Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Women 2011-12 Main Thread - 12 years ago
Ben ithacat Ben Hagg pulls one back late for Q, 7-1 final. Back top of the table, BU next. I am bummed to have to miss the BU series. They should be playing a doubleheader at MSG. The Rangers are playing Philly at 2 next Saturday, so they couldn't have scheduled a doubleheader. I wasn't really being literal since scheduling is done in advance. I was just being wishful (and greedy).by ithacat - Hockey
Re: lles is not the answer - 12 years ago
ajh258 Scrivens was the answer, so if Iles gets the ECAC Championship and then into the Forzen Fours, then he will become the answer. I appreciate everything Scrivens did while at Cornell, but I must have missed those Frozen Fours.by ithacat - Hockey

Re: Does anybody know what became of Hudon? - 12 years ago
Victoriaville is putting pressure on Hudon to sign with the QMJHL team. Here's hoping he gets the help he needs and then decides what is best for him. I know it's not nice to quote from subscription sites, but it's probably best to allow the speculation to rest. USHR “He withdrew from school for personal reasons,” says Cornell head coach Mike Schafer. “He plans to come back.” There is, oby ithacat - Hockey

Re: CU Hockey-Preseason - 12 years ago
Trotsky ithacatMy vote for player of the game, however, would have gone to Bardreau. He played both ends of the ice relentlessly, and he was a terror through the neutral zone. His near goal on the baseball swing in the 2nd period would have blown the old roof off the rink -- that was a nice save by Van Bommel.Bardreau was everywhere. Guelph was also VERY slow, so we'll see if he can do it againsby ithacat - Hockey
Re: lles is not the answer - 12 years ago
Tom LentoSo, is Isles going to be a good, but not great, collegiate goaltender, or will he be the next Matt Underhill? I sure as hell don't know, but neither does anybody else. None of us will until he plays regularly. Iles hasn't been the man in 2 years. The NTDP always rotates goalies and then there was last season. Iles is 19 and has played 2650 minutes over 47 games in the past 2 seasons --by ithacat - Hockey
Re: CU Hockey-Preseason - 12 years ago
ajh258 BearLover Any observations from tonight's game? (It's still the Preseason, so I didn't feel it was necessary to create a new thread.) How'd the freshmen look?Great! Bardreau scored a goal at the end of the 1st, and Lowry (who started first line) looked fierce on the ice although he was -1 for the night. Ferlin and Dias were also freshmen I noticed who skated well. MVP for the night wby ithacat - Hockey
Re: lles is not the answer - 12 years ago
ajh258 CAS I'm sure Schafer plays the guys who he believes give us the best chance to win. To suggest he makes decisions based on other criteria is ridiculous. And its not just Schafer who has great confidence in Andy. The coaches of the US World Juniors team speak very highly of him. In Schafer I trust! They must be blind. I am not the only one who holds the opinion that Iles looked worse thaby ithacat - Hockey
Re: lles is not the answer - 12 years ago
It doesn't matter what I think. It matters what the staff thinks, and what Iles thinks. He didn't get beat on any wrap arounds tonight.by ithacat - Hockey
Re: lles is not the answer - 12 years ago
Of course, neither of the goals tonight had anything to do with your observed weakness. Which may make his performance tonight even more worrisome. It does, however, appear he's regressed somewhat. I still think his skill set is off the charts and throughout this season we'll see him turn into one of the best goalies in the ECAC. (Enter, Kris Mayotte)by ithacat - Hockey
Re: Red and White pre-game - 12 years ago
KeithK ithacat I agree with you...it's a fun evening out and if one can make it, one should. It's free... R/W is free? I always remember them charging a nominal fee (a few bucks) back in the 90's. Based on Jim's comment maybe they should have charged a little and offered the proceeds to the charity. Free. Still, I'm surprised they didn't raise more money. Re: Red and White pre-game - 12 years ago
profudge A very enjoyable format for the Red and White - a lot of families and kids there. If you can make the Red and White game it is an enjoyable evening! Hard to tell in a scrimmage with this format --> some initial impressions; Madison Dias, Joel Lowry, and Cole Badraeu showed speed and hustle; and Ferlin and McCarron and Hudon bring size. Jim Hyla And now, Adam's take on ND and HE. Sad to read Syracuse's position. I'd love for them to join the party. Paul Kelly was interviewed during tonight's North Dakota - BC game and said he expected Hockey East to add one more (nothing new there), in addition to Notre Dame. He said he thought the ECAC and Atlantic Hockey would remain relatively unchanged (nothing shocking there). He teaseby ithacat - Hockey
Re: Syracuse to the ACC - 12 years ago
Jim Hyla Weder Swampy Another story on Syracuse going to the ACC in Laxpower. There's a bit of pretentiousness in some of the statements by SU officials. One is the statement from SU's Chancellor and President, Nancy Cantor, who said, "We are pleased that Syracuse adds a New York City dimension to the ACC." It's a safe bet her appointment is not in the Geography Department. Anotheby ithacat - Other Sports

Ken711 CUontheslopes Wait - we got a QB transfer from Cal, as in UC Berkely? Who knew...UNH isn't too bad either, but a transfer from Cal could be a difference maker in the Ivy League for sure. His name is Beau Sweeney. He wasn't a starter at Cal Berkeley, was probably their 3 QB on the depth chart, but was highly rated coming out of HS. Decided he wanted a chance for more playing time and stby ithacat - Other Sports
Re: New Conference - 12 years ago
Chris '03There's also the (very?) outside chance the big east is thinking about a hockey conference... Is any other school talking about starting a program, other than Syracuse? More importantly any other football schools talking about hockey? There seems to be lots of chatter about the football schools breaking off.by ithacat - Hockey

Re: Cornell Hockey Annonces Class of 2015 - 12 years ago
cbuckser RichHI hope Marozzi is a find following Garman's decision to graduate early. In 4 seasons in the AJHL, he had more shutouts than losses. It's the system. Might be true... The top 2 goalies in each of the past 2 seasons were from Spruce Grove. 3 years ago, they only finished 2nd and 3rd in the league. Coach DeLuca might be interested in this guy: TE Ben Green – 6-7/245 — Belvedere, Calif. (Phillips Academy) An all-league selection at tight end and defensive end, Green led his Brentwood School team to a league title and a spot in the CIF Southern section finals in 2007. He went on for a postgraduate season playing at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. playing both ways. He hauled in 14 passby ithacat - Other Sports

pfibiger this sucks for us, but congratulations to Casey! He certainly is deserving of a head coaching gig! Wonder who we'll see as an assistant? Jamie Russell returning? Topher Scott moving up from grad assistant at Miami? Good for Casey. Might be too much for Topher to be considered at this stage of his career. Wastherein70 You had a goalie that had been in net for the three victories of the four tournament games that Cornell had played, the last a shutout. Mike says in the pre-game that he picked Iles because it's Saturday, Andy's night, and Garman seemed tired after playing in the overheated rink in AC. TrotskyThe WCHA may take a run at Air Force, though. They're right down the street from CC and they seem at least competent. I wonder if Niagara and RIT might be attractive to the now-far-less-Michigan-centric CCHA? USAFA and Alaska make the most sense for the WCHA, especially Air Force. RIT would seem a good choice for the CCHA. It's hard not to be impressed with what they've done withby ithacat - Hockey
