Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: general 2010-2011 basketball season thread - 13 years ago
Here's something I never thought I would hear. I was just watching the UConn-Notre Dame men's basketball game, and the announcer said that Notre Dame reminded him of last year's Cornell team with the way they moved the ball around and had the confidence that comes with having a bunch of seniors on the court. Who would have thought that a Big East team would be compared in a favorable light to theby dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Cornell 3 St Cloud 4 OT 2010 Florida Classic - 13 years ago
Just out of curiosity, since we've now lost three OT games this season, does anyone know what the team record is for most OT losses in a season? We might be able to set at least one record this season!by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Polls - 13 years ago
Yale may be No. 1, but their fans still suck. They didn't even sell out their game Sunday afternoon against Union.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Florida Hockey Classic (Estero) what to do 2009 - 13 years ago
We've stayed at a Wynstar near the airport on Daniels Blvd right off I-75. It features decent rates, free breakfast, free internet, and if you hang out by the pool during the day there are usually members of a women's swim team from up north getting some pool time in before their meet at the nearby college.by dbilmes - Hockey

That's what you call traveling on a budget!by dbilmes - Hockey
Off topic: Nanaimo, BC - 13 years ago
Cornell has had a lot of players on its roster during the past decade who played junior hockey for the Nanaimo Clippers. Tonight, while watching Jeopardy, I had to chuckle when one of the contestants said she had done naked bungee jumping in Nanaimo. She said there is one day a year (hopefully, in the summer!), when you can bungee jump for free if you "do it in the buff." Unfortunately,by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: General 2010-11 Wrestling thread - 13 years ago
For those of you who don't get the print edition of the Times, the story on the wrestling program was on the front page of the Monday sports section, along with the stories on the Giants and the Jets! That's good PR for the Big Red any time.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Cornell women vs. Robert Morris - 13 years ago
What type of crowd was at the game? I wonder if the women's postseason run last year and No. 1 ranking this year is translating into bigger crowds at Lynah.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: CU at Harvard tickets on sale today - 13 years ago
This really sucks. I don't check eLynah for a few days and I miss out on the Sucks tickets. They're only selling individual seats online now.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Football picked eighth in media poll - 13 years ago
I can't remember Columbia being a preseason pick to finish that high. At least one Ivy football program from New York State is heading in the right direction!by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Lax: NCAA Quarterfinals - 13 years ago
As we prepare to play the Cadets, there was an interesting op-ed piece in NY Times this week by a Naval Academy professor who is critical of the emphasis on Division I sports at the military academies, and feels it's compromising the integrity of those institutions.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Lax Cornell 11 Loyola 10 (3 OT) NCAA 1st round - 13 years ago
billhoward Hey, did TV color man Jack Emmer (ex Cortland / Army coach) with the sniffles sound like Jack Nicholson winding down (sniff ... sniff) from a cocaine high? His commentary was pedestrian and added nothing to the game. I guess it's hard to find good TV announcers when ESPNU is stretched so thin covering so many lacrosse games on the same day. The guys in the studio are good. As I was waby dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Seeded 7th -- Facing Loyola - 13 years ago
phillysportsfan That is looking way ahead but would be amazing to have a chance to get some revenge against Syracuse for these past two losses. You would think the lacrosse gods have to give us a break against them once in awhile. After what has happened against Syracuse the last two times we have played them, and what happened against Princeton on Sunday, it appears the lacrosse gods areby dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Cornell 10 at Princeton 9 lax photos May 1 - 14 years ago
Great photos Bill, and thanks for the commentary. I missed watching the game on TV, so it's great to see all these shots you took. At least the sun won't be a factor for the goalies at 8 p.m. Friday!by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Cornell vs. Syracuse Lax - 14 years ago
semsox 4-4 now, Fiore just made the initial save but the rebound gets tucked home on an EMO for Syracuse. Thanks!by dbilmes - Other Sports

