Trotsky Swampy Princeton & Quinnipiac are playing tonight at 7:00 PM (1/18). Should be on ESPN+. Let's hope they go to quadruple OT. Q has 35 shots and a 6-0 lead. After 2.Now 7-0, with 7 different goal scorers.by Robb - Hockey

At this point, I would be extremely disappointed to finish behind any team not named Q (gag), Clarkson, or Harvard. None of the other teams look poised to grab that last first-round bye. That said - long ways to go.by Robb - Hockey
Re: Red Hot Hockey "Presale" - 2 years ago
billhoward At some point, alumni with less of their undergraduate passion for hockey would be happier with MSG hockey that isn't every year (whether BU for RHH or Penn State, Harvard, etcetera in off years). Cornell-BU every three years might be okay. It hurts that Cornell-Columbia is now the final football game so when it's played in NYC, there are two promoted events in mid-late November tryingby Robb - Hockey

arugula On the legacy point, I was always under the impression that legacy was only meaningful if the parent alumnus also wrote a big check, like 6 figures big. Anyone have any insight?I went to a dinner for legacies back when I was an undergrad in the early 90s. At that, a university official (I don’t recall if alumni relations or admissions or what) alleged that 90% of legacies would have beenby Robb - Other Sports

Ken711 billhoward site lays odds on football coaches being fired (lower +number is higher odds of it happening) and our Mr. Archer is not among them. Most likely to depart is Dan Mullen from Florida; Dino Babers of Syracuse also makes the top 10. I suspect the bookies only track NCAA Division (Serious) I. Rita my niece is now a freshman in high school and is starting to look at colleges. I had lunch with her yesterday and it was a rare day when a teenager was in a chatty mood. She has been researching colleges in the northeast and has been checking out the IVY league schools. she wanted to know what was up with Cornell, the gorges and suicides. oh dear. Trotsky I am surprised. Congratulations! NOW COME BACK! (Narrator: He did not come back.) My god, though. If he did. Kaldis is huge, and Malott and Bauld will hurt some, but we are loaded. upprdeck really surprised with all the penalties they didnt call any of the pushes on the few faceoffs we were coming out with and that just added to the issues getting the ball sloppy 4th when we had the game put away.Terrible/questionable clock management and shot selection, too. 5 min left, up by 4, and you’re gonna throw an unscreened ball into the keeper’s breadbasket (no chance of a rebby Robb - Other Sports

Swampy Cop at Lynah That's a very outdated document, it doesn't even have Galadja's freshman season shutout streak which was longer than the one that ended last night. It seems to be c.2009. But how can a document like that not have a date of publication?Oops!! And why would that be the version that came up when I googled for it? Someone must’ve made a ton of links to that one or something.by Robb - Hockey
Re: 2020-02-29: Cornell vs Clarkson - 4 years ago
Cop at Lynah Galajda's shutout streak was the 6th longest in CU hockey history according to Grady & TopherHmm. The NCAA record book (lower left on page 6) doesn’t seem to know about those other 5. According to their list, 202 minutes would be #10 all-time, and best ever for Cornell. What gives? If TBRW (which I really, really appreciate!) tracks shutout streaks, I could not find it.by Robb - Hockey
Re: Would this help recruiting? NCAA Permit Athletes to Profit - 4 years ago
ajh258 Jim Hyla ajh258 All the team has to do is take the revenue they make from merchandise and attribute it to players' likeness. That money used to go to the team and cannot be directly used to subsidize tuition and school costs due to Ivy League rules while the other schools have been doing it for years. $50k tuition x 30 players = $1.5m to completely cover athletes' cost of attendance.by Robb - Hockey
Re: Zamboni Gig in Toronto has Perks - 4 years ago
That gives a rather perverse incentive. You’re winning 3-1, goalie goes down. You come in the game and your team goes up 4-1. You now have an incentive to let the other team score 2, so that your 4th goal becomes the winning goal. Strange.by Robb - Hockey
Re: Polls 2019-20 - 4 years ago
Right, but it’s not the insularity that creates the disparity in SOS numbers. If you had two insular groups, their average records would both be .500 (within the group). Then, if a single game is played where a random team from group A beats a team from group B, then suddenly KRACH will tell you that every team in A is better than every team in B. There’s a little more east-west crossover thanby Robb - Hockey

BearLover (Though, @Robb and @Tom Lento, why wouldn't each team have a 100% chance of finishing in exactly its current spot if what you are saying is true? It bothers the ever loving hell out of me when they're called that.Ok, but to be *really* pedantic, I wouldn’t necessarily call a KRACH-based Monte Carlo simulation a “prediction” either. Re: 2020-01-25: Cornell vs Harvard - 4 years ago
BearLover Cornell was indeed lucky to come out with the tie. Harvard played such aggressive D, especially on the PK, and Cornell was unable to thread the needle on its passes in the little time and space Harvard gave them. I actually thought Cornell played well defensively and limited the chances of Harvard's dangerous offense, but repeated errant passes killed any chance at setting up the cycle,by Robb - Hockey
