Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
Trotsky 3. The particular contour of this year, an amazing start and then a long, depressing collapse, left everybody with a bad taste in their mouth. I think this is the biggest factor. If we had been miserable in the fall, going 0-5-2 in November, and then had a great send half and ended up with the same record/position I think people would feel a lot more positively about the team. BearLover It should be noted that despite my displeasure with the past few years, I like Schafer. I want to see him win; part of the reason I pull so strongly for Cornell is because I think he deserves it. He means a lot to Cornell Hockey--and that only makes the recent mediocre seasons tougher to swallow. It's not mutually exclusive, however, for him to also not be the best coach for the progby KeithK - Hockey

BearLover Chris '03Rising tide lifts all boats, etc. This has been debated ad nauseam, but now we have some more data points, so I'll ask again: how has this "rising tide" lifted Cornell's boat? Our best teams, and our best chances at winning an ECAC and national championship, were when the conference was bad. There's nothing to suggest our talent is better now, and we're clearly makiby KeithK - Hockey

redice Swampy Al DeFlorio Trotsky Northeastern did win. Stupid BC can't even win when they're supposed to. Strange season for Northeastern--the polar opposite of Cornell's. Started the year 2-12-3, since then 19-1-2 going into the Hockey East championship game tonight. Working on a 12-game winning streak now. Sounds like good coaching to me. billhoward Has this ever happened before - an All-ECAC hockey team (1st team, 2nd team, 3rd or HM; all-rookie) had no one from Cornell? I don't know and I'm too lazy to research it. But I can't imagine we had much of a showing in '93.by KeithK - Hockey

Trotsky At the risk of being hall monitor, I agree with Keith. Please post politics elsewhere -- might I recommend any of dozens (hundreds) of USCHO threads. Feel free to keep it among friends. Trotsky ugarte Trotsky ugarte I trust that people have run the numbers but how does MTU, who is just ahead of is in PWR, beating Ferris help us?My guess is it's the only way to ensure MTU doesn't steal an at large by remaining ahead of us. If they lose but stay ahead of us then the WCHA gets the auto and we lose a slot to MTU. Give the auto to MTU and the problem goes away. Times fixed; thanby KeithK - Hockey

RichH css228 Simple. I'm not judging us by our record. I'm judging us by our 49% CF in close situations. Good teams are positive possession teams. If you are under 50% possession you are mediocre. I respect that you value the advanced metrics. However, I feel that at this level with such a large disparity and range in skill, these metrics just aren't as useful as they probably are in the NHL. Re: Do we need a housecleaning in the athletics dept? - 8 years ago
Ken711 My understanding is they will be working on a long-range plan for the west stands site with the expectation that there will be stands constructed over a mixed-used athletic space housing a weight-room, locker room and athletic offices. If so that sounds like a better long term use for the space than just making the existing stands usable. But it also sounds like something that will take tby KeithK - Other Sports
Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
Jim Hyla A while ago I asked if finding the great coach was so easy, then which of the ECAC school's coaches would fit that profile? People complain & complain, but no one can come with a group of coaches that they would like. Complain if you like, but if you can't show me that list, then maybe it's a lot harder to get that coach. I suspect certain folks would point to the jackass in Hamden oby KeithK - Hockey

BearLoverSo I'm not content not being awesome. If we're perpetually mediocre, I'll find some other hobbies to fill this time. I think this gets to the heart of some of the disagreement here. For me, and I think some of the folks here, being a fan means supporting the team through hell and high water. marty There were 50+ other schools that didn't find the Ghost, too. Leaman or whoever found him was the key. That person saw potential that tens of recruiters missed. How the hell do you bottle that? The same recruiter, Leaman or Bennett or whoever, might be exceptional in that regard but maybe just lucky too. You can't use one player to say whether recruiting is good or bad. TimV Swampy Assuming winning, tying, and losing are equally probable random events, the odds are in our favor for winning the next game. I may need a refresher in probability theory. RichHAnd judging from photos & reports from Lynah, Cornell's attendance numbers for the opening round may have been fudged. dbilmesI'm sure the games will be listed as sellouts, since almost every Q game I've gone to has been listed as a sellout, even though most of the time I have seen hundreds of fans disguised as empty seats. Trotsky Other than Wisconsin I'd just assume the entire B1G be buried at sea on the Great Lakes. But Minnesota should be set afire first, to, um, honor their heritage. I have nothing against Northwestern either. Not that they play hockey or anything.by KeithK - Hockey
Re: root for Upsets? - 8 years ago
andyw2100 Jim Hyla Yes, we have to root for Michigan to win the B1G. Michigan is almost in regardless. So if Minny wins, there goes another spot. Interestingly Minny is one spot behind us and yet can't get in unless they win out. I can't speak for anyone else, but you never have to ask me more than once to root against Minnesota. For me you never even have to ask...by KeithK - Hockey

ACM Trotsky KeithK If you can't find box score here on eLynah you can check . It has box scores going back at least a decade. Re: First round vs Union - 8 years ago
ugarte Game 1, 1-0 Cornell. I turned on the radio right after Holden Anderson scored. I'LL TAKE IT. My heart seized up when we iced the puck with under six seconds left and then again when we gave Union another offensive zone faceoff with under a second left. That's nothing compared to the 97 final. (Of course, you could change on icings then, but still.)by KeithK - Hockey
