Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell in the Valley of the Sun - 4 months ago
These announcers aren't the very worst, but they're... not homers so much as treating ASU as the main character? They have nothing to say about Cornell or its players. Ugh they just called us Colgate.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell in the Valley of the Sun - 4 months ago
marty Dafatone chimpfood Dafatone ASU deserves to lose after their announcer gushed about how Cornell's dmen were afraid to go to a shootout. Would they even have a shootout if OT ended in a tie? No, right?yes, they would’ve. Huh. Well, it was still dumb. And why only the defensemen? Because the defenseman don't get a chance in the shootout???? I was listening to Jason. The announcer patting himself on the back for reading from the rulebook without referencing the rule regarding a defensive player pushing the offensive player into the goalie was a highlight.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: ECAC 2024 Discussion Thread - 4 months ago
BearLover ugarte BearLover chimpfood BearLover If the PWR is doing its job, i.e. accurately ranking teams, then how good or bad the ECAC is should not affect Cornell’s odds of an at-large bid. This is because, if the ECAC is bad, Cornell should have a better record in-conference (and vice versa). Obviously, holding constant Cornell’s odds of beating (for example) Union, we’d rather Union performby Dafatone - Hockey

adamw DafatoneI think we're definitely in better shape now than we were. Uscho/chn don't seem interested in updating the pairwise tonight, don't know what you're looking at - but the Pairwise literally updates on CHN as each result comes in. It's recalculated on the fly. It did so tonight, like every other night. Thanks for the info. I think our rpi went down very slightly after this tie, whiby Dafatone - Hockey

Trotsky BearLover Dafatone BearLover Dafatone Two ties on neutral ice against higher ranked OOC teams is just fine by me. It’s okay, but we are on the outside looking in. We aren’t going to make the NCAAs by treading water. I thought Cornell played decently this weekend overall. To me, that is the good news. But I think we are less likely to make the NCAAs after this weekend than we were prior—weby Dafatone - Hockey

BearLover Really horrible penalty call on Walsh at the end of the period there. The guy sold it well. Walsh got his stick tied with the ASU player, so he threw his arms up like he got hit. My guess is the ref who called it didn't see it well and just caught the reaction.by Dafatone - Hockey

scoop85 Trotsky Dafatone When's the last time we played three games in a row against the same team outside of a playoff scenario? My guess is never. But it will make for a fun project to output my db and run it through a simple counter. You can free up your time for other pursuits. BearLover I was surprised by how physical UMass was. Also, and I’m mentioning this only because it bothers some people on this forum, they have 13 draft picks. I would have though a Hockey East team with 13 draft picks would beat us with skill and speed rather than big hitting. In fact, UMass delivered around ten crushing hits and one of them led directly to a goal. The other goal was off a rebouby Dafatone - Hockey

Trotsky Big DingusDefinitely agree with the fan cam. Could use some much needed production on the board. Why not replace Arthur with Michael Buffer? No. The way to get the fans back in the action is to eliminate bullshit, not increase it. Get rid of the PA ads. Get rid of the board. Hell, block cell reception. Re: CU-BU 2023 - 5 months ago
upprdeck Some of this is young guys still thinking they can do the same breakouts when they were the better players and now they are not. We make soft passes and guys deal with them better at this level. It will come. When it works it looks pretty when it doesnt it gets ugly. Yup. We have a LOT of young talent. Which means a lot of guys who are used to skating circles around their oppoby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: CU-BU 2023 - 5 months ago
ugarte Trotsky ugarteI am still annoyed at their terror at any forecheck and we have ONE player on the team who likes - actually likes - to shoot the puck (Bancroft) and every time he's on the wing with space, whoever is passing it to him handcuffs him so he can't one-time it. Morgan Barron would have killed someone by now. I agree with this generally, but Penny and Walsh also like to shoot andby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: ECAC 2024 Discussion Thread - 5 months ago
We'll see. Last year wasn't a good year for the ECAC either, but we somehow wound up with four teams in (well, three and an autobid). That being said, holy crap that's awful.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Princeton 11/18/23 - 5 months ago
chimpfood ugarte BearLover You’d think that when no passing seams have opened up after over a minute of passing it around on the perimeter, somebody would attempt to shoot the puck instead.Forget shooting - change the skating pattern! Step forward, make them move differently, have someone skate through the umbrella so they have to react to him. ANYTHING but Sweet Georgia Brown for four minutes. Dby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Quinnipiac , 11/17/23 - 5 months ago
chimpfood You can tell that this year’s team is going to be so much fun at times and utterly exasperating at others, but I’m along for the ride. Let’s come out strong tomorrow with a W and a strong defensive preformance. Yup. High highs and low lows, with a very bright looking future.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Quinnipiac , 11/17/23 - 5 months ago
Our power play still seems to be run as if we get awarded a goal if we get the puck to that center bumper slot position. Parking a guy in the center slot just lets the defense crowd around him and block shots from the point. Need more movement away from the puck and more high low. Send someone behind the net, get the puck down there. Less of everyone standing around.by Dafatone - Hockey

George64 Trotsky George64 I agree with her on the logo. What did she say? (Please tell me she wants to go back to Domestic Violence Bear, and that she will shitcan @yellcornell.) Nothing about @yellcornell. She said that that our branding is evolving and the block C is our main logo, but others remain in the “palette.” She seemed very conscious of our extramural appearance. Re: Fish N Fowl 11/11/23 - 6 months ago
We're a very good, very young team. There will be frustrating games like this one where we outplay the other team save for a few breakdowns. Maybe we can take a page out of Sucks' playbook and make our power play look more like theirs does. Move around more. Without the puck, with the puck. We just pass it station to station without any movement.by Dafatone - Hockey

I don’t use slack, though I know it’s a popular work app. I just want to emphasize that using one of these programs will, at least in the case of discord, likely spell the end of this forum.
