Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Polls 2015-16 - 8 years ago
ugarte Trotsky To 16 in USCHO, as Minn-Duluth's sweep is an invitation for them to drop below us.For a second a three point road weekend from the infirmary, including against a tough Yale team, might get more credit than two over 0-12 Colorado College. But UMD outscored CC 11-0 in Denver. Weird early season voting strikes again. Also, what happened to Colorado College. Jeez. EDIT: except for tby ithacat - Hockey

Jim Hyla ithacat Someone appeared to make newspaper dispersal a priority before tonight's game. 3rd star worthy... I'll take credit for that. Sec. D is supposedly (second hand info) a general admission All-Freshman section. Some of the students I talked to didn't even know the tradition. Partially I blame the start of Sec. C for that. It's tough when you break up the student sections. When you'by ithacat - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs Quinnipiac, Saturday - 8 years ago
tominvb Bummer But they did send a message that the Red are back. Good luck guys and well played. Not sure losing at home when blowing a 3 goal lead sends that message. They appear to be more fun to watch. I'm not sure they're back yet.by ithacat - Hockey

nshapiro half of section A was empty for Niagara on Saturday night. And don't try to make excuses for the kids today by saying it was Halloween. My son was happy to go with us to the game because the parties wouldn't even be starting until after the game was over. If you counted the number of newpapers during Niagara's introduction you would have needed to borrow one hand, maybe another fingerby ithacat - Hockey
Re: Women's Hockey 2015 - 8 years ago
Women worked their tails off in the second. Effort pays off with 2 goals. We're tied 2-2. Union's Black has played a strong game through two. SOG 27-10 Cornell.by ithacat - Hockey
Re: Women's Hockey 2015 - 8 years ago
Women trail Union 2-0 after one period at Lynah. SOG 10-5 in favor of Cornell. Through 10 periods at home Cornell has been out scored 16-2, is 0 for on the PP, and gone through 3 goalies. This should be considered the easiest series at home this year and we may be swept. Yikes.by ithacat - Hockey
Re: Women's Hockey 2015 - 8 years ago
ursusminor Trotsky Boo. Sorry, the RPI women don't beat Cornell (or anyone else for that matter) too often. Then again, after 4 years of mediocrity, the RPI women have talent in the net again, and that can give confidence to the rest of the team. Congrats to RPI...we do, however, appear to be more of the "anyone else for that matter" variety this season. With 5 of the 11 defensemenby ithacat - Hockey
Re: Women's Hockey 2015 - 2016 Season. - 8 years ago
imafrshmn We got totally demolished because we were exhausted after Friday night and because Marlene Boissonault isn't as adjusted to NCAA-level play as Voorheis. We have a really solid defense corps and it looks like they will be expected to get deep in the offensive zone the way that former players like Laura Fortino and Alyssa Gagliardi were so effective at. Elite forwards like BC's Carpenterby ithacat - Hockey
Re: Women's Hockey 2015 - 2016 Season. - 8 years ago
Looks like it's going to be a long season. BC looked very good, made us look like practice pylons for long stretches of play. Really need to recruit speed.by ithacat - Hockey

Cop at Lynah When they expanded Lynah I presume Maybe, but I don't remember the Dept advertising season tickets for the general public in recent years.by ithacat - Hockey
Re: Season tickets - 8 years ago
Last year you could get women's season tickets for a dollar per game when you renewed. This year those tickets were included, as well as the football and lacrosse tickets. Does anyone know when the general public waiting list disappeared?by ithacat - Hockey

Scersk '97(3) If you're not BC or Minnesota, you might as well build out from a stingy defense. I'm not so sure that's still the case. Even if it is, I'd rather lose at Lynah by a score of 4-3 than 1-0. I think the "it's all your fault" chant is the most intimidating chant we have and I'd rather hear it as much as possible. Of course, I'm an offense and speed freak in any sport. Loby ithacat - Hockey
Re: Basketball 2014-15 - 9 years ago
billhoward CAS I don't believe any of the criticism has been unfair. You are what your record is. Compare the criticism of Courtney with that of Schafer, who has had 4 losing seasons out of 20. More criticism of the sports lots of fans are passionate about. Not much said about crew or polo having a bad or good year. Don't get me going about polo...that chuck and duck style is killing us.by ithacat - Other Sports

