Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 2 months ago
BearLover Dafatone BearLover Safe to assume Cornell is going to have to win every single game until the ECAC finals if they want to make the NCAAs. Absolutely not safe to assume that. There's more hockey left than people realize. I disagree. Cornell is going to be 16th in the PWR after tonight. It will not be especially close to any of the teams ahead of them in RPI. Cornell has 6 games leftby Dafatone - Hockey

ugarte Dafatone ugarte ER lol 1 loss in 15 games. What a charmed life we lead.enough with the pollyanna posting! when we tie (much less gag away a W, much less lose in OT) against a bad team it HURTS us. Badly. We are down to 15 in the Pairwise. it's ok to be mad about it. they've changed the way teams qualify for the postseason, so the ECAC standings just don't matter as much especially when weby Dafatone - Hockey

We're literally 16-4-5 and we have people crawling out of the woodwork to pout about a late goal when we've killed 11 minutes of penalties. Hard to believe.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Clarkson, 2/23 - 2 months ago
Mr. Niss that was a terrible icing Just bad luck. That's not icing if the puck didn't roll on edge.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Clarkson, 2/23 - 2 months ago
Surprised we didn't call time out before that face-off. Can you call time on an icing? I can't remember. That went off the center's hand and back. Not sure it's a hand pass.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Clarkson, 2/23 - 2 months ago
Trotsky These guys are pretty bad homers. I am used to Clarkson having much better announcers. Between them and the bell, I'm really rethinking the respected opponent status I usually give them.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Clarkson, 2/23 - 2 months ago
Trotsky Big Dingus Wow are there ever some significant games in the pairwise tonight… not too many going our way it seems though lol. Do we want Umass to win or to lose? There is a detailed discussion in the Opponents thread. I can't remember. I lean lose, personally.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Clarkson, 2/23 - 2 months ago
Has Clarkson always done that stupid bell sound effect on hits? It's stupid.by Dafatone - Hockey

If they're #3 (with BU #2), BU gets the CCHA in Providence or Springfield and we get UND in Sioux Falls (assuming we're still at 14). I'm willing to get jumped by rabid NoDak fans for the cause. George64 Swampy IIRC, the GPA of my graduating class in Engineering in the late 1960s was 2.7. In the early ‘60s, the all-men’s average was about 2.7, the all-women’s a bit higher. I recall scoring in the high 20s on an exam and beating the class average. Upper level math classes were fun in the mid 00s because you could get like a 36/100 and still get an A-. Pretty sure the professors juby Dafatone - Hockey

BearLover Dafatone arugula with the players on the Pens pp, how is that even possible? Cornell's PP is too passive and too content to shuffle the puck around the umbrella, but I don't fault them for not shooting enough. Firing a shot into a defender's shins from the point is bad. We need to have more motion away from the puck and work the puck down low to generate chances, and for the love of godby Dafatone - Hockey

I should also mention that the power play with 1 shot attempt and 0 shots on goal leading to a breakaway was against the Islanders, who have the worst pk% in the nhl.by Dafatone - Hockey

arugula with the players on the Pens pp, how is that even possible? The Pens retired Jagr's number recently and had him on the broadcast. He said the players weren't selfish enough and kept looking to pass rather than shoot. ugarte marty Swampy sah67 Jacob MacDonald was profiled by a San Jose fan site as a model for the future of "position-less hockey" due to his versatility in shifting back and forth between forward and defenseman, even during a single game. Lots of good quotes from his coach (David Quinn) on that role as well: The subsequent waiving of JMD aside, it seems to me that, against Yale andby Dafatone - Hockey

BearLover Dafatone chimpfood Mixed emotions. Love to see them win the Ivy championship but that really hurts our chance at the tourney. It's fine. We didn't drop that far in RPI. We're just in a tight pack of teams. If we keep playing well, we will have a good shot. We didn’t drop far, but things are so tight that marginal changes aren’t so marginal anymore. Trotsky Dafatone One of my more inane opinions is that the end of the game should extend by the length of the ongoing power play if it's tied or if the team up a man is down one.I think the power play team should get an extra shot in the shootout. An extra man on one attempt.by Dafatone - Hockey

Beeeej I don’t pretend to understand it, but somehow the late results pushed us UP from 13th to 12th…?! An OT loss is still a partial win. Combine that with the strong opponent and we get nudged upwards. The one that really amused me was us moving up in RPI a tiny bit when Harvard lost the Beanpot consolation round in regulation.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 2 months ago
Harvard lost to BC. We appear to have gone up in RPI by .0001.by Dafatone - Hockey

Weder Trotsky We had a spate of guys who went into coaching but I think it has dried up: * 90 Casey Jones * 91 Shaun Hannah * 91 Tim Vanini * 92 Karl Williams * 08 Topher Scott Did Justin Krueger follow his dad into coaching after retiring in 2022? In terms of pro leagues, Cam Abbott is coaching in Sweden (with Chris as the GM of the team). And Jessica Campbell is coaching in the AHL.by Dafatone - Hockey

It remains a weird year for RPI. We are at .5590, which would have us around 8th most years.by Dafatone - Hockey