For those of us without access to Redcast or TV, what's the score?by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Cornell vs. Dartmouth in Foxborough - 14 years ago
Just like Dartmouth's men's hockey victory over Cornell made that team's season, this win has made the Dartmouth lacrosse team's season. Hopefully, we can pick up a big win somewhere down the line of someone like Syracuse or Princeton. I'm not optimistic, though.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Odds that Donahue stays? - 14 years ago
I just heard on WFAN in NYC that Donahue is reportedly in the running for the BC job, which has just opened up. That would be an excellent step up for him, going into the ACC.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Regionals Sunday March 28 - 14 years ago
I watched the third period of the Yale game. Yale used three goalies, none of whom played well. There was virtually no defense being played by either team. It was certainly an entertaining game to watch!by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: UNH 6 Cornell 2 postgame - 14 years ago
ChipJ Bummer - only worse experience watching us play hockey was the last time I saw us play UNH in 1977 when we went to double overtime to lose 10-9 in the old Boston Garden. I was at that game, too, and it was a terrible feeling when UNH scored the game-winner and the entire Boston Garden erupted (all of the fans of the other schools were cheering against us). But at least that game was excitinby dbilmes - Hockey
Re: UNH 6 Cornell 2 postgame - 14 years ago
After watching us lose to UNH, I can state that I was fortunate to watch in person our four worst games of the season: the two losses in Florida, the loss at Dartmouth, and the debacle in Albany. On the bright side, Nichols will be able to tell his grandchildren someday that he once scored a goal in an NCAA tournament game.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Lacrosse 9 @ Penn (4th) - 14 years ago
billhoward 9-6 is a comfortable margin in the fourth quarter, right? Not with our sometimes suspect goaltending! After last night's hockey debacle, we need a win in something!by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Odds that Donahue stays? - 14 years ago
The New York Times today says that Donahue is being vetted for the St. John's position.by dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: The Sweet Sixteen - 14 years ago
There's also great two-page photo of the Cornell-Wisconsin game in this week's Sports Illustrated, with Louis Dale outhustling a crowd of players for the ball. Meanwhile, Cornell has been getting almost as much air time on Mike Francessa's WFAN sports radio show as the Yankees and Mets. Francessa said Cornell would have a decent shot at getting to the Final Four if it didn't have to play Kentucby dbilmes - Other Sports
Re: Albany Roll Call II: Electric Boogaloo (NCAA Regionals) - 14 years ago
I'll be there, + 2 hopefully, for Saturday's game (and yes, Cornell will be playing on Saturday!). As for a pre-game get together, Jillians is a decent sports bar type place only a few blocks from the arena.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Lax vs. Stony Brook - 14 years ago
It's easy to see how this game is getting lost in the shuffle. Hopefully, the lax team can keep its momentum going from the big win over Yale.by dbilmes - Other Sports

Re: 2010 NCAA hockey regional ticket situation - 14 years ago
cquinn Ticket agent said there was no re-entry between Friday games. Can anyone confirm that? For the ECACs last weekend, signs posted said "No Re-Entry," but you were able to do so quite easily. As a matter of fact, when we re-entered, they didn't even check our tickets. However, they may not be as lax this weekend, so don't count on being able to leave and re-enter.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: 2010 NCAA hockey regional ticket situation - 14 years ago
I don't expect the Friday games to sell out, but there should be a good crowd there with three "local" teams: UNH, RIT and Cornell. As a matter of fact, the last time Cornell played UNH in the NCAAs it was at Worcester and the arena was virtually sold out. That was a smaller arena than Albany, but UNH will bring a big crowd down to Albany.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: USCHO Picks Union - 14 years ago
Klump should be praising Cornell fans for the fact that we show up and we care. Despite the reports on the USCHO game blog that the crowd in the arena was about 50-50, there were definitely more Cornell fans there despite the fact that Union is just a 30-minute ride away. Without Cornell's large and enthusiastic fan base, there would have been a lot less excitement in the tournament during the yeby dbilmes - Hockey
