Re: Are we that good? (Cornell after 10 games) - 15 years ago
"that good"? I don't think we are. Good, certainly, but we seem to get lucky a whole lot. Scrivens is certainly good, but he gets his breaks, and our offense often struggles. I sincerely hope this team goes far, but I don't think we're as dominant as our record suggests.by polar - Hockey

Re: Cornell football ambivalence - 15 years ago
I went to the cornell-penn game. After it was over I couldn't feel my fingers or feet. Honestly, if the team is going to play like they did in that game, no one is going to talk about them. Nobody wants to sit in 20-degree weather watching them stink up the field. It's the same reason no one talked about Cornell basketball before next year: they weren't good. Re: Who muzzled the band at Starr? - 15 years ago
If my memory is right, we didn't let them come last year at all. Because of the snow storm they only brought something like four instruments, and because thamusic track, Cornell band. Our playing time was t didn't constitute a full band, the staff didn't let them bring the instruments. I wasn't there, but if anything I'm happy they were actually able to bring their full band this year. So few othby polar - Hockey

Re: Recruit Updates - October 2007 - 15 years ago
In his first season at Cushing, (Sean Whitney)played in 29 games, scoring four goals and tallying 17 assists for 21 points. Whitney followed that up with 10 goals and 12 assists as a senior at Cushing, bringing his two-year total at the New England prep school to 14 goals and 19 assists. So do we finally have a sniper from the defensive position? Or is it too early to tell?by polar - Hockey

Re: Cornell's 2008-2009 ECAC Schedule - 15 years ago
someone was telling me over the weekend about the last time the U-18 team came to Cornell. Apparently one legendary heckler turned the "9:00 and you can't score" cheer into a five-minute ripping tirade on the fact that the entire team was underage and, as such, wouldn't be able to score regardless. It's things like this I'm looking forward toby polar - Hockey

Re: Coach Schafer's Three Goals - 15 years ago
Just from personal experience (saw both sides of the series this year), the rivalry against Clarkson seems to have more life to it. But somehow a rivalry with an ivy league leader sounds sexier than one with an almost-Canadian former tech school.by polar - Hockey

Re: New NCAA rules - 15 years ago
There were plenty of times this season that I was frustrated by a referee missing a call, either because he didn't see it or didn't think it was correct. I personally think teh four-ref system is the way to go, and I'm glad the change is being made. And as for the shootout, it's only been made an option. Especially considering college hockey (or at the very least the ECAC) does not award a poby polar - Hockey

Can anybody explain to me why that hit in the second period didn't earn at least a 10 minute misconduct? I was under the impression that contact to the head hits in ECAC which cause injury are supposed to automatically be one...by polar - Hockey

I've actually got a bag of swedish fish next to me right now, ready to throw. The funny thing is, no matter how much the administration frowns on it, there always seems to be colgate toothpaste and extra bags of swedish fish at Bear Necessities before Colgate and Harvard games...by polar - Hockey
On Murphy - 16 years ago
If I may, Murphy in particular has seemed especially inconsistent this year. Anyone at the Union game can attest to Lynah's reaction (one of the Union players poked Scrivens in the facemask with his stick in clear view of Murphy with no call, to name one). Even within the bounds of individual discretion, the way this particular referee calls games is almost negligent.by polar - Hockey
Re: Union at Cornell post-game - 16 years ago
What annoyed me was halfway through the third period, when Union #17 Josh Coyle poked Scrivens in the face with his stick three times in front of the ref, with no call. Little surprise he eventually earned an assist for his interfering efforts.by polar - Hockey

Re: Tech 4 Cornell 2 (Post-Game Thread) - 16 years ago
As far as Scrivens is concerned, I'm still very up in the air about him. Some nights he has looked absolutely fantastic (see: UMASS), but he's had three games so far, this one included, where he looked completely flat. He needs to start playing up to his own standard in the big games.by polar - Hockey
