Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell v Yale, 11/3/23 - 6 months ago
Not our best-looking game, but we kept Yale from getting a lot of good chances and took advantage of ours. Wouldn't shock me if Yale is decent this year.by Dafatone - Hockey

RichH Are the Yalie announcers on ESPN+ having a competition to see how many inaccuracies the can sneak in? Between pronouncing Seger “See-Jer” and how Cornell’s head coach was a goaltender, it been hammering on my inner fact-checker. The See-Jer thing is getting to me.by Dafatone - Hockey

I think $350 is a lot of money to a lot of students, but I also think it's very little money to a lot of students. And I suspect those students are also more likely to buy tickets and not bother going because a) the investment is so little to them that they don't feel like they have to go in order to not waste the money and b) they're more likely to afford other things to do on hockey nights.by Dafatone - Hockey

BearLover Redpucks1! Tomorrow is a big day on the college hockey recruiting calendar - 8/1 is the first day that '07 birth years can commit. (First day they could be contacted by schools was 1/1/23). I have no inside connection to Cornell Hockey, just a fan, but I'm really hoping they are in on these 3 players. In no particular order they are: 1. Cooper Dennis - Ithaca, NY!! Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 10 months ago
ugarte Roy 82 At least according to the recent SCOTUS decision, we don't have to worry about another Donato at Harvard. why would this possibly be true? SCOTUS didn't say anything about legacies. if anything, we have to worry about too many donatos. Are we at least done with the Biegas? It's fun to yell at each one of them that they're the worst of the Biegas, but it eventually gets old.by Dafatone - Hockey

adamw so many myths in this thread ... at the risk of being accused of being a shill for the NCAA ... the average NCAA athlete's academic performance is superior to the general population. When I was nearly 8, the Mets didn't play take me out to the ballgame during the seventh-inning stretch because they were too busy firing their manager. Nothing Cornell can do will hurt me the way the Mets do.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2023 and beyond - 1 year ago
We have a lot of senior talent to replace, but the strength of this team was that we had four strong lines. That bodes well for the future.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: 2023 Frozen Four - 1 year ago
ugarte i'm sorry if you can't enjoy the gophers losing 10 seconds into OT what are you even doing rooting for any school that isn't minnesota While the extremely blueblood #1 overall team losing immediately off the draw is certainly very funny, I live in Minnesota sports country, and let me tell you, these people need a win.by Dafatone - Hockey

arugula Transitive property, we're number 1, amirite? I thought Q looked waaaaay better here than they did in the various ECAC games I saw them play. Speed was remarkable and not what we saw against Cornell. Does that mean we played them, better than Minnesota, are better coached? We beat this year's champion and last year's champion. Not bad.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Who deserves 2023 D1 championship - 1 year ago
I have to figure that individual moments of success have a tiny tiny effect on recruiting. Especially in 2023 when everyone has internets and whatnot. It's not like you can establish secret pipelines to untapped regions of Canada anymore or whatever (looking your way Nanaimo). Recruits will want to go to Q because they're good. Whether they win or lose the national championship is gonna have aby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Who deserves 2023 D1 championship - 1 year ago
I don't like the Big10, but I think of Michigan and Minnesota as hockey schools independent of their conference. Especially Minnesota. So go Minnesota. Lord knows that's a sad fanbase for professional sports. Let them have something.by Dafatone - Hockey

Trotsky This Mean Girls shit is making me sympathize with BearLover. Please stop; there was nothing wrong with that particular post. Now is as good a time as any to say, with zero snark and full sincerity, that BearLover joking about the talent gap with Ohio State while they were beating up on Harvard might've been the highlight of the year for me.by Dafatone - Hockey

jtwcornell91 Regionals results by conference: Big T*n: 6-2 (2 left alive) ECAC: 3-3 (1 left) Hockey East:2-1 (1 left) NCHC: 1-3 CCHA: 0-2 Atlantic H: 0-1 Granted, our numbers are padded by Quinnipiac, but the ECAC ended up with a pretty respectable regionals performance, notwithstanding the Friday Night Massacre. Trotsky DafatoneI've been a fan for 20 years and there's really only been one season that felt like gee, we're kinda bad at this hockey thing, aren't we. That's impressive. 2013 left a scar. I don't know the Xs and Os of it, but after that season, Schafer said we tried something different and we're giving up on it.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: 2023 NCAA Tournament: Regionals - 1 year ago
I think it's important to remember that we're not entitled to anything. Cornell has a long and storied history, a really good coach, consistent performance over the last two decades, and a pretty kickass rink and fanbase. But none of that guarantees success. Even our "bad" years, like last season, had us as one of the better teams nationally, just not quite good enough to get an NCAAby Dafatone - Hockey

I guess I'll root for Minnesota. They're the most local team and I have a friend who went there and is super into hockey, though he's more of an NHL fan than a college one. Shrug. It's baseball season.by Dafatone - Hockey

ugarte BearLover... I thought possession was pretty even.in terms of "we knocked them off the puck and have it until we give it back" or "we have the puck and we're going to do something with it that looks like offense"? because it was a lot of the former and very little of the latter.
