billhoward For anybody who went in person, was it hard to get tickets? There seemed to be, from the video, hundreds of empty seats even before the mid-game bailout for campus parties. I have been to many "sell-outs" at Q which featured hundreds of empty seats. They apparently have a lot of season ticket holders who don't show up. In any case, Q did send out an email earlier in the weekby dbilmes - Hockey

Iceberg The canned music after every stoppage really took away from the atmosphere of the rink. I don't remember it being nearly that bad in previous years. Someone did ask me why the band wasn't there. I guess financial reasons? I couldn't think of any other good answer. I'm sure there will be even more canned music tonight at Q, especially without the pep band. But at least the Q cheerleadby dbilmes - Hockey

Thanks to the Ivy League's oft-criticized rules about eligibility, nine Princeton seniors are entering the transfer portal. I'm assuming none of them can come play for Cornell!by dbilmes - Other Sports

BearLover Yale, Brown, Princeton, Harvard, and Dartmouth all played an Ivy opponent to open the season. Only Cornell played a non-Ivy game. True, but Cornell got the bonding experience of a long road trip, which none of the other Ivy teams did.by dbilmes - Hockey

Instead of starting a new thread, it's worth noting that the women's soccer team beat Princeton for the first time since 1995. That's quite a drought!by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Women 2022-23 - 1 year ago
The women did well to split a road weekend against two ECAC opponents who, like Cornell, are also in the Top Ten. No. 8 Cornell lost 4-1 to No. 7 Quinnipiac on Friday, but bounced back to beat No. 10 Princeton, 3-1, on Saturday, breaking a 1-1 tie with two third-period goals.by dbilmes - Hockey

Schafer had some interesting comments in Cornell Sun season preview: Head coach Mike Schafer ’86 attributes last season’s second half struggles to the coaching staff’s failure to build a strong foundation in the fall. “We as a coaching staff made some mistakes early on in building the building blocks for our season,” Schafer said. “You can’t go back in January and February when things are goingby dbilmes - Hockey

Princeton just sent out an email saying Limited Seats Available for the Nov. 4 game at Hobey Baker. That's my favorite road rink to visit, and I was hoping to make it down there this year, but it's easier to get down to Princeton from CT on a Saturday, so I will have to wait until next year.by dbilmes - Hockey

This might be the first post in eLynah history about field hockey, but the Cornell field hockey team deserves a shoutout for its 2-0 victory Sunday over No. 4 Louisville. It was the highest ranked team Cornell has ever defeated. Cornell will try to pull off another upset this weekend against No. 15 Harvard.by dbilmes - Other Sports

The men's soccer team raised its record to 8-1 on the road and stayed in second place in Ivies with a 3-1 win at Princeton. Morales and Kiingi teamed up for all three Cornell goals. There was a strange play late in game when it looked like Princeton might have scored to cut out lead to 3-2, as the players on both teams momentarily stopped play. But the ref never signaled a goal, and it was inconcby dbilmes - Other Sports
UConn game at MSG - 1 year ago
While we are waiting for our season to get started, UConn is already 6-0-1 and is just now getting the services of a highly-touted freshman who was a third-round draft pick of the New Jersey Devils.by dbilmes - Hockey

nshapiro #4 in RPI Interesting to see that Syracuse is one spot ahead of us even after we beat them. It shows that their league (the ACC) is much stronger than the Ivy League, but that's not a surprise. Penn (18) and Yale (20) are also both in Top Twenty in RPI, and both promise to be tough games ahead.by dbilmes - Other Sports

scoop85 Noteworthy that soccer is on this run given that they are missing two of their top players, Eisner and Ka, who are battling injuries. Eisner and Ka were both injured Saturday against Harvard. Eisner had just come back from an injury and was playing well. Let's hope neither of them is injured too badly.by dbilmes - Other Sports

CHN just published its season preview of UConn, our MSG foe this year. This is a program on the rise, and anyone who thinks it will be a cakewalk for us is mistaken. When I've mentioned that we are playing UConn to a few more casual Cornell fans, they don't seem to realize this. It's also interesting to note that UConn, like many other programs, is relying heavily on transfers, including one fromby dbilmes - Hockey

The men's soccer team opened Ivy play with a 3-2 win over Harvard. The game was 1-1 at halftime. Cornell opened up a 3-1 lead late in the second half, but Harvard cut it to 3-2 with about 9 minutes to play to make it an exciting finish. The game got quite chippy in the final 20 minutes, and several Cornell players had to leave the game with injuries. Morales scored the game-winner on a long shotby dbilmes - Other Sports

The men's soccer team stayed unbeaten on the road with a 1-0 victory at Marist Saturday night. I only watched the last 20 minutes, but it was a physical game, with numerous yellow cards issued and there was a near-tussle between the teams after some hard fouls, leading to one of Marist's top players getting his second yellow card, leaving Marist a man short for the final few minutes. Ken711 CAS Cornell is now 15-42 in the Ivies with Dave Archer as head coach, & losers of 7 of their last 8 in the league. There is absolutely no way to justify bringing back Archer for another year.,,,none. The first order of business for the new AD has to be finding a new coaching staff. But Cornell is consistently doing better than the preseason predictions. Just last year, for example,by dbilmes - Other Sports

Cornell hockey tickets are getting pricier each year. If you want to watch us play the Pecknolds at the only ECAC rink with skating cheerleaders, you can buy a ticket today for $28. If you go to the Q-Colgate game the previous night, it will only cost you $22.by dbilmes - Hockey

scoop85 Cornell demolished Canisius 8-0 tonight. The game was every bit as lopsided as that sounds, with shots 33-2, and SOG 18-1. Canisius somehow has a win over Stonehill and ties against Dartmouth, St. Bonaventure, and Binghamton. They have a 1st year coach who clearly has a lot of work to do. The Big Red did a nice job staying structured and playing its game notwithstanding how quickly the gaby dbilmes - Other Sports

Lost in all of the excitement over the football team's season-opening win, the men's soccer team stayed undefeated on the road with a 2-1 win at Niagara Saturday. In what is the norm for his post-game comments, Smith said: "I thought we played some excellent soccer at times today. On another day, we could have scored five goals with the chances we created." Vermont continued to show that it's the best team in the Ivies by defeating Cornell Tuesday night, 2-1. This is what Cornell coach John Smith had to say: "I thought it was a great game. I knew coming into this game that Vermont is a postseason team. I'll be shocked if they don't make the postseason. I'll be shocked if they don't win their conference. I thought we were the better team tonightby dbilmes - Other Sports

The men's soccer team continued its impressive start, albeit against a winless St. Joseph's team, with a 2--0 victory, scoring two second-half goals 21 seconds apart and dominating play. St. Joe's didn't get a single shot on goal. Cornell finally has a home game Tuesday night against Vermont. This game will be good test for us, as Vermont is 3-1-1, and is coming off back-to-back impressive wins aby dbilmes - Other Sports
