Re: 2023 ECAC Post Season - 1 year ago
If you subscribe to Hulu, you can watch any games that are on ESPN Plus on that. I've been watching Cornell games there, since it's easier to find them.by dbilmes - Hockey

billhoward CU2007 This guy has now called Schafer a great goaltender twice The Yale game was a sellout just like all of the Quinnipiac games I've been to over the past 10 years have been listed as sellouts despite wide swaths of empty seats. Including the hockey team and pep band, there were probably about 50 Yale students at the game. Maybe a lot of the season ticket holders decided not to showby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Women 2022-23 - 1 year ago
The five conference tournament champions receive automatic bids, and six teams receive at-large bids. That doesn't look good for Cornell. "Seeds 6-11 will play a first-round matchup, or regional semifinal, on either Thursday, March 9, or Friday, March 10. The winners will advance to face the first, second and third overall seeds in the second round (regional final) on either Saturday, Marchby dbilmes - Hockey

The women are 12th in the Pairwise (better than the men!). Hopefully, they will get an NCAA bid when they are announced next weekend.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Yale (2/25/23) - 1 year ago
Yale coach Allain started his third-string goalie, Hopkins, last night because he's a senior and it was his last regular season game. His goals against average and save percentage is much worse than either of the goalies ahead of him. Not that it would have necessarily made a difference, but it certainly didn't hurt our chances.by dbilmes - Hockey

arugula Great moment of schadenfreude last night. When I arrived at the Whale, two Sucks womens players were outside crying with their parents. They had just been eliminated by Yale in the ecac playoffs. I was briefly sad to see a youngster cry but then thought again and heard Nelson Muntz. Very mature. They shouldn't have been surprised to have lost to Yale, since the teams finished the reguby dbilmes - Hockey

I may have missed this on a previous thread, but does anyone know when Seger was hurt and if he's going to be able to play again this season? I noticed he was scratched for both games this weekend. He's one of our top scorers and faceoff men, so it would be nice to have him back for the playoffs. It's a tribute to the depth of this year's roster that we've been able to score a decent amount of goby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: #13 Cornell at Brown, Feb 24 - 1 year ago
No one has started a thread yet for tonight's game at Yale, and I'm reluctant to do so, so I'll post this note here. Yale is playing much better than it was at the beginning of the season, when it was averaging about 1 goal per game. It's won four of its last seven games, including two in a row, scoring 4 goals in each of its last 2 games. It also did something we couldn't do -- avoid losing to Cby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2023 - 1 year ago
billhoward Cornell sports PR is not over-staffed. Mistakes are understandable. Still doesn't excuse the glitches. If these people are journalists at heart, now or once upon a time, it must be soul-crushing to have to put a spin on, say, the league's second- or third-best team losing two fricking games at home. As for-instance. It's even tougher for the sports information person who is responsby dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Bracketology 2023 - 1 year ago
adamw That's a 3 seed and wholly dependent on QU being 2 and Cornell being 10. Anything else, and all bets are off. Long way to go. As you know, a lot of people who post on this forum like to post speculation like this even though it's meaningless this far ahead of time. For example, if Cornell loses one of its four remaining regular season games, which is completely plausible, and doesn't win aby dbilmes - Hockey

marty dbilmes As the 5-minute OT came to an end, one of the announcers said he wished they would just keep playing 3-on-3 overtime instead of going to a shootout. He noted that with all of the open ice in 3-on-3, it wouldn't take that much time for one of the teams to score a goal. It sounded like neither one of the broadcasters was a fan of deciding the tournament title in a shootout. Is theby dbilmes - Hockey

Re: Cornell @ Colgate 2.11.23 - 1 year ago
It would have been nice if at least one of our shots on the power play in OT hit the net. Malinski had three good looks in a row and missed the net on all three. At least if it's on net we might get lucky or we might get a rebound.by dbilmes - Hockey

billhoward Today Cornell women versus #1 Yale. Good luck, Cornell. Big Red is now 16-7-1 overall. Not sure where you got Cornell's record, but the Big Red were 13-11-2 going into Saturday's game against No. 1 Yale. Cornell is now 13-12-2 after losing to Yale, 3-2, in overtime.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others, 2022-23 - 1 year ago
The announcers talked about how in previous years, Beanpot games would be played out in sudden death overtime for as long as it took for someone to score, but the new NCAA rules mandate that regular season games can only have a 5-minute overtime.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others, 2022-23 - 1 year ago
Harvard outshot 22-2 in 3rd period, and went over 16 minutes without a shot, as BC scores twice in final three minutes to tie game and send it to OT. Then Harvard scores with 1.5 seconds left to pull it out.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others, 2022-23 - 1 year ago
JasonN95 dbilmes Watching the Beanpot, they just showed a graphic of the coaches of the 4 teams. Donato is coaching in his 18th Beanpot. He's won the title once! Was there a goal waved off early in the 1st? I don’t get NESN but have the NCAA live play-by-play up and there’s an entry for a goal, but the score stayed 0-0 (until just now as Harvard has apparently scored at the 8:35 mark). Re: Wrestling 2022-23 - 1 year ago
The wrestling team's success often seems like it's taken for granted, but it's an incredible feat to have such a dominant program at an Ivy school (unless you're talking about an elitist sport like squash or fencing). Cornell has won 19 of the last 20 Ivy titles and is consistently ranked in the national polls, not to mention some of the amazing individual wrestlers who have competed for Cornell.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Union @ Cornell - 1 year ago
dag14 I am pretty sure there was a 9-0 first period v. Yale I think, under Bertrand in the Brock Tredway era. I remember because he pulled the goalie with a faceoff in the defensive zone, claiming he wanted the players to practice that play. I can verify this. I was at that game.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Women 2022-23 - 1 year ago
The women's team is in a late-season tailspin, with four straight losses and five defeats in the last six games. Cornell lost to Harvard, 7-6, last weekend and then got blown out, 5-1, by last-place Dartmouth, with both games at Lynah. This weekend, in North Country, Cornell lost a showdown for fourth place to Clarkson, 2-1, and then blew a 2-0 third-period lead to St. Lawrence and lost 3-2 in ovby dbilmes - Hockey

Trotsky Was Berniers a Cornell decommit or am I hallucinating? Edit: oh, wait, maybe he was a Harvard decommit. He was a Harvard signee originally, but switched to Michigan once it became uncertain that the Ivies would have a hockey season in 2020-21.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Love Means Not Having to Say "You Just Suck": Cornell at Harvard - 1 year ago
Since I was at the game in person, I never got an explanation for the first review, which came after an icing in the first period which never should have been called an icing. First, we thought the icing was being reviewed, but then we realized that's probably not a reviewable play. We then decided it must have been our shot off the crossbar a few minutes earlier which was under review to see ifby dbilmes - Hockey

These are the first quotes I've seen from Pecknold following last weekend's Q losses. In the New Haven Register, he said: “First of all, Cornell and Colgate both played very well,” Pecknold said, and he said the feel in the rinks was a “Super Bowl" atmosphere. “I just felt we weren’t prepared for that kind of playoff atmosphere. That’s on me; I thought we were, but we weren’t,” Pecknoldby dbilmes - Hockey
