I wonder if this was the first time Cornell has won a game in the state of Alabama in any sport?by dbilmes - Other Sports

jdonofrio last win against sec team was against Arkansas in 1972 Not only that, but when was the last time we beat an SEC team on the road? Was that Arkansas win home or away?by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Visiting Yale/Brown - Pepe's New Haven - 14 years ago
billhoward Is beer and wine good enough? Because the pizza is awesome at Pepe's, 157 Wooster St. You'll see two dozen Cornellians there. If you go, arrive early, by 5 p.m., to make sure you get to the game on time. Arrive at 4:30, zero wait. Arrive at 5:30, it could be a half hour. The rink is a drive not a walk of about 5-7 minutes. The pizza at Modern is even better, and there will be a dby dbilmes - Hockey

The only good news about this is that it's less likely to snow that weekend in Atlantic City than in Albany.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell Football on TV - 14 years ago
The power is still out, at least for the Versus feed. They keep having commercials every two minutes, but haven't given any updates on whether the second half has actually started. It's a terrible job by Versus. They haven't said whether it's a power outage for the whole stadium, or just for their feed. Update -- They finally just mentioned now that a transformer blew just before halftime, whby dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Final Four Tickets - 14 years ago
According to the NY Times blog, about 42,000 tickets have been sold, but with good weather forecast, they expect a good walk-up sale on Saturday.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Lax Quarterfinals vs. Princeton - 14 years ago
A great defensive effort for the Big Red. We also had two key plays go our way. The first was when Princeton shot a split second too late at the end of the third quarter. If that goal had counted, our lead would have been down to 5-4 going into the final period and the momentum would have been even more on Princeton's side than it was. The other key play, when it was still a 5-3 game, came on a pby dbilmes - Other Sports

Good PR for Cornell lacrosse recruit - 14 years ago
From a story in The News-Times of Danbury, CT: "Future Cornell star Max Van Bourgondien tallied three goals and an assist for Lawrenceville and Bryan Hooper netted three goals." Of course it's only fitting that his high school team's nickname is the Big Red!by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Cornell-Bemidji NCAA regionals postgame - 15 years ago
This was as frustrating and disappointing loss as we've had in many years. It looked like the stage was set for us to get to the title game by defeating two No. 4 seeds. If we had gone into the third period with the lead, I felt we would have won. But Bemidji simply outplayed us in the third period. Even so, it was better to lose this way than to lose the way UNH did, where their own player knocby dbilmes - Hockey

Re: Cornell 3 Northeastern 2 (Postgame thread) - 15 years ago
Here is the ranting of a BU fan in today's Boston Globe, commenting on the Northeastern-Cornell game story: "I am a BU fan, but NU DID NOT lay an egg. The tough thing is Cornell is NOT a team anybody halfway decent should ever relinquish a two goal lead to, the way that Cornell plays, yet they scored two legit goals, although I woulda been upset with my defenseman taking that penalty withby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: [LAX] Penn 10 at Cornell 21 FINAL - 15 years ago
I watched the Yale-Princeton game on Saturday. The score was tied 7-7 after three quarters, before Princeton pulled away for an 11-7 victory. The Princeton goalie is good and they have some excellent attackmen, but if we're healthy and play well, we can definitely beat them. As for Yale, it's the second straight week they were tied against a top team, but couldn't keep up in the second half. I geby dbilmes - Other Sports
New Haven viewing location - 15 years ago
New Haven, CT If anyone in southern CT wants to watch the game with me, the Black Bear Saloon in downtown New Haven gets ESPNU and would make a TV available. Let me know if you're interested.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Northeastern - 15 years ago
Their goalie is the Hockey East Player of the Year. And a few years ago, when they played in the Florida tournament, their team was one of the worst in the country.by dbilmes - Hockey

Jim HylaI got senior rate $118 per night. They have reg rate $139. Hopefully I'll get to use it. You're not old enough for the senior rate yet, are you? Not the way you toss that candy around!by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Bracket Predictions - 15 years ago
Germ I was irked that when they introduced the Midwest region they didn't even announce Cornell. They stopped at NE. Other than Barry saying we could upset BU we didn't get too much airtime. I guess when you're a three seed you're not the flavor of the day. But to be fair, when they were talking about Yale's chances, one of the announcers pointed out how impressed he was with the fact that Yaby dbilmes - Hockey

Re: Cornell-RPI Postgame (Game 1) 3/13/09 - 15 years ago
Let's face it, RPI's best chance to beat us is to hook us and hold us and mug us. If the refs let them get away with it, as was apparently the case in Game 1, they have a good shot to beat us. Schafer's tirade and subsequent suspension are worth it if the game gets called tighter tonight.by dbilmes - Hockey

Re: Yale/Brown roll call - 15 years ago
redhair34Jacob '06Where do people like to eat before the Yale game? I like to go to Modern Apizza . The pizza's great and you shouldn't have too much trouble getting in as long as you're there on the early side. I've never had enough time or patience to try Sally's or Pepe's. I agree. Modern's is the best, and it's only a few minutes from the rink.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Princeton Post-game - 15 years ago
lynah80 I can't remember a previous Cornell game when two goals were scored in the last minute by an opponent. I do remember the same thing happening during a home game against Brown my freshman year, back in 1974. Only in that case, I believe that only enabled Brown to tie the game and we lost it in OT. I recall seeing our goalie drinking beer out of his shoe in the Chapter House later that nighby dbilmes - Hockey
