Re: Yale/Brown roll call - 15 years ago
redhair34Jacob '06Where do people like to eat before the Yale game? I like to go to Modern Apizza . The pizza's great and you shouldn't have too much trouble getting in as long as you're there on the early side. I've never had enough time or patience to try Sally's or Pepe's. I agree. Modern's is the best, and it's only a few minutes from the rink.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Princeton Post-game - 15 years ago
lynah80 I can't remember a previous Cornell game when two goals were scored in the last minute by an opponent. I do remember the same thing happening during a home game against Brown my freshman year, back in 1974. Only in that case, I believe that only enabled Brown to tie the game and we lost it in OT. I recall seeing our goalie drinking beer out of his shoe in the Chapter House later that nighby dbilmes - Hockey

Re: North country online video - 15 years ago
sah67 As usual, you'll have to wait until a minute or two before (or sometimes after) game time for the link to become active and allow you to purchase a single game subscription. How much does it usually cost?by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Hockey no more popular now than last year - 15 years ago
RatushnyFanThe real question is student apathy - "None" increased from 26% to 31%. Holy $hit! I guess we just have to accept the fact that Cornell is not a jock school!by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: 2010 Frozen Four tickets - 15 years ago
BeeeejYou can always apply for fewer tickets for 2010; I only apply for two tickets every year anyway. I'm just worried about being stuck with anywhere from $250 to $400 worth of tickets that I can't use and can't sell.by dbilmes - Hockey
2010 Frozen Four tickets - 15 years ago
I recently received my notification from the NCAA that applications for next year's Frozen Four in Detroit are going to be accepted started Feb. 1. Since the games will be played outdoors at Ford Field, the NCAA anticipates that everyone who applies will get a ticket: "Please note that due to the number of seats available for the event, all ticket applications submitted through the online tby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Hockey no more popular now than last year - 15 years ago
It's too bad that lacrosse doesn't get more student support. Back in the glory days of the '70s, it would have been right up there with hockey.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: USCHO schedule wrong - 15 years ago
We originally scheduled to Brown first and then Yale, but the schedule was flip-flopped due to TV scheduling (not involving Cornell).by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Niagara Game 1 Post Game - 15 years ago
Jim Hyla Guess who has the best +/- for CU. Seminoff and our own B. Nash with +9. They are followed closely by Mugford and R. Nash with +7. Wonder why they get PK? Yes I know +/- doesn't pertain to PK and I'm mixing stats, but since coach sees fit to put him in PK and he doesn't seem to hurt us in +/-, I think we could say he's a big help to the team. I never put too much stock into plus-minuby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell Hockey To Hold Jersey Auction - 15 years ago
Al DeFlorio Yes, and with all due respect to Brock Tredway, this link also calls into question whose name should be on the back of #7. Holding the school records for goals per game, goals per season, and penalty minutes per game, as well as #5 on assists per game and #2 on PPG, as well as a national championship, I just don't think players should be penalized because as freshmen they couldn't plaby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Polls 1/5/09 (Cornell #6/8) - 15 years ago
TrotskyPolls were invented by newspapers to generate interest, sell copies, and make money. They've never been anything more than that. Based upon how newspapers are going belly up financially, it appears the polls aren't doing their job!by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: UMass postgame - 15 years ago
sah67Despite another solid performance from Scrivens, Q's Nick Pisellini moves just ahead of him to lead the nation in both GAA and SV%: Nick Pisellini: .948 SV%, 1.3817 GAA Ben Scrivens: .947 SV%, 1.3830 GAA Given these statistics, it's not a surprise that the first game between these two teams was a scoreless tie!by dbilmes - Hockey
UMass postgame - 15 years ago
I'm surprised no one has started this yet, so I may as well since I just got home from the game. This was a solid effort, despite a few shaky defensive giveaways in the first period and a second period which saw us dominated by UMass. Scrivens would like to have that second goal back, but if you're going to give up a soft goal, there are worst times to do so than when you're up by three goals inby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Colgate postgame - 15 years ago
There's not much I can add to the previous posts about the Florida tournament, except to say this year's team seems to have a knack, so far, for doing what it takes to get a win (or at least a tie). While it would be nice to be 3-0 against Colgate, in both of our ties against them we had to rally from two-goal deficits. We also fell behind against St. Cloud State and came back to win that game.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Historic win over Hahvahd - 15 years ago
Hillel HoffmannThe rise of the squash program is one of the best emergent sports stories at Cornell -- potentially on a par with the ascent of basketball for rags-to-riches warm-n-fuzziness. Too bad no one really cares about squash!by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Florida Roll Call - 15 years ago
billhoward When Ohio State or Notre Dame was in the tournament, the place rocked. I think "rocked" is a relative term, especially after watching a few games at Lynah earlier this month! In any case, since I believe Everblades season ticket holders are required to buy tickets for these games, the base of fans should still be comparable to previous years. Maine always has a decent contiby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell football ambivalence - 15 years ago
If Cornell had a winning tradition of football, fans might get more worked up about it. But except for a few brief stretches here and there (i.e.the early '50s, the Marinaro Era, etc.) our football program has been mired in mediocrity. That's why fans get more passionate about hockey, and to a lesser degree, lacrosse. It's also the same reason why no one really got too worked up over the mediocreby dbilmes - Other Sports

