Re: Estero 2015 - 8 years ago
I was going to respond by saying that beating OSU would help us in the Pairwise by possibly giving us Common Opponents against teams like Michigan and Minnesota. But then I remembered that since PWR only has three components now (RPI, COp, H2H) this is pretty much useless (because RPI is the tiebreaker). So nevermind. Just win.by KeithK - Hockey

Beeeej Trotsky Jim Hyla Trotsky The last season we had one or fewer losses after 12 games was 1973. Re: What's going on with this year's team? - 8 years ago
Trotsky Swampy Dafatone All of the above! We have better shooters/finishers, and we had a class of relatively terrible finishers leave. Certainly, there's some luck to it as well. 88.1% is terrible, but 92.9% was great. To back this up, our top three in shot percentage are Angello (33.3%) Clearly we just need Angello to take 21 shots per game... T o achieve that we could just get rid ofby KeithK - Hockey
Re: What's going on with this year's team? - 8 years ago
Tom Lento I'd be pleasantly surprised if this team finished the regular season with 20+ wins. Not shocked, because they started so hot, but surprised. I would not be surprised if this team finished with 16 wins. That might feel like failure after this start, but it's in line with a solid season given early expectations, and frankly it seems more in line with the run of play this team has had thusby KeithK - Hockey
Re: What's going on with this year's team? - 8 years ago
I think the takeaway from the stats you're presenting is that we've overachieved somewhat. Considering what we expected from this squad that's almost certainly true. I wouldn't take the results so far to mean that we are a true talent top 10 team (yet). How we do in the second half will depend on how quickly the guys get healthy and how the younger players continue to develop. One thing: I susby KeithK - Hockey
Re: ECAC 2015-16 - 8 years ago
Trotsky There's been so much attention to the ECAC's performance at the top of PWR that it may be neglected that we have no "bottom feeder" teams, at least so far. Typically even in years where there have been two or three top ranked ECAC teams, we have also had teams in the mid to lower 50s. Not this year. The worst PWR for an ECAC team today is 42. RichH Also, we've looked very TIRED in the 3rd periods. Big time luck, great shot-blocking/Goaltending and no way I think we're top 10 *YET*. I agree. Hopefully being tired is just a matter of health. We may be playing a full eighteen skaters every game but I bet some of them aren't 100%.by KeithK - Hockey
Re: SLU - 8 years ago
andyw2100 So the play on the ice is ruled a no-goal, and no penalty is called. But after reviewing the play the refs decide to award a penalty shot. I had no idea they could do that. From the radio broadcast it sounded like they had decided to award a penalty shot before going in to look at the video to determine whether a goal had been scored.by KeithK - Hockey
Re: SLU - 8 years ago
The box lists the Bliss penalty that led to the penalty shot as "Handling Puck with Hands". I think I know what happened (he covered the puck in the crease) but I don't think I've ever heard that term before. Am I just clueless?by KeithK - Hockey
Re: SLU - 8 years ago
marty BearLover St. Lawrence pulled its goalie at least a minute later than it was supposed to. ¿Where is the goal pulling rule found? Are you pulling my leg or....? Hayton went off with only 36 seconds to go. From the radio it didn't sound like we pinned him in net by controlling the puck either. That's probably 30-60 seconds later than typical I think.by KeithK - Hockey

Jim Hyla A-19 just wanted to make sure everyone was aware that you can buy game-worn "normal" jerseys from the athletic department. when i got mine it was only $100 but the prices may have gone up in the past few years? anyway, they usually sell out really fast, but they're available at the very start of each year i know jim loves the special edition jerseys.. Re: B1G Age Restrictions - 8 years ago
Al DeFlorio Trotsky I did not follow how the age restriction would benefit the B1G.According to this piece: " Big Ten programs typically recruit younger players rather than those who enter school at 21 or 22 after playing in junior leagues like the USHL." Convincing? Dunno. The big name programs have an advantage in recruiting blue chippers, who usually commit younger if theyby KeithK - Hockey

BearLover We have so many injuries now that, I think, last year's team (with a smaller roster than this one) wouldn't have even had enough players to fill out a lineup. There are always enough players to fill out the lineup even if you have to call on Damian Rocke.by KeithK - Hockey

RichH Anybody hear what happened to Hilbrich? Saw him early, but I don't think he played from at least the 2nd on. From the radio broadcast he went awkwardly into the boards sometime in the second. After making it back to the bench he went to the locker room with the trainer and I don't think he returned. No furher update during the broadcast. Trotsky David HardingWho do we displace? My impression is that rising in the polls is more about teams immediately above you slipping. After New Year's definitely. Re: "Fighting Sioux" nickname may [not] [may too] stick at N Dakota - 8 years ago
jtwcornell91 Dafatone Jeff Hopkins '82 God, not another "XXX Hawks" nickname. It's lame, unoriginal, AND doesn't really shake native appropriation the way roughriders would. My guess is that some of the people who voted for that did so because it contains the word "Fighting" and they plan to shout "SIOUX!" over the PA announcer when he/she says "Hawks"by KeithK - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs Quinnipiac, Saturday - 8 years ago
Trotsky Is Tschantz hurt? I feel like his particular style would work well in this more up tempo offense. I thought I read somewhee that due to injuries and illness the squad was down to a bare minimum of forwards. If so then that would imply that Tschantz is in fact hurt.
