting the Hockey Gods....then I realized who it was. Nice to see you, Mark! What a lot of people are missing with this year's Cornell team is the defensive strength - it's masked by our gaudy offensive numbers and our lousy PK percentage (77%). Even strength, we've only given up 5 goals in 8 games. If we had a top 20 kill (85%), our GAA would be 1.25. Top 10 (90%by Robb - Hockey

Jim Hyla Trotsky andyw2100 Anyone think we may move to first place in one or both polls this week as a result of beating stronger teams than the team Minnesota State beat twice? I suspect even if we win out through New Year's Day including against an otherwise undefeated Harvard team we will still be behind Mankato until they stumble. That's life in the ECAC. scoop85 JasonN95 It was great to see that Galajda could deliver a blue chip performance when the team needed it. Not a lot of saves but some were stellar. Now let’s not have to see that again. Who would have thought the team would be 7-0 and Galajda would not have a shutout. Good point. This is a strange feeling. Normally after a win, and especially after a weekend sweep, I’m banging the refresh button on the PWR and KRACH pages like a coked out lab rat, just to see how much we climbed. Right now, when we’re #1 in everything, it almost takes some of the joy....nah, can’t say it with a straight face. THIS IS AWESOME!by Robb - Hockey

upprdeck if we can keep up the volume of quality chances thats a good thing.Hint: we can't. I think this year could be something very special, but for me, I still haven't seen any actual evidence for that yet. Let's be honest, MSU, Brown, and Yale just aren't going to be competitive this year. Let's keep the over-exuberance in check for a few more weeks, at least.by Robb - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 RichH jtwcornell91 Two things irritate me about Buccigross: First, his rising and falling inflection makes it sound like every play was almost a goal, but turned into a disappointing near miss. Second, like many ESPN commentators, he's addicted to catch phrases: every wrist shot for a goal is a "twisted wrister". Watching ND-UMass, I hear it now. Every shot is a SHOTby Robb - Hockey
