Re: Quantifications - 21 years ago
Appleton, the rink at SLU, was renovated not too long ago, and the seating area wasn't touched. The gorgeous wooden risers are intact, but the restrooms, concessions, etc. are much more accommodating for fans. Of course, I don't know anything about whether the locker rooms, etc. were upgraded.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Union, 1/17 - 21 years ago
Al, I think you're right about Gregory. Also, did Knopp play defense on occasion? Or did I just think he could handle it if called upon? For some reason, I think Larry Pierce might have taken a turn or two on offense, but I could be mistaken. And maybe Jason Dailey? As for Ryan Hughes, did he actually try to play defense or was it just playing the point on the powerplay? In my mind, that'sby Anne 85 - Hockey

Sorry, Greg. The Kepler page doesn't give Johann's nationality, and the dictionary says he was German. I also wasn't clear about astronomer vs physicist....by Anne 85 - Hockey

Re: Cornell at Union, 1/17 - 21 years ago
BTW, Bell already has 3 career goals (including 2 in a game at SLU). So, it's likely that he was playing forward at the end of the Union game to rest some of the other guys. Also, Chris Abbott didn't dress for the RPI game (and T. Bell took his spot in warm-ups), so I'm guessing that our backup forward for the trip (Hynes?) couldn't go, but our backup defenseman (Gleed) could. However, I didby Anne 85 - Hockey

I think it was the Potsdam Pizza Hut. And the game was surprisingly close, given how many players were sick.by Anne 85 - Hockey

Ow!! And he still played over 18 minutes last night (Monday) -- 2 assists.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: It's your site, Age, but what the fudge? - 21 years ago
While driving home from the north country last weekend, I was thinking about Murray and the varying opinions of his play. What came to mind was watching Joe Nieuwendyk play in a Cornell uniform. I think most would agree that he was pretty special as a college player, and that he has done fairly well in the NHL. However, there were still people in the Lynah stands who would say things like &qby Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Ithaca to Union - 21 years ago
I've driven along route 88 more often than I care to remember (en route between Boston and Ithaca), and I consider the "mystery snow" to be a benefit, not a drawback. It provides a brief diversion from the bucolic scenery and usually doesn't significantly affect the driving conditions. In fact, I've often wondered what causes these snow squalls (I've had plenty of time to ponder, siby Anne 85 - Hockey

As I recall, Joe has had some really big games on New Year's Eve/Day. Maybe he'll pull out another one this year -- the Devils do play on Jan 1.by Anne 85 - Hockey

My personal favorite is white russians at the Chariot. I have no complaints about how they're made, and they're served in pint glasses!by Anne 85 - Hockey

Re: Cornell vs. BU - 21 years ago
jd, Where do you get your weather forecasts? I haven't seen anything about a "severe snowstorm" this weekend. The most I've seen (for the Boston-Ithaca route) is a 30% chance of flurries on Saturday and a chance of rain/snow showers Sunday night.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: BU vs. Harvard?? - 21 years ago
I have found that in situations like this it doesn't really work to decide which team to root for before the game. Once you're there, your true preferences will emerge. For example, I know I should root against Michigan (my parents' alma mater) when they play an ECAC team, but more than once I have found myself shouting "Go Blue" along with the Wolverine fans. Of course, there's alby Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: [Road trip] North Country? - 21 years ago
I'm planning to be there, but be warned, there is often a poor turnout during intersession, and the band's absence makes a big difference. There's a Comfort Suites practically next door to the Best Western in Canton. It's newer, and slightly nicer, but it doesn't have a lounge or anything that is open in the evenings. The CS does have a decent continental breakfast, and the lobby area is preby Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell Hospitality - 21 years ago
Have we even considered the possibility that Robb '03 was joking? After all, it doesn't really make sense to disturb their sleep after they play us (it only helps Colgate). Despite the fact that ideas like this are often discussed, it seems to me that they are rarely executed. After all, that $@#& steam whistle in Cheel is still in working order (as far as I know).by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Yale/Princeton thoughts - 21 years ago
We played 3 defensemen on the penalty kill a few times this weekend -- so it's not just a question of preserving the shutout. The ability to hustle is definitely an asset on the kill, and it may matter more than the player's regular position. Besides, Hornby can't play the kill when he's the one in the box....by Anne 85 - Hockey

I have it on good authority that the Chariot starts from frozen corn nuggets, so you must be able to buy them somewhere. Maybe you have to pretend you run a restaurant.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Scoreboard - 21 years ago
Thanks for the photo, Age! The scoreboard is much more traditional-looking than I imagined. (Probably because no messages are shown.) I think I like it -- as long as it's not used for robo-cheers.by Anne 85 - Hockey

Jordan, not only did you give no details for those of us who are thousands of miles away sitting in silence and updating eLF every 5 seconds, YOU DIDN'T EVEN SAY WHICH TEAM WON!!!! (Sorry for yelling, but I was a little perturbed.) LGR!by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: options to this Sunday's game - 21 years ago
The CHA newsletter states that Adam Wodon will have his debut as radio announcer for the Big Red on Friday, Nov. 1 (vs. Ohio State). This supports JTW's statement that the Canadian exhibition usually isn't broadcast.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell Hockey Association contact info - 21 years ago
The hospitality room is a designated place in the field house where CHA members can congregate, drink coffee, and eat snacks between periods of home games. I don't remember whether they ran the hospitality room last year. I usually choose not to fight my way through the crowd to get a small beverage and a brownie.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Another rough night for the ECAC.... - 21 years ago
But at least one McRae was a winner in the Sacred Heart game. And I think a former Cornellian was the coach -- but I can't remember his name.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell Hockey Association contact info - 21 years ago
In case no-one has replied directly, here's some information that might help. If you go to the CHA site and select "Become a CHA Member", you'll see a membership application form. The form has the wrong year (2001-2002), but the rest of the information matches what's in the September 2002 issue of Faceoff. The only differences I noticed were in the list of privileges for some of tby Anne 85 - Hockey

My tickets arrived a couple of weeks ago as well. And I too have Section C tickets available for the game vs. York, in case anybody needs them.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: How the blip??? (Football) - 21 years ago
I think the Cornell Club of Boston usually organizes something for football games at Harvard, but I've never been. If it's the place I'm thinking of, the football stadium isn't very large, so the Cornell contingent shouldn't be too difficult to spot. I have no idea if tickets are difficult to get.by Anne 85 - Hockey
