Re: Not a goal? - 12 years ago
If the whistle was blown before the puck was in the net, even a fraction, it's no goal. As far as we know, Millan moved because he heard a whistle, and would have been better positioned for that split second if the play wasn't dead. Unfortunate, but far from unfair. The penalty calls were the bizarre part for me. Calling an extra minor off a faceoff, resulting in a 5 on 3 that leads to the openinby polar - Hockey

Pretty sure it's just based on proximity. The committee switched MD and Dartmouth from the pairwise rankings, and that seems to be it. Easier financially for both programs if the teams don't have to drive or fly 30 halfway across the country. I'm shocked that Mercyhurst ended up unranked though...by polar - Hockey

Go watch that second Brown goal. First, crazy acrobatic moves. Second, for the life of me I can't tell how the puck ends up from under Andy's body into the net. Does he accidentally kick it in? Does D'Agastino tip it? My guess is that Iles assumed the puck was already in the net, based on everyone else's reactions, and made a sloppy move. Al DeFlorio Josh '99 Al DeFlorio Three penalties taken in the offensive zone in the third period while nursing a one-goal lead at Lynah East is a perfect example. In the team's defense, two of those penalties were absolute joke calls. As a current undergrad, I was embarrassed by the fish and the water bottle, and this is exactly why: with a few notable exceptions, the loyal fans of sections G through N now look at the student section with distaste and disdain. Re: Rule Changes? - 13 years ago
Something I realized the other day while discussing the new rule changes. Recall the debate we had when BU pulled their goalie when they were up 5v3 vs. Cornell. One of the major risks is that, without icing, the defense has open reign to shoot at the open net. If icing also applies to penalty kills, suddenly pulling a goalie on a power play is much less risky.by polar - Hockey
Re: cornell 2 - Quinnipiac - 1 after 2 - 13 years ago
ebilmes Did we really not have any powerplays? When was the last time that happened? No penalties called for us, but there were certainly some questionable moments. At least two hits that looked very much like boarding in the second period left uncalled. There was also a slash, exactly like the one called against Princeton the night before, that drew no penalty. Jim Hyla KeithK Jim Hyla I don't think most of us would disagree with the initial ECACs being best of 3 at home sites. We think they are exciting and generally get the best teams, at the moment, to the semis. So why not for the NCAAs?
