Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 2 months ago
Chris '03 BearLover Chris '03 BearLover Can somebody please plot a graph with # of draft picks on the X axis and that team’s PWR on the Y axis, to test the correlation? Current RPI vs Picks: Also, quick question: from where did you derive the number of picks on each team? I know BU and BC each have 14, but the graph stops at 13. The CHN rosters are missing some drafted players, if that’s whereby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Odds of winning 2024 NCAAs - 2 months ago
The Rancor Maybe with home ice on the line, we get better scheduling... maybe even a proper number of games played each season... better SOS... Better RPI... I'd rather have the odd chance at winning in Denver with the nearly same chance of winning at Lynah. I mean we've been trying. We played a lot of good teams this year out of conference. Hard to blame us for perennial contender UMD being suby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 2 months ago
ugarte upprdeck the good news is that they could get a game vs BC now if Bu were to win.this happened, right? when i stopped paying attention BU was up 3-1. Hung on to win 4-3. As good results as we could ask for yesterday. Harvard losing was a given, so them losing in OT is a plus.by Dafatone - Hockey

BearLover Trotsky ECAC Hockey Tournament Probabilities SF F Title Qpc .96 .74 .45 Cor .91 .65 .35 Cgt .59 .18 .06 Clk .41 .13 .05 This season I will not say a word about how these “predictions” have zero predictive value because they are entirely derived from a ranking which is not predictive. I will stay silent about the fact these rankings are not backtested at allby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 2 months ago
For pairwise purposes, I'd like to thank Harvard for making it to OT before losing.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Clarkson at Cornell, 2/3 - 2 months ago
marty arugula Up to 14, barely! And Western Michigan is winning. We'll likely be back in 15 soon. We're still 14th! St. Cloud lost. Western Michigan won on the road against Denver and went all the way up to 10th.by Dafatone - Hockey

I missed the first period. Sounds like I missed a lot of nonsense.by Dafatone - Hockey

Trotsky ASU tied with Lindenwood in the 2nd. Whatever a Lindenwood is, it's up a goal with about 9 min left in the third.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: St. Lawrence at Cornell, 2/2 - 2 months ago
ursusminor Dafatone Sometimes RPI would have its Big Red Freakout against us. Just once (1982). Huh. Thought it had happened since I started watching (2005ish). Thanks.by Dafatone - Hockey

I'm kinda stuck here, because on one hand I tend to be relatively optimistic, but on the other hand I somehow hate Dartmouth more than Harvard.by Dafatone - Hockey

BearLover Dafatone George64 billhoward What a depressing finish, to wit being outshot in regulation and still be one lucky shot away from a 3-2 regulation win, then getting out-possessioned in the 3x3 OT then losing the shootout without getting even one goal. The 3 on 3 OT needs to go! It’s an aberration! I don’t recall ever seeing a 3 on 3 in the course of a hockey game. Puck possession beby Dafatone - Hockey

dbilmes randyranger That SI article is priceless! Sadly, reading this article is a reminder of what a great magazine SI once was and how it's a shell of itself now. Sadly, as of a few days ago, it's less than a shell of itself.by Dafatone - Hockey

BearLover Dafatone ugarte so much for that. back to the useless umbrella. dartmouth feels totally free to go after the skaters on the perimeter because they never leave formation to press the defense. they just tap it back and forth until they lose possession. My bad. After about a minute, I thought "gee, our power play looks a lot better." Then we spent the last minute nothing butby Dafatone - Hockey

upprdeck Trotsky Iceberg Looking at the play again, I still wonder why the refs didn't just award a goal when O'Leary was taken down on his way to the empty net. He was definitely tripped and he had already gotten ahead of the defender. When I saw the replay I thought it was a good poke. Jack was diving to push the puck into the net. He was not brought down by the stick. The stick made contact wiby Dafatone - Hockey

adamw RichH upprdeck if go on any kind of a run we get our RPI above .5600 and we move up 3-5 spots.. Are we good enough to do that. Like unbeaten in their last 7? That kind of run? Some of us need to chill out about the PWR situation in January and enjoy the rest of the regular season. We’ve barely begun the 2nd half of the league slate. Things are typically still fluid into March. Sheetz.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Harvard, 1/26 - 3 months ago
I almost wonder if the goal on the challenge was simply to point out to the refs that they missed a call.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs Quinnipiac, 1/20 - 3 months ago
ugarte ER They’re good but just as much homers as anyone else.imo "homer" doesn't mean that you are more excited when the home team scores. it means that you lose objectivity around penalty calls and the relative abilities or moral worth of the teams. in that sense, i think grady and tim are not particularly vocal homers even if they obviously want cornell to do well and their calls refby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs Quinnipiac, 1/20 - 3 months ago
I think Rego got caught trying to do too much. He tried to block the passing lane and close in on the skater with the puck, which is great if it works, but that's a big if.by Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs Quinnipiac, 1/20 - 3 months ago
upprdeck weather probably kept few people home last night, but student effort has been poorish for several years now.. There have been some games this year where the student crowd sounded louder on the feed than I've heard them since 2019-20 or so, for what that's worth.by Dafatone - Hockey

BearLover arugula Q drops from 5 to 8. We go from 16 to ……. 16. Discuss. Yeah, our spot in the Pairwise is brutal. As I mentioned yesterday in another thread, there was a big gap between Cornell and the top 15 heading into the weekend, and the top 15 is almost all national powers who have managed to keep winning over the past few weeks. The gap is now smaller, but it’s still enough that Cornelby Dafatone - Hockey

The Rancor I didn't want to start another thread, but feel free to move if in the wrong space: NCAA Hockey Regionals to Home Sites I agree in theory, but as the only person rooting for us to get placed in Sioux Falls, I'm not sure I agree in practice.by Dafatone - Hockey

BearLover Dafatone upprdeck whatever happens vs Quin if they win the other 3 we go from 7th to most likely 2nd in the league. now we need wins to build up the RPI to have a chance in the PWR Our RPI right now is .5447. From what I can tell, .54 is usually enough to get in. So maybe some of the teams ahead of us will slip a little. The more I look at it, the more I don't understand theby Dafatone - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 3 months ago
upprdeck since RPI is the tie breaking component for many of the teams thats gonna happen. the COP and H2H come into play for limited teams. Umass is an example.. if we beat Harv we win the COP and had we beaten them instead of a tie we would win the PWR even with losing the RPI. But how often RPI isnt the real reason for winning a PWR would need some review to see. It seems like everby Dafatone - Hockey
