Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Hockey East at it again - 21 years ago
This from the same league that foisted the god-awful shootout on college hockey for a couple years in the '90s and was also considering going to two 25-minute periods for their games around the same time. I suspect the two-ref two-linesman system will work about as well as the two-ref one-linesman system did... not very. Whitehead's idea of pairing a new ref with a veteran sounds nice onby Give My Regards - Hockey

Neither of us could score, but it was the most exciting 60 minutes of 0-0 I can remember. With the mini game they did not play overtime. What made this game really nerve-wracking is that Dan Ratushny got caught with an illegal stick with about 40 seconds left (see, otheby Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: The Tenth Anniversary - 21 years ago
In 2002-03, Cornell broke a 33-year-old record for most wins in a season. In 1992-93, Cornell tied but did not break a (then) 33-year-old record for most losses in a season. Shoulda thrown that last Vermont game... Speaking of which... kudos or something to Vermont coach Mike Gilligan, who was solidifying his place among the elite even then. His Catamounts that year were the only ECAC team toby Give My Regards - Hockey

Here's a feel-good stat -- Cornell has never lost a Frozen Four game in New York: 2-0 in Syracuse in '67, 2-0 in Lake Placid in '70.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Section 307, row 5, seat 15. This sounds like I'll be banging my head on the roof, so I'll probably be wandering around in search of a seat closer to the action.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: CORNELL FROZEN FOUR TICKETS -- OFFICIAL RELEASE - 21 years ago
Maybe this should be in its own thread, but... I got an Email from somebody on HOCKEY-L looking to sell a set of four tickets. If you get shut out of the Cornell allotment, you might want to contact him. His name is James Bradshaw. Here's an excerpt from his Email: "My tickets are in Section 110U, Row 27 Seats 1-4. If you know of any Cornell folks that need tickets, these four tickets nby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: SportsCenter Clip of BC Game Winning Goal - 21 years ago
The clip was also shown on NewsCenter 10 last night, and they showed more of the celebration. Just after the SportsCenter clip ends, some exuberant Cornell player comes flying into the pile and lands on Dave LeNeveu! I know it's exciting, but DON'T DO THAT!! Re: #1 BAAAABY WOOF WOOF WOOF!!! - 21 years ago
Ummm, maybe I shouldn't bring this up, but... you'd have to go back ten years, to Maine's 1993 team, to find the last time the #1 team in the polls going into the NCAA tourney actually won the whole thing. In fact, it appears that the polls' #1 hasn't made the championship game since BU did it in 1994.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: David LeNeveu - Hobey Baker Finalist! - 21 years ago
The Hobey site indicates that Colorado College's Peter Sejna, who is from Slovakia, is the second European player to be a Hobey finalist. I don't remember hearing about this, but that would mean Sweden's own Doug Murray was the first one last year.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: Travesty - 21 years ago
Oh, I dunno... Dave's overall GAA is 1.16, but his GAA for the month of February was 1.25 according to the article... which means that it was not a good month for him. ) ) )by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Hobey Baker - 21 years ago
I have a feeling he will easily make the top ten, how could they not pick the best goalie in the country I'll tell you how they could not... Lenny plays in the oh-so-pitiful ECAC, and he plays behind a defense that allows just over 20 shots a game. Can't you see the rationalizations already?by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: New Polls - 21 years ago
Before the polls come out for this week, does anyone really want Cornell to be voted the #1 team in the nation? Not until April 13th. )by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: TBRW Statistical Reflections on the 2003 RS - 21 years ago
And it appears that Lenny is closing in on another milestone... From an earlier thread, Ken Dryden appears to hold the Cornell record for most times allowing one goal or fewer in a season, with 17 in 1967-68 (6 shutouts, 11 one-goal games). Dave is currently sitting at 16, with 7 shutouts and 9 one-goalers. Add Todd Marr's one-goal game against Ohio State, and the Big Red is currently one shorby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: TBRW Statistical Reflections on the 2003 RS - 21 years ago
This is also the first time since before the Great Divorce that Cornell has posted at least one RS win against every ECAC opponent. The closest the Big Red had come to this feat prior to this season was Coach Schafer's first year behind the bench, 1995-96, when Cornell beat every ECAC opponent at least once in the regular season except for RS champ Vermont, whom the Big Red tied twice.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: How good is Lenny? - 21 years ago
Bill, is the Dryden record of 13 career shut outs just ECAC play, or career shut outs from all games by an ECAC goalie? It's all games -- it includes the 1-0 NCAA semi win over North Dakota and a couple shutouts over Canadian teams, as well as ECAC opponents.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: How good is Lenny? - 21 years ago
My question...we know the Cornell single-season record for shutouts, and I think someone mentioned that Ryan Miller had 10 one year, which is the NCAA record. What is the ECAC record? Jack Ferreira had 8 for BU in the 1964-65 season. He and Ken Dryden share the ECAC career record for shutouts with 13.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: Mr. Morris goes to Vancouver - 21 years ago
What does everyone think about the possibility that Schafer will work for an NHL club some day? Has he ever mentioned it as a personal goal? I don't believe he's ever mentioned it publicly, and I wonder if never having played professionally would be considered a detriment by the NHL. His job security here certainly shouldn't be an issue, and it seems like he and his family are enjoying the Ithaby Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: poor grades? - 21 years ago
Yeah, my school district (Central Bucks, near Philly) gave E's and F's for at least one year. F was the usual failing grade; E wasn't given too often but was meant to acknowledge the student who at least put some effort into the course, even though he/she didn't pass it (so E stood for "ehh, you tried." I don't believe there was any difference cume-wise between an E and an F. No, I doby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Vermont 1 @ Cornell 8 - FINAL - 21 years ago
So, given the thumping Cornell put on Vermont Saturday night, and given the way these "routines" usually work, I wonder if Dan will try very hard to be the second-to-last player to leave the ice from now on...by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: When was the last time.... - 21 years ago
All right, so I live for this kind of stuff ) The last time Cornell chased the goalie in consecutive games was 1/29/00 against Colgate and 2/4/00 at Harvard. In the second of these games, which Cornell won 6-2, the Crimson's J.R. Prestifilippo allowed five goals by the midpoint of the second period and gave way to Oliver Jonas. Cornell actually lost the Colgate game 4-2. So how did they &quoby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: usatoday polls 2/10 - 21 years ago
Is this the first time Cornell has been as high as #2 in either poll? I think it's a pretty safe bet that this is the first time Cornell has been ranked so high this late in the season. The Big Red was once picked #2 in a pre-season poll by The Hockey News, before the 90-91 season (oog).by Give My Regards - Hockey
