Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: ECAC QFs_Game 3's - 13 years ago
LGRye Colgate is playing good hockey. This is all reminding me of 07-08 when Colgate beat first place Clarkson in three games. They then went on to the semis in Albany to get beat by Princeton 3-0. Let's hope this time they can hang with Yale. I'd love to see that upset, but I think Yale is just too good. Since Feb 11 they're 6-3-1 against ranked teams. Not bad.by ithacat - Hockey
Re: Recruits - 13 years ago
RatushnyFan I would note that very few top prospects stay in the Atlantic Youth Hockey League for their U18 seasons....but there are exceptions. One of his teammates is heading to UNH & another is going to Quinnipiac. There's 3 schools hoping you're wrong.by ithacat - Hockey
Re: 2011 ECAC Post-season - Colgate wins - 13 years ago
Trotsky billhoward Colgate scores in the second OT and wins 2-1. So Cornell hosts Quinnipiac starting Friday. That's better than playing host to RPI. Hard to believe a team with as much talent as the Engineers couldn't make it to the ECAC round of 8.Though careful what you wish for. Quinnipiac destroyed the Brown team that beat us. ...and the last time Cornell was a #4 seed they lost to Quinnyby ithacat - Hockey
Re: [Wrestling] EIWA Championships - 13 years ago
This team has been so good recently that this feels a bit disappointing. Same number of auto-bids coming out of the EIWAs as last year and one less champion. Is perfection really asking too much?by ithacat - Other Sports
Re: Recruits - 13 years ago
ursusminor Cornell95 I think we can all agree that there are still some gaping holes in the current recruiting class Where are the brothers (twins preferably) !!?!!!?? Did someone not get the memo that the Devins are graduating? I was quite surprised that Tyson and Tylor Spink (Cornwall Colts) chose Colgate. RPI can't get them all.by ithacat - Hockey
Re: General 2010-11 Wrestling thread - 13 years ago
ugarte ithacat Another interesting wrestler to follow is Norwich 8th grader Tristan Rifanburg (112) who advanced to the semis in Division 2. Rifanburg became the first wrestler in NY history to win a State title as a 7th grader last year. Troy Nickerson's record of 5 state championships is safe. Rifanburg lost in the finals. T-Ri can still tie T-Ni.by ithacat - Other Sports
Re: Cornell vs. Hobart lax - 13 years ago
6 our of 24 now on FOs...heck, guess it's going to hurt 'em against bad teams. Modest edge in GBs. If they're going to suck on FOs it'd be nice if they could dominate GBs.by ithacat - Other Sports
Re: Cornell vs. Hobart lax - 13 years ago
scoop85 The team looks much sharper than this time last year. FO's still a concern (even though the stats show us taking 5 out of 11), but otherwise nothing to complain about. 5 out of 17 early in the 4th. Not good at all. Against a good team that will hurt them.by ithacat - Other Sports
Re: cornell 2 - brown 3 OT - 13 years ago

RichH David Harding Al DeFlorio Inside Lacrosse has Cornell as the cover story of its March issue. Additional pictures taken at the photo shoot are here: Do any of you care as much about lacrosse jersey styles as about hockey uniform styles? Not since the "Butt C" became standard. These look like a return to the style worn before the butt-C jerseys.by ithacat - Other Sports

State Championships are underway this weekend in Albany. Advancing to the semis in Division 2: Cornell recruits: Senior Owen Scott (160) by 17-1 and 18-1. Freshman Burke Paddock (Warsaw) is in the opposite bracket. He's the brother of Ian Paddock (Ohio State) who went 2-2 in the NCAA tourny last year as a freshman and was named to the freshman All-Academic team. Senior Craig Scott (17by ithacat - Other Sports
Re: Recruits - 13 years ago
TrotskyAlso, young isn't necessarily "awkward." Union's freshman class this season has been insane. Not every freshman is born equal, however. Union's class has 2 from 1989, 5 from 1990, and 1 from 1991. Cornell's class has 1 from 1990, 3 from 1991, and 2 from 1992. Cornell's oldest freshman is only 4 months older than Union's youngest. Next year's class could be even youngerby ithacat - Hockey

