The Rancor TimV That background music, though... yeah... you need a remix. I thought it was GREAT. Emoji represented an actual tear that came from my eye. Please don't change it.by TimV - Hockey

Re: Fall sports 2020 cancelled - 3 years ago
The Ivies will make it harder to recruit against other leagues when those leagues point out our presidents’ eagerness to “lead the way” by so readily dispensing with precious seasons of eligibility that they also make very difficult to recover without forcing those student-athletes to transfer. Do the presidents think Michigan, Notre Dame, Duke, Virginia, and Stanford will follow their lead?by TimV - Other Sports

I don't like setting a precedent for the creation of a custom banner. Unaccomplished teams will find things they can hang a banner for just to have something in the rafters. No participation trophies please.by TimV - Hockey
Re: Cornell hockey 2019-20 National Champions - 4 years ago
Before there was a football playoff, they referred to "Mythical National Champions.by TimV - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs Colgate at LP - 4 years ago
Sorry for the annoyance, man- I posted this about 15 minutes after the news was released and hadnt yet scrolled thru all 200+ posts on a thread about the virus. Thought it deserved a headline. Simply mark thread as read, and dont look at it any more. Simple.by TimV - Hockey
Re: Alumni News: 2019-20 - 4 years ago
Trotsky Does MLL have the same bullshit Investor-Operator model as MLS? That's a veto for me. It's like rooting for different colors on a Vegas roulette wheel. It's all just the House. Nogw what they need is motorcycles and a banked track... Rollerball! When the movie came out I thought that could be done under "Madrid rules." An exhibition was actually played in the Munichby TimV - Hockey

upprdeck ES6PN+ seldom stays on for post game stuff on any broadcasts. They stayed on stream for the Union Senior Night ceremonies. I only watched to see if they would actually do it. I thought, seeing that, they would do so for us too. But no.by TimV - Hockey
Re: Bracketology for 2020 NCAAs - 4 years ago
Swampy Yes, the PC team slept in a hotel. But they also went back to campus where they could use the "coaches offices, shooting room, ... meeting rooms, athletic training room, ... video boards, video ribbon boards, ... and a strength and conditioning facility" Wow. A shooting room? Given our performance in shootouts, breakaways, and penalty shots, where can we get one of thoseby TimV - Hockey
Re: 2020-02-29: Cornell 5 Clarkson 1 - 4 years ago
Clarkson round table thread doesn't discuss last night yet in the main thread, but seems they are tilting toward blaming coaching. It's All Your Fault!!!by TimV - Hockey
Re: Indoor Practice Facility - 4 years ago
Al DeFlorio Swampy billhoward It would be fabulous if the indoor facility could hold fans. I said 1,000 but really even 500 would be okay. Not many soccer (M or W), field hockey, even the early-season MLax games draw more than a couple hundred. Just OK is not OK. Well, suppose the U.S. men's soccer team wins the WC in, say, 2030, and the women's team wins it in 2023, 2027, and 2031. Now all tby TimV - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2020 - 4 years ago
billhoward ugarte wins over #26, #29 and #36. not popping bottles yet. 3-0 is nice though. Yale plays at Cornell 1 pm Saturday, March 14, same as the ECAC hockey quarterfnals in Ithaca. Road trip! Great. Always love an afternoon lacrosse game followed by drying off and warming up next to Lynah ice.by TimV - Other Sports
Re: Polls 2019-20 - 4 years ago
upprdeck you only get so many hrs to practice these days cant spend it all on the ice working on this one thing Very true. There were no such limits then.by TimV - Hockey
Re: Polls 2019-20 - 4 years ago
Swampy I know some of you actually played for Ned. So asking what he would do is not an idle question. Talk among yourselves. OK I'll bite. Lacrosse experience only. Ned would most frequently run us for conditioning reasons. Remember his RPI hockey national championship was won with a very small squad so conditioning was a major thing for him. He would do it for lack of effort, but notby TimV - Hockey
Re: 2020-02-01: Cornell 5 Princeton 3 - 4 years ago
Trotsky KenPStats are almost guaranteed to improve. Between now and Lake Placid we have 10 games with 9 of those being against significantly weaker teams. (Clarkson 2/29 is the lone exception.) Ahem. Ha. Even Union can't spell Schenectady.by TimV - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Quinnipiac 1/31/2020 - 4 years ago
marty Another issue that makes coaching so different than it was 15-20 years ago is that everyone can watch (tapes of) every game. That knife cuts both ways, no? Is our scouting worse than everybody else's? Like our inability to figure out Harvard's power play?by TimV - Hockey
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2020 - 4 years ago
Trotsky I wouldn't be surprised if all of CU Engineering vacates Ithaca someday. (Good. We can go back to being an Arts & Ag school. Plow under the Eng quad and replant the trees). Some trees would be good, but it would also be a great location for a full size football/lacrosse/soccer indoor facility.by TimV - Other Sports
Re: Perfection Returns to Lynah - 4 years ago
I'm more with Trotsky on this. Syracuse Lacrosse with #22 and Hill School with #45 traditionally have a number not retired but rather reserved for active players they deem worthy to honor the original iconic wearer. I like that, and it avoids some of Swampy's concerns. It also avoids the situation where you get so many retired numbers you have a hockey team full of football numbers because 1-31by TimV - Hockey

Really loved seeing the white helmets with the red jerseys- the traditional look. Let's go back to THAT. Lose the red helmets altogether. Except maybe the game at Lynah East.by TimV - Hockey
Re: Lynah Documentary This Weekend - 4 years ago
abmarks In case Pete Shier is reading this thread- talk to Andy Noel about having the ushers let the crowd play. Wonder if he'd loosen up a bit for the sake of a recruiting video. Absolutely Andy would be on board. He'd LOVE to have our most devilish hijinx recorded for posterity and shown to everyone the net could reach. That sounds like him. For Pete's (!) sake though, don't include shby TimV - Hockey

Jim Hyla I don't know that 3 points make a significant trend, Hell, Jim, our QA people at Albany Miracle Center can see a trend in only TWO data points. I pissed them off once when I wore a shirt to a meeting that said "Quality Assurance Is Neither."by TimV - Hockey
Re: 2020-01-11: Cornell at Union - 4 years ago
Swampy ice I hope they spend a lot of time working on the PK in practice. Not a common weakness for a Cornell team. One would think. Except for the fact that players on the PK also play on the PP, practicing 5 v 4 skaters at one end of the ice seems an ideal way to address our two most important flaws. How do you practice defending a juicy rebound that lands on the tape of a guy in the hiby TimV - Hockey

Ok. That's what I get for being a week behind in my reading. Carryover bad habit from college.by TimV - Hockey

Last night's game was an anomaly for us," Clark said. "This was more of who we are and our game." Soooo...it was anomalous yet more characteristic? How, exactly, does that work?by TimV - Hockey

andyw2100 The Rancor are they or aren't they identical twins? Not identical. Ben is listed at 6' 3", Zach at 6' 1". On the outside chance that you're not joking this has nothing to do with zygosity. But it's true that they don't currently LOOK identical.by TimV - Hockey
