Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell @ Boston University, Jan. 14, 2023 - GAME TIME IS 4PM - 1 year ago
arugula God I love the BU announcers. They talk in a lot more technical terms about the systems the teams are using than most other announcers we hear.by dbilmes - Hockey

Trotsky Harvard 4 Clarkson 1, final. Clarkson down to 9-9-3; 3-6-0 (3+2+0). That's pretty unhealthy for a consensus top 4. Harvard just dominated the final two periods of this game. It's also undefeated at home, something Cornell can hopefully do something about in a few weeks. As for Clarkson, the announcers kept pointing out that since starting the season 2-6, Clarkson had only lost twice sby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Sprint Football - 1 year ago
I'm sure there are a lot of sprint football alums who would be quite upset if the sport was dropped. It's hard to see the new AD coming in and starting a controversy right away by cutting a sport.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Women 2022-23 - 1 year ago
A costly win for the women tonight, 4-1 over Princeton. The starting goalie, Deanna Frasier, had to leave the game after a goalmouth collision. And then one of our best players, Lily Delianedis, had to leave the game after injuring her shoulder/right arm. Neither returned, and we may be missing both of them for Saturday's game against first-place Q. As for the game itself, Princeton scored 19 secby dbilmes - Hockey

Trotsky Troyfan Iceberg Trotsky Iceberg Yale also leading at Merrimack 3-1 well into the 3rd. That would be a huge upset to the benefit of the rest of the ECACMerrimack 2 third period goals, now 3-3. And that's how it ends...without a shootout. Meanwhile, Harvard comes back from 3-0 down and wins late in overtime 4-3 We did the exact same thing to Harvard in the Lance Nethery era. upprdeck I think one issue being over looked is that we have been having a new guy injured like every week it seemed. And swapping guys in and out of things like the PP are never good.. If the lineup of the core guys stays steady for awhile it probably helps That's a good point. Even though he's not having a great season, I'd rather see Stienburg getting regular ice time, for example, than someby dbilmes - Hockey

Some interesting stats courtesy of Cornell: 1) First time we scored six-plus goals in consecutive games in 5 years 2) First time we had consecutive 11-goal weekends in 31 years 3) Berard is first player with four consecutive multi-point games since Barron did it to open 2019-20 season 4) On the negative side, first time we gave up four power-play goals since we gave up five to Harvard in 2006by dbilmes - Hockey

There's nothing too scintillating on it, but Ken Schott's podcast has all of the post-game quotes from both Cornell and Union.by dbilmes - Hockey

The Rancor Dunc Honestly a game in Schoellkopf might be the perfect spectacle to reignite the fire in the student body for cornell hockey With the right opponent in front 20,000 fans, I'd hope so! If we can't draw 20,000 fans at MSG, we're not going to draw 20,000 fans at Schoellkopf.by dbilmes - Hockey

Re: Women 2022-23 - 1 year ago
A shorthanded Cornell team lost a tough game to No. 1 ranked Ohio State Saturday, 4-3. Due to injuries, Cornell only played four defensemen, and one of our best players, Lily Delianedis, was serving a one-game suspension for an illegal hit in Cornell's last game. Two of our best defensemen, Rory Guilday and Ashley Messier, were out with injuries and it sounds like they won't be back any time soonby dbilmes - Hockey

The first time I clicked on this article, I was able to read it all the way through, but now it has a paywall. That's too bad because it gives the background on how Earl decided to transition to Cornell's current style of play. To summarize, the decision was made during the winter when Ivy basketball was cancelled and Cornell was limited to only practices. As the team was racing up and down the cby dbilmes - Other Sports

For what it's worth, the ECAC not doing well in KRATCH rankings. Q is ranked No. 2, while Harvard is 19 and Cornell 22. Dartmouth and Yale are two worst teams in the country.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others, 2022-23 - 1 year ago
Iceberg Dartmouth lost to Lowell on Friday night and they're currently down 3-0 at UVM. They haven't won a single OOC game this season and still have at least one more. Geez Dartmouth has only won one game all season, so it's not a surprise that it's lost all of its OOC games.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others, 2022-23 - 1 year ago
Terrible weekend for Clarkson, which has to be biggest disappointment in ECAC so far. Playing at home, it tied both Yale and Brown and lost the shootout both time. Yale has scored 8 goals all season, while Q scored 16 goals this weekend, basically scoring as many goals in each of its games as Yale has scored all season.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Women's Basketball 22-23 - 1 year ago
In Dayna Smith's 18 years, Cornell has finished in the top four in the Ivies five times. After watching some of Cornell's games this season, and then watching Princeton, which hasn't lost an Ivy game in 3 seasons, nearly upset UConn on the road last night, there is no comparison of our program and Princeton's. Talent-wise, we're not anywhere near the same level. Princeton hired former UConn playeby dbilmes - Other Sports
Women's Basketball 22-23 - 1 year ago
The women's basketball team won't receive too much play on eLynah this winter, especially since it's picked to finish 6th in the Ivies. But the team does deserve a shoutout for beating a winless Hartford team by 51 points (89-38) Monday night. After starting the season 1-3, Cornell has won 5 out of 6, losing only to Rutgers of the Big Ten. Hartford, meanwhile, is making the transition from Divisby dbilmes - Other Sports

Down by 8 late in second half. May need another big closing run to pull this one out. If we do, it would match our longest win streak since the season we went to Sweet 16 (2009-10).by dbilmes - Other Sports

Re: Women 2022-23 - 1 year ago
Quite a weekend for the Cornell women. Friday, as mentioned in previous post, Cornell overcame a 4-1 deficit (4-2 heading into the 3rd period) to tie an unbeaten Yale team which had only given up 8 goals in its first 8 games. On Saturday afternoon, with a quick turnaround, it was a classic letdown game, and Cornell trailed Brown 2-0 in the second period before Izzy Daniel scored late in the perioby dbilmes - Hockey

Re: UConn @ Cornell (MSG), 11/26/2022 - 1 year ago
A couple of leftover items from MSG game: 1) Does anyone know what the official attendance was? I'm guessing there were 10-11,000 people in the building. As expected, not many UConn fans. 2) I was disappointed no hats were thrown onto the ice when Bancfroft registered his hat trick. I wanted to throw mine, but since I was 18 rows from the ice I would have had trouble throwing it that distancby dbilmes - Hockey

UConn up to No. 3 in Pairwise. We will definitely need to play better than we did against Q if we want to upset UConn at MSG.by dbilmes - Hockey

Re: Brown @ Cornell, 11/19/2022 - 1 year ago
Based on the early going, it doesn't look like we have a bonafide No. 1 line. As was noted on telecast, we've had balanced scoring throughout the roster. While ideally you want to have some big scorers to carry the offense, having a more balanced scoring attack has its advantages as well.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Men's Soccer 2022 - 1 year ago
Cornell did well with the Ivy post-season honors, placing three players on the first team, one on the second team and our freshman goalie Friedberg was named Ivy Rookie of the Year. Emeka Eneli was one of three players to be a unanimous first-team pick. Nice to see the players rewarded for their success. Wilson Eisner, a first-team selection last year, missed all but a few minutes of this seasonby dbilmes - Other Sports