Re: Harvard 4, Cornell 3, Final - 13 years ago
Tom Tone ithacat The only things that should ever be allowed to be thrown on the ice should be hats and teddy bears. Why the exceptionalism for hats and teddy bears? Hats come during game play and can be just as disruptive. Are you implying that it is traditional so then it's okay? Then is it also okay for an entire generation of future Cornell fans to not have the opportunity to hurlby ithacat - Hockey
Re: Harvard 3, Cornell 3, 3rd period, 11:28 left - 13 years ago
ebilmes Just want to clarify that the bench minor was the only Harvard PP that Cornell was able to successfully kill off. So, as stupid as the fans are who threw fish and other objects, that penalty was not the turning point in the game. I would have liked to have seen what Cornell might have done riding the emotion of tying the game and being able to pressure Harvard instead of having to haveby ithacat - Hockey
Re: Harvard 4, Cornell 3, Final - 13 years ago
Tom ToneWhat if it had been newspaper? Should we stop throwing that on the ice as well? Yes. Throw newspaper up in the air or at each other, but not on the ice. The only things that should ever be allowed to be thrown on the ice should be hats and teddy bears. That being said, as long as these things only happened before the game I don't really care -- assuming the rink is adequately staffed foby ithacat - Hockey

Re: The least disciplined team in the ECAC - 13 years ago
Reading this thread for the first time after having returned home from the game I would have sworn it was entirely written post game. Up 1-0, Nicholls takes a penalty 7 minutes into the game...tied 1-1. Tied 1-1 with a 5:00 PP coming up, Mowrey takes a penalty after the whistle...Harvard takes a 2-1 lead. Two more PP goals by Harvard and a very winnable game turns into a loss.by ithacat - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Union pregame - 13 years ago
dbilmes It looks like Union is pulling out all stops tonight, promoting a Whiteout for the game against Cornell. Hopefully, they'll get more participation than Sucks did a few weeks ago at Lynah East. May want to save that for a more challenging opponent. Two games vs Union: outscored 9-1 and outshot 78-25. That's going to take some time to sink in.by ithacat - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Iowa State Wrestling - 13 years ago
ugarte ithacat What about the ISU coach going off on Ward (I think it was Ward). I'm old-school but that looked abusive. The coach was pissed off because his wrestler - a top 15 guy - was gassed early in the second period. The wrestler had already gotten a stall point for dragging himself back to center after going out of bounds and called a time out himself to catch his breath. He just wasn't trby ithacat - Other Sports
Re: Only a "home run" offer takes Donahue away - 13 years ago
Ken711 Not totally unexpected. Graduating for starters and a 6th man from last year that accounted for 72% of the scoring I knew they would be bad, but not this bad. Hopefully Courtney has a good recruiting class coming in. Doesn't that imply that Steve didn't capitalize on the team's success in terms of recruiting?by ithacat - Other Sports
Re: Cornell - Iowa State Wrestling - 13 years ago
ugarte Jacob '06 Getting caught in a headlock twice in a match and then pinned on the second one is pretty rough for Meagher. Both times he was on offense but came in sloppy and got countered. Meagher is clearly the better wrestler but not so much better that he could afford to be careless. The first time he gave up back points, the second time the pin. I appreciate that he was aggressive but heby ithacat - Other Sports

Re: General 2010-11 Wrestling thread - 13 years ago
Al DeFlorio Wrestlers crush Binghamton but Kyle Dake loses fitst match of the year. I'm guessing Dake was sick. The only really burst of energy he displayed was in the first 10 seconds. He spent the rest of the match looking gassed, tending his bloodied mouth, fretting over his headgear, and surrendering points for stalling. The Binghamton wrestler certainly deserved to win as he was aggressiveby ithacat - Other Sports

ugarte Al DeFlorio Couple of familiar last names in this Ithaca Journal article on local high school wrestling: Rob Koll is not a small man. I can't believe he's got a kid who wrestles at 103.