Re: Cornell 0 @ Quinnipiac 0 (postgame thread) - 15 years ago
HeafDogAnd I was also impressed by the Q student section, who showed up wearing mostly the same color, were very vocal, and had a good variety of cheers. I was impressed that the Q students (who got in for free, by the way), were wearing mostly the same color, but sitting in Section 114, I was never aware of any of their cheers. If they were doing them, you couldn't hear them halfway down the rinkby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: 2009 Frozen Four in DC - 15 years ago
I feel badly for Rita, who is such a great fan. But I got the letter today telling me the good news that Elie and I have our tickets for the Frozen Four. Now Cornell has to make sure it gets there!by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell to play two @ North Dakota - 16 years ago
I guess we won't be playing BU at MSG again this year on Thanksgiving weekend. That's an easier road trip than going to North Dakota. If you do go, dress warmly. I recently was chatting with someone who spent two years in North Dakota and he told me the best advice he got when he moved out there was the only way he would survive the winter would be to get a dog and/or a girlfriend. Re: Women's Basketball - 16 years ago
Believe it or not, we gave UConn one of its toughest 16 seed vs. 1 seed first-round game. It's average margin of victory in such games has been 58 points, and in its last seven games as the No. 1 seed, its smallest margin of victory had been 47 points. The Huskies won several of those games by over 70 points. So if you look at it from that standpoint, we did pretty well! As for Rich H's remarkby dbilmes - Other Sports

Jeff Hopkins '82There was a really nice moment tonight. As the team left the ice after the stick salute, Sawada, Krantz, and Scott stopped and wrapped their arms around each other (Topher in the middle, of course). They paused for a few seconds with their heads bowed taking in the moment, then headed down the tunnel for the last time. Nice. That was a nice moment. Topher's mother was sby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell women get UConn - 16 years ago
Willy '06I went to the Arena at Harbor Yard website and easily purchased 2 tickets to the game. I'm surprised, since it is right in the heart of UCONN territory. UConn has played at Harbor Yard before in the NCAAs, and it usually doesn't sell out. For one thing, the UConn games usually start around 9:30 on worknights, discouraging many fans from going. And the first-round game is always a blowby dbilmes - Other Sports

Last I heard there may be, it just might not be comprised of current undergraduates. why wont the band be there? transportation issue or what? Re: [W.Hoops] 64-47 Cornell, final. - 16 years ago
RitaHere's hoping Cornell gets a trip to lovely West Lafayette, IN. The bracket projection I saw on ESPN had Cornell as a #15 seed playing Rutgers in Des Moines Iowa. Quit being greedy! It's bad enough the men are playing in Anaheim. Let's at least have the women's team sent to Bridgeport, where they can be a No. 16 seed and play UConn in the first round.