Trotsky Leaman is under contract with PC through 2022. I'm sure he has that within-25-miles-of-my-alma-mater escape clause.by ithacat - Hockey
Re: 2015-16 - 9 years ago
Jim Hyla Up to now I haven't seen anyone give that name. Maybe he exists, but just saying he must, doesn't make it so. Difficult to answer without knowing the financial commitment Cornell might be willing to offer. I'd assume it'd be limited given we almost always hire unproven assistants. I'd probably look at Albie O'Connell (BU) or Paul Pearl (Harvard) if I'm looking at assistants. Among heaby ithacat - Hockey
Re: Basketball 2014-15 - 9 years ago
mountainred CAS The author of the Cornell BB Blog wrote today, "Haven't felt this helpless despair following Cornell MBB since Al Walker era" - early-mid '90's. That's about right. But even Al didn't waste a talent like Shonn Miller. True enough, though Shonn proved to be his own biggest obstacle. It'll be interesting to see what a big time coach does wth him next season.by ithacat - Other Sports
Re: Should He Stay or Shoul He Go Part 2 - 9 years ago
Cop at Lynah I guess I just don't get it. Schafer's teams were pretty consistently good over the first 19 years, he made a change in the 20th years and it failed to produce the desired results in a historic way. So the man wants to go back to what had always been successful and everybody is going ape shit. I say good decision and hopefully the team will reap the benefits. What hasn't been meby ithacat - Hockey
Re: Should He Stay or Shoul He Go Part 2 - 9 years ago
Swampy There's also the "see the world factor." Andy Isles may have wanted to stay in little Ithaca, but Dustin Brown did not. I take your point, however, this isn't the best example...they each left Ithaca after their Freshman year. They just chose different paths. If Andy had been 6-2 or 6-3 I'm not sure he would have chosen the collegiate path. Additionally, he was very close toby ithacat - Hockey
Re: NCAA Throws the Book (Sort of) at Syracuse - 9 years ago
upprdeck it took 8 years because they did not find one issue.. not one.. everything they found SU had already self reported 10-12 years ago. the only relevant issue was the fab melo thing and they already knew that as well and that was the AD not the coach. Surprised Gross hasn't been fired. That nonsense with Fab Melo is inexcusable.by ithacat - Other Sports
Re: Should He Stay or Shoul He Go Part 2 - 9 years ago
SwampyI think a big problem the past few years has been lack of balance. We've had a bunch of draft picks, but even more guys who aren't particularly fast or who just aren't scoring threats. I think that sums it up and it isn't going to change. Schafer seems to dislike fast guys who can score, otherwise he'd be recruiting them instead of loading up on power forwards. Our draft picks are defendeby ithacat - Hockey
Re: ECAC Prelims - 9 years ago
Kyle Rose Dafatone Watching, no. Listening, yes. It's a bad end to a bad year. I just think we should keep things in perspective. This is the worst year we've had in what, 15 seasons or more? (I'm putting this one below almost knocking out Q a couple years ago). Plenty of teams have worse years. In fact, very few haven't. Let me be clear: losing by itself is not the issue. It's *how* Corby ithacat - Hockey
Re: ECAC Prelims - 9 years ago
Kyle Rose Clearly, something has to change. A system built from the net outward cannot give up five unanswered goals in two periods and be anything other than a joke. I suspect Schafer will blame the players for not motivating themselves.by ithacat - Hockey
Re: ECAC Prelims - 9 years ago

Re: ECAC Prelims - 9 years ago
Jeff Hopkins '82 BearLover Trotsky for the first period it looked only a matter of time until Cornell got one. How many times in the past half decade has it looked like only a matter of time until Cornell gets one? (Spoiler: they never get one.) Another spoiler: Then the defense makes a couple mistakes, they let in two in a span of about 5 minutes, and it's game over. Neither of those thinby ithacat - Hockey
