Re: Winningest Ivy schools: Princeton, Harvard, Penn, Cornell - 1 year ago
Trotsky Cornell and Dartmouth didn't build 60k seat football stadiums because they are in located in Nunavut, not because of relative commitment. As good of a place as any to trot out a fact I once heard (but could not verify just now with a quick google): when it was built in 1914, the Yale Bowl (70,896) was the first stadium to exceed the seating capacity of the Roman Colosseum (~50,000).by Robb - Other Sports

Yes, a better model would be a ton of work. What if Wayne Gretzky, Jr was on a team, but injured for the first 20 games of the season and the team went .500. Since he got back, he’s averaging 2.5 points per game and the team is undefeated. Where would your “better” model rank them headed into the playoffs? Maybe the team hired a better strength and conditioning coach halfway through the seasoby Robb - Hockey
Re: Union @ Cornell - 1 year ago
I was late to start watching; when I clicked it on, it was 1-0 and the refs were conferring to decide if there had been a major penalty. What a sequence- Union’s feet were just stuck in the mud as Cornell skated by at will for the full 5 min.by Robb - Hockey

KenP Even if we won that last, all-important game I'd still say Maryland is the better team overall and deserving of #1 in the polls. Absolutely. Check out MD's box scores for the season - ahead of PSU by 18-3 after 3, ahead of JHU by 22-4 after 3. We didn't do that kind of damage to the likes of Hobart and Lehigh, not to mention our one-goal squeaker over that very same PSU team. In the mby Robb - Other Sports

CAS I used one objective measure (high SAT scores) for a recent class (2023) to demonstrate that a substantial increase in the number of applicants may bring more qualified applicants (not uncompetitive ones).Sorry, but you did no such thing. You provided two independent facts: the average SAT scores for the class of 23, and the fact that 4 years later the class of 27 has 45% more applicants.by Robb - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Cornell admissions - 2 years ago
David Harding Robb CAS I disagree with Robb that the tremendous increase in applicants are of students who generally aren’t that outstanding. CAS Ahh, the good old days that I remember. Cornell posts admission stats dating back to 1980. The total number of applications received this year are up over 300% compared to 1980 (71K vs 17K), while the total number of admits is actually down 10% this year vs 1980 (4,908 vs 5,456).
