Re: Cornell vs Harvard @ Bright on sale October 4, 2006 @ 10AM EST - 17 years ago
Has anyone had any luck on the web site in the last few minutes? I keep calling 1-877-GO-HARVARD and getting a busy signal. That is the correct number to call?by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Poor Yalies - 17 years ago
WillAny idea on what Meckler's grades were like? Maybe an Ivy League education just wasn't for him. The article didn't mention anything about academics being a factor. It was all about how he felt he had a better chance of making it to the NHL if he went the Junior route instead of the ECAC route. Besides, no one flunks out at Yale!by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Poor Yalies - 17 years ago
David HardingPresumably the Kings whispered in his ear a suggestion about what route would bring him up most quickly. According to the article, Allain checked with the Kings and was assured by them that they hadn't pressured Meckler to leave school early. Allain blamed the decision on "misguided advice" from Meckler's family.by dbilmes - Hockey
Poor Yalies - 17 years ago
Yale's top returning center, David Meckler, has left school after just one season to play junior hockey in Canada. I couldn't find a link for the story, but in the Aug. 22 New Haven Register, Yale's new coach, Keith Allain, ripped him, saying, "he's making a terrible mistake. I can't find any reason why a young player would leave Yale to go play major juniors . . . it doesn't make a lot of sby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: [Slightly OT] Chance for Cornell to get More Press - 17 years ago
Rich SBut they must have been hard on the knee joints. I'd think you guys would have orthopedic problems. That's true. I've had arthroscopic surgery on both of my knees. Of course playing tennis 7 days a week when I was younger might have had something to do with that as well!by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: CU-UW pre-game - 18 years ago
trainbowEven the Colorado press is rather silent about Cornell. From what I gather from the Denver and Colorado Springs online press, CC lost the game by not living up to their potential and getting very fatigued as the game progressed. The only notable exception to the silence was a quote (on USCHO I believe) from the CC coach saying that Wisconsin may have trouble breaking out of their zone bby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: CC players with the FLU? - 18 years ago
After reading the story, it doesn't sound like it will make a big difference in the game if just this one guy is out sick with the flu. His replacement will probably be a defenseman they will put on the fourth line, which won't get much ice time anyway. I'm sure they're keeping him quarantined away from the rest of the team!by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Connecticut viewing - 18 years ago
I just got off the phone with Tim, one of the managers at Rookie Sports Bar and Grill in Cromwell. As I was on the phone with him, he had two NCAA games on live : BC-Miami and Holy Cross-Minnesota game. He couldn't give me 100 percent assurance that he'd be able to get the Cornell game on Saturday, but he seemed to think that if he's getting these two games live tonight, one on ESPNU and one on Fby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Connecticut viewing - 18 years ago
I've been in touch with Coaches, and they only have cable, not Direct TV, so that won't be an option. The manager of Rookie Sports Bar & Grille in Cromwell told me they have Direct TV, but they're not sure if they'll get the game. He's told me that if I call him back Friday night they'll be able to see the weekend schedule and give me a definite answer. So I will call him again on Friday andby dbilmes - Hockey

We will be in Hartford Saturday night and are hoping to find a place to watch the game on TV. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Interesting thoughts from Adam Wodon (USCHO Chat) - 18 years ago
cmoberg The goalies were darn good back then too. Chris You must not have been watching the same goalies I was during the mid-to-late '70s! I remember goalies like Vandermark and Napier, for whom no lead was safe. The games were much more entertaining since they were higher scoring, but the shaky defense and goaltending always caught up with us in the ECAC playoffs (i.e. the memorable 10by dbilmes - Hockey

Based upon ESPN's "expert," we have no shot at winning this game. Perhaps the team shouldn't even make the trip out there.by dbilmes - Hockey

Ted Donato nothing beats the dejected look on thousands of Cornell fans leaving the Pepsi Arena after being spanked by Harvard.! At least we had thousands of fans at the game!by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Harvard ECAC title post-game thread - 18 years ago
I agree with all of the comments on this post so far. However, the key play in this game was the power-play goal Harvard scored in the final minute of the second period. We had momentum on our side, having scored two goals to cut Harvard's lead to 3-2. You had the feeling that if we came out for the third period only down by one goal, after such a dreadful start, that we had a good shot at pullinby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Albany roll call!! - 18 years ago
RazzBaronZI'll be there with at least 3. Anyone have advice on getting hotels or something cheap for a night? I'm driving to NYC after the finals on Saturday. I second the suggestion to stay at the Holiday Inn Express on Western Avenue. We stayed there a few weeks ago when Cornell was finishing the regular season in the Capital District, and while it will cost you around $100 a night, incluby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Union Post Game Thread - 18 years ago
After a long drive back from Schenectady in the snow, a few more post-game observations: -- McKee was solid in both games over the weekend. On Union's SH breakaway goal, the kid made a hell of a shot, especially considering he had only scored one goal all season! Perhaps McKee should have saved it, but he came up big time after time the rest of the game. -- Pegararo was outstanding, and lby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ RPI postgame - 18 years ago
All losses are frustrating, some more than others. This was one was frustrating for many reasons, including the fact that we dominated play the last two periods, especially the third period, and had nothing to show for it, and had to hear that damn foghorn go off three times. And this was the same RPI team which gave up 4 goals in back-to-back games last weekend, including three in the third periby dbilmes - Hockey

redhair34 The fact is Sasha wasn't on his game last night. He dogged it all night long. When he's on he should be on that top pp unit, but the fact is, he wasn't on last night. They interviewed Sasha between periods last night and when he was asked if he was 100 percent, he refused to give out any information. That leads me to believe his injury is still bothering him and perhaps that's why Sby dbilmes - Hockey

Back in the 70s, we used to regularly have figure skating performances between periods, although we didn't get to see any future Olympians!by dbilmes - Hockey

Re: Cornell at Princeton postgame thread 1/14/06 - 18 years ago
Good question Beeeej. It's one I've asked myself everytime McKee's faced a breakaway. I don't think I've ever seen McKee make a breakaway save--not once. I've also never seen him come out of the net at all to stop a breakaway. He's a great goalie, but he seems to me to be pretty awful at breakaways. I didn't see last night's game, but in defense of McKee he saved at least two breakaways (by dbilmes - Hockey
Cornell-Quinnipiac postgame - 18 years ago
Ijust got back from the game. It was the 6th game I've seen this year and by far the best overall performance. I saw McKee play in Florida and he played well there, but tonight was the first time I've seen him as sharp as he was last year. It's a good thing, too, because we had some sloppy giveaways in the first period that he made good saves on. Offensively, most of our goals were highlight-filmby dbilmes - Hockey

Enjoying some of the comments... congratulations on finding our hockey rink! I'm sure that was a big step in your life. You should also try finding one of our several fitness centers so you can get yourself up a hill!! at least it's not in the south...by dbilmes - Hockey
