Re: Cornell Men's Lacrosse 2015 - 9 years ago
Thanks, lads. I'm retired as a blowhard amateur fansplainer. These days folks can get all the college lacrosse news and punditry they want from the web and social media. But I do like that Pulver kid.by Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports

Re: Cornell sports injuries to key players - 12 years ago
The guy I think of when it comes to great Cornell athletes and tough season-ending injuries is guard Adam Gore, Ivy men's basketball Rookie of the Year in 2006ish (I think he broke Cornell's freshman scoring record). He tore an ACL in one knee early in his sophomore (?) season, then tore an ACL in his other knee early in his senior season. He could've been one of Cornell's best ever.by Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports

Two additional guys that I'd want to see on the list: Ralph Cox, F, New Hampshire (went toe-to-toe with Nethery when they matched up, and that's saying something) Ken Hammond, D, Rensselaer (best ECAC defenseman I ever saw)by Hillel Hoffmann - Hockey

Re: Cornell lacrosse in 2011 - 13 years ago
Speaking of hot-shot Princeton freshman middies, look out for Tom Schreiber from St. Anthony's. With his talent and Chris Bates' offensive philosophies, that young man might be set up to have a freshman year like no Ivy midfielder we've ever seen. Barring injuries, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get more than 60 points.by Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports

RichH LaxPower's bracket has the Cornell-ND game as being the late (6:30 pm) game. Looks like laxpower had it wrong. As of late this morning, the bracket at the NCAA's web site has Cornell-Notre Dame as the 4 p.m. game. Re: UnderArmour Lax All-Americans - 13 years ago
scoop85Who's Hogan? He's not listed in the Laxpower database. That would be John Hogan, a middie at St. Mary's (Annapolis, Md.). He's the son of Annapolis fixture Matt Hogan, who's wrapping up a nice run as coach of St. Mary's this year. People might remember him as coach at Pennsylvania for a year, a position he took after a long spell as an assistant at Navy.by Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports

SwampySten Jernudd...plays for Team Sweden (I guess being named "Sten" makes you eligible). That's a name that would make you eligible for Asgard, not just Team Sweden. Sten = stone; Jernudd = headland of iron. Some pretty solid players among the 2011 freshmen. A few Cornell lacrosse legacies (Entenmann, Lintner) and children of coaches (Hogan), as usual. Re: Only a "home run" offer takes Donahue away - 14 years ago
billhowardStill wondering if BC is a home run? The Boston College job is a 500' home run for someone like Donohue. Here's someone with a classic northeast suburban/urban Catholic background (Delaware County, Pennyslvania) who is offered a very big salary at one of the nation's premiere northeast suburban/urban Catholic institutions. And on top of that, it's in the nation's most iconic basketbalby Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports
Barry Leonard in NYT - 14 years ago
A nice story about Barry Leonard -- the voice of Cornell hoops, football and lacrosse -- was published in the New York Times today. The e-version even has an audio clip of his call of the final seconds of basketball's league-clinching win against Brown. Very happy for him. One of the many Ithaca College grads who've improved the Cornell sports experience. Thank you, Barry.by Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports

Al DeFlorio Hillel Hoffmann Jason Noble is the best freshman defender I have ever seen at Cornell. Instant impact. I bet he'll end up as a long pole, but given that Cornell's best defender (Derkac) already plays that position, they have got to find a spot for Noble. His quickness and ground ball instincts remind me of Ryan McClay. What a talent. Think Cornell will pole two Virginia middies tomorrby Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports

Jim HylaUnderage drinking is still illegal. Poor form. I'm not sure it's fair to apply US expectations (cultural or legal) about what constitutes "underage" to a Canadian team playing on Canadian soil. I think BC drinking age is either 18 or 19, right? If so, then I'm not sure any of those women were doing anything illegal (maybe Poulin?) -- just tacky.by Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports

Re: Cornell worst game of the decade - 14 years ago
DeltaOne81 jtwcornell91 Hillel Hoffmann So I vote for the 2008 Ohio State loss. It had all the ingredients to be the worst of any decade. A monster blowout. To an underdog team. At home. In the NCAA playoffs. Shit, it even had a painful signature play -- the coast-to-coast goal by their goalie -- that people still talk about and keeps getting replayed. That's hard to top. Was that also the yearby Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports
Re: Cornell worst game of the decade - 14 years ago
scoop85Here's my take: I was pissed after the OSU loss, but devastated after SU. I hear you. But for some reason I got over the SU loss pretty quickly. Maybe it was Seibald's statement at the press conference (mensch moment of the decade?). Whereas the OSU loss still pisses me off a year and a half later.by Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports
Re: Cornell worst game of the decade - 14 years ago
For all the joy Cornell lacrosse has brought to the '00s, they keep puking up some of the worst Cornell sports experiences ever. Seriously, you can come up with lax losses in the '00s that could win just about any worst-ever loss category: unexpected home NCAA playoff blowout losses (Ohio State 2008); underachieving teases (Massachusetts 2006), heartbreaking collapses on the cusp of a championshiby Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports
